Book Works Councils

Download or read book Works Councils written by Joel Rogers and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2009-05-15 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the influence of labor unions declines in many industrialized nations, particularly the United States, the influence of workers has decreased. Because of the need for greater involvement of workers in changing production systems, as well as frustration with existing structures of workplace regulation, the search has begun for new ways of providing a voice for workers outside the traditional collective bargaining relationship. Works councils—institutionalized bodies for representative communication between an employer and employees in a single workplace—are rare in the Anglo-American world, but are well-established in other industrialized countries. The contributors to this volume survey the history, structure, and functions of works councils in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Poland, Canada, and the United States. Special attention is paid to the relations between works councils and unions and collective bargaining, works councils and management, and the role and interest of governments in works councils. On the basis of extensive comparative data from other Western countries, the book demonstrates powerfully that well-designed works councils may be more effective than labor unions at solving management-labor problems.

Book Ma trise des co ts en restauration collective

Download or read book Ma trise des co ts en restauration collective written by POINTET Isabelle and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-09-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Collective Dismissal in the European Union A Comparative Analysis

Download or read book Collective Dismissal in the European Union A Comparative Analysis written by Roberto Cosio and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2016-04-24 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When business imperatives require large enterprises to reorganize, involving the reduction in staff legally characterized as collective dismissal, EU directives and laws across Europe mandate specific procedures to support workers who have been made redundant and impose sanctions where regulatory or judicial scrutiny uncovers violations. It is thus essential that a clearly defined framework of the laws and jurisprudence in force in each Member State be provided for businesses and their counsel to ensure compliance and avoid sanctions. This eminently practical book, the first and only book of its kind, provides exactly such an analysis. The book is structured on a country-by-country basis, with each chapter written by an expert in the country covered and responding concisely to such questions as the following: • How is ‘collective dismissal’ calculated? • Which issues regarding collective layoffs’ procedures trigger legal intervention? • What happens when enterprises provide incomplete or delayed information to labour unions or public officials? • When can a worker be reinstated or claim compensation? Each chapter clarifies the extent to which directives have been implemented in the Member States and whether the law in force provides workers with some more favourable treatments than EU actually requires. Jurisprudence and its practical application are analysed from the perspective of the ‘law in action’ rather than that of the ‘law in the books’. A concluding chapter examines global standards and trends in this area of law. There is no other publication fully devoted to the subject of collective dismissal, extensively elaborated and supported with case law. As a source of reliable information as manifested in the actions of judges, lawyers, solicitors, firms, and labour unions, this book has no peers. It will be welcomed and put to use by lawyers and solicitors specializing in labour law, in-house counsel and human resources professionals at multinational companies, regulatory authorities, and labour unions, as well as by universities and centres of research in the field of European law and labour law. The editors - Roberto Cosio, Filippo Curcuruto, Vincenzo Di Cerbo and Giovanni Mammone - all have extensive experience in judicial and administrative practice related to EU labour law, particularly in Italy. All are well-known authors in this field.

Contributors from a wide range of European countries illustrate the validity of four propositions about employee participation: that different forms of employee participation mutually reinforce each other; that major shifts in employment relations require innovative approaches to participation; that appropriate conditions (including the provision of training and support) are required for the spread of participation; and that trade unions remain a crucial foundation for the promotion of participation.

Book Workplace Mental Health Law

Download or read book Workplace Mental Health Law written by Takenori Mishiba and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-08-12 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic and interdisciplinary study of occupational mental health legislation in seven countries. The work presents a study of the laws, policies, and legal interpretations to help prevent mental health problems from occurring in the workplace and appropriately address problems once they do occur. With a view to improving provision in Japan, the author examines the legal issues relating to workplace mental health and stress in the USA, UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, France and Germany. In presenting a comparative discussion of mental health issues in the workplace, this book seeks to establish a minimum for legal rights and duties that contribute to prevention and not just compensation. With its detailed comparative and descriptive coverage of legal and related provisions in a range of countries, the book will be a valuable resource for academics, policy-makers and practitioners working in labour and employment law, social welfare, occupational health and human resource management.
