It includes works on geographical studies of Canada as a whole, on multiple provinces, and on individual provinces. Works covered include books, monographs, atlases, book chapters, scholarly articles, dissertations, and theses. The contents are organized first by region into main chapters, and then each chapter is divided into sections: General Studies, Cultural and Social Geography, Economic Geography, Historical Geography, Physical Geography, Political Geography, and Urban Geography. Each section is further sub-divided into specific topics within each main subject. All known publications on the geographical studies of Canada—in English, French, and other languages—covering all types of geography are included in this bibliography. It is an essential resource for all researchers, students, teachers, and government officials needing information and references on the varied aspects of the environments and human geographies of Canada.

Book Measuring and Apportioning Rents from Hydroelectric Power Developments

Download or read book Measuring and Apportioning Rents from Hydroelectric Power Developments written by Mitchell P. Rothman and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydro resources are provided by nature. The exploitation of such resources can generate significant economic rent to the owners. In the past, governments have usually claimed ownership of hydroelectric resources and passed on the rents to their state-owned utilities, which have used them to expand their systems or provide lower tariffs to their consumers. With the restructuring of the electric power sector in many countries, a more explicit consideration of hydroelectric rents is required. Moreover, hydropower resources are often owned by more than one party, or at least require cooperation between parties to develop them. In this context, the measurement and apportionment of hydropower rents between cooperating parties becomes important. This paper addresses some of the issues involved in cooperative development of water resources, especially for hydroelectric generation. It promotes a better understanding of the sources of the benefits and attempts to derive an analytical basis for discussions between cooperating parties. This volume will be of interest to hydropower resource earning countries, hydropower developers, and Bank staff.

Book The Muskrat Falls Hydro Project

Download or read book The Muskrat Falls Hydro Project written by Gordon Lee Weil and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Labrador has significant potential for the production of hydroelectric power, ranking it among the top remaining, undeveloped resources in North America. The proposed Muskrat Falls project at Lower Churchill Falls would be the second major development of Labrador's hydro resource. Hydropower is the leading renewable, noncarbon resource in the world. While no generating resource can be developed without environmental and social impacts, the remote location of the Churchill facilities makes them especially attractive for development. At the same time, their remoteness imposes unusually heavy transmission costs to bring the power to customers -- the load. Because there is no fuel cost, the capital costs of hydro generation and transmission allow planners to have a good idea of power supply costs over the long term.

Book White Gold

Download or read book White Gold written by Karl Froschauer and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past fifty years, Canadians have seen many of their white-water rivers dammed or diverted to generate electricity primarily for industry and export. The rush to build dams increased utility debts, produced adverse consequences for the environment and local communities, and ultimately resulted in the layoff of 25,000 employees. White Gold looks at what went wrong with hydro development, with the predicted industrial transformation, with the timing and magnitude of projects, and with national and regional initiatives to link these major projects to a trans-Canada power grid.
