This is the little girl that wrote poetry to escape her surroundings. This was the little girl that was told she would be just like her mother. This was the little girl that was told to keep house business in the house. This was the little girl that sat on the porch for hours waiting on her father to come. This was the little girl that got in trouble for opening the suitcase under her uncles bed. This was the little girl that retreated to her closet to get away from the abuser. This was the little girl that believed she could buy love with her body. This was the little girl that wanted to take her life because her mother loved her brother more. This was the little girl that became a woman...This woman met God in her closet space and her life has never been the same! Every little girl wants the love of a father and nobody likes to be alone. She seeks her fathers approval and he doesn't answer. Time and time again, the little girl calls out from her room and yet no one comes to her rescue. Each time she ends up rejected and abandoned. It's that place when you just want someone to hear your cry...anyone to come to your rescue. It's in the closet where you feel most secure. Sometimes people grow up and come out of the closet quickly, but other times it drags into their adult life and their relationships, perhaps right where God needs them to be. In this book, you'll see what Kimberly experienced in her closet place and why God took her through so many trials. God has plans to set you free through your own closet confessions!

Book excerpt: On Writing Daddy's GirlAfter I had been through many versions of the manuscript (written over almost a decade) I decided that for this book to have validity it would be necessary not only to show the past but also to give a picture of the present-illustrating how the events of my childhood affected me at the time, as well as later in life as an adult and a parent.Given that I wrote the book in the first place as a document that I hoped would be useful to others who'd suffered abuse and also to professionals, I felt it was very important to present detailed portraits of the child I was and the woman I grew to be (in large measure as a result of trying to cope with the long-term effects of the abuse.) As well, I thought it was vital to illustrate how fallout from the abuse can be felt down through the generations, if one fails to exercise awareness and caution. So the book weaves back and forth between past and present (the present being 1979, when the final version was completed). I also had to decide at the very start whether I was going to dole out snippets of truth or be completely truthful and address the issue as fully as I was able. There seemed no point to writing an autobiographical account of incest if I was going to be anything less than completely truthful. It was not difficult to tell the truth, nor was the writing of the book a cathartic experience, as many have imagined it to be. The fact is that I had long-since confronted my personal demons and had managed to relegate the past to the past-something exceedingly difficult for many victims of any/all forms of abuse to do.A few years ago in correcting the page proofs of a new British edition of the book, I reread DADDY'S GIRL, and was gratified by what I'd written. (Often, with my novels, I am not at all happy when I reread them.) I think that as an author I have little, if any, objectivity about my work once it's completed and so am not necessarily a good judge of it. But I am proud of DADDY'S GIRL. Since its publication in 1980 it has been of help to a lot of people. And, ultimately, it's my way of returning some measure of the kindness and attention people showed me when I was working my way along the rough roadway toward my future.

From the time her Uncle, Two Spears, had held her up as a squalling infant before her father's Wolf Soldier guard, to inspire them to sack Outpost IX! Thirteen years later, now Princess of the Imperium, daughter of the Eldadorian Emperor, Lee stood toe-to-toe with the ancient power of the King of Trenbon; he nearly 1,000 years old, she barely fourteen, a Sorceress in her mother's training. With victory impossible, Lee allowed her own Wolf Soldier guard, the Duke's son, Hectaro, to leap with her into a void and certain death! The ancient king would have no daughter of the Mordeturs as a bargaining chip! And yet, Lee and Hectaro didn't die, but found themselves instead in a land far from Eldador. Surrounded by enemies, without food, without water, with only Hectaro's sword to protect them. Now Lee travels the lands of an enemy far worse than the Trenboni King, across mountain ranges and roaring rivers, and through armies numbering in the tens of thousands. Can Lee Mordetur find the allies, the magic and the strength within herself to overcome the obstacles now before her, and to find her way home? Maybe that's why they call her Daddy's Girl!

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In Danielle Steel’s riveting novel, three women raised by their father on a sprawling California ranch now confront difficult truths about their past. Decades ago, after the death of his wife, Texas ranch hand JT Tucker took his three small daughters to California to start a new life. With almost no money, a will of iron, and hard work, he eventually built the biggest ranch in California. But when he dies suddenly at the age of sixty-four, the ranch is inherited by his three daughters—each of them finding it impossible to believe that this larger-than-life figure is gone from their lives. JT’s relationship with each daughter was entirely different. Caroline, the youngest and most reserved, was overlooked by her father for her entire life and fled to become a wife, mother, and writer in Marin County. Gemma, his declared favorite, sought out Hollywood glamour and success and became a major television star. Kate, the eldest, stayed at home with her father to do his bidding as a ranch hand, without thanks or praise, forsaking marriage and a family of her own for the love of him. Now, upon JT’s death, the paper trail he leaves behind begins to reveal much more than the three sisters ever guessed about who he really was. It will turn their world upside down, and each of them must grapple with a new reality, strengthening their relationships with one another, and discovering who they are now as grown women, in spite of him. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the West and the drama of a family in turmoil, Daddy’s Girls is the story of three remarkable women and their unique bond to each other—the daughters of a complex, many-faceted, domineering father who left his mark on each of them.
