Book Jesus berlieferung und Christologie

Download or read book Jesus berlieferung und Christologie written by Gerhard Schneider and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-04-09 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Christology

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Christology written by Francesca Aran Murphy and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2015-09-24 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Christology brings together 40 authoritative essays considering the theological study of the nature and role of Jesus Christ. This collection offers dynamic perspectives within the study of Christology and provides rigorous discussion of inter-confessional theology, which would not have been possible even 60 years ago. The first of the seven parts considers Jesus Christ in the Bible. Rather than focusing solely on the New Testament, this section begins with discussion of the modes of God's self-communication to us and suggests that Christ's most original incarnation is in the language of the Hebrew Bible. The second section considers Patristics Christology. These essays explore the formation of the doctrines of the person of Christ and the atonement between the First Council of Nicaea in 325 and the eve of the Second Council of Nicaea. The next section looks at Mediaeval theology and tackles the development of the understanding of who Christ was and of his atoning work. The section on 'Reformation and Christology' traces the path of the Reformation from Luther to Bultmann. The fifth section tackles the new developments in thinking about Christ which have emerged in the modern and the postmodern eras, and the sixth section explains how beliefs about Jesus have affected music, poetry, and the arts. The final part concludes by locating Christology within systematic theology, asking how it relates to Christian belief as a whole. This comprehensive volume provides an invaluable resource and reference for scholars, students, and general readers interested in the study of Christology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Series:Studies in Theology and Religion (STAR), Am 15. Book God Sent His Son

    Book Details:
  • Author : Cardinal Christoph Schšnborn
  • Publisher : Ignatius Press
  • Release : 2010-01-01
  • ISBN : 158617410X
  • Pages : 413 pages

Download or read book God Sent His Son written by Cardinal Christoph Schšnborn and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work of Christology, Christoph Cardinal Schonborn, a world-renowned theologian, takes as his starting point the Apostle Paul's statement, "But when the time had fully come, God sent for his Son, born of woman, born under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons" (Gal 4:4-5). Based on many years of lecturing on Christology, Cardinal Schonborn's work moves from the solid conviction of faith that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah of Israel, the Son of the Living God, through the development of the Church's understanding of this truth, to the consideration of contemporary issues and the views of various modern theologians. Cardinal Schonborn sees Christology as based on the original Illumination granted by the Father in manifesting his Son, which divides, as if through a prism, into a rainbow of Christological themes. "Christology," he writes, "in every phase of its development, follows its path by this light: 'in thy light do we see light' (Ps 36:10)." Christology is always faith seeking understanding-trying to understand that to which the believer already says, "Yes!" God Sent His Son has the comprehensiveness and scholarly precision of a textbook but the insights and personal relevance of a work of spirituality. It carefully explores ancient and medieval questions, but also modern issues of Christology.

Book The Flesh of the Word

    Book Details:
  • Author : K.J. Drake
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2021-04-13
  • ISBN : 0197567967
  • Pages : 325 pages

Download or read book The Flesh of the Word written by K.J. Drake and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extra Calvinisticum, the doctrine that the eternal Son maintains his existence beyond the flesh both during his earthly ministry and perpetually, divided the Lutheran and Reformed traditions during the Reformation. This book explores the emergence and development of the extra Calvinisticum in the Reformed tradition by tracing its first exposition from Ulrich Zwingli to early Reformed orthodoxy. Rather than being an ancillary issue, the questions surrounding the extra Calvinisticum were a determinative factor in the differentiation of Magisterial Protestantism into rival confessions. Reformed theologians maintained this doctrine in order to preserve the integrity of both Christ's divine and human natures as the mediator between God and humanity. This rationale remained consistent across this period with increasing elaboration and sophistication to meet the challenges leveled against the doctrine in Lutheran polemics. The study begins with Zwingli's early use of the extra Calvinisticum in the Eucharistic controversy with Martin Luther and especially as the alternative to Luther's doctrine of the ubiquity of Christ's human body. Over time, Reformed theologians, such as Peter Martyr Vermigli and Antione de Chandieu, articulated the extra Calvinisticum with increasing rigor by incorporating conciliar christology, the church fathers, and scholastic methodology to address the polemical needs of engagement with Lutheranism. The Flesh of the Word illustrates the development of christological doctrine by Reformed theologians offering a coherent historical narrative of Reformed christology from its emergence into the period of confessionalization. The extra Calvinisticum was interconnected to broader concerns affecting concepts of the union of Christ's natures, the communication of attributes, and the understanding of heaven.

Download or read book Faiblesse et force pr sidence et coll gialit chez Paul de Tarse written by Loïc Berge and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2 Cor. 10–13, as in the entire Pauline corpus, the use of the first person plural is surprising. Paul oscillates between singular ('I') and plural ('We'), sometimes within the same sentence. While this literary feature has never been seriously explored, this study undertakes in the first part an investigation of the meanings of 'we' in ancient Greek texts through several literary genres, from Homer to the Hellenistic period. The second part, devoted to 2 Cor. 10–13, shows the neat architecture of these chapters, and the way the key theological message about weakness (ἀσθένεια) and power (δύναμις) is delivered. Also the occurrences of 'We' and 'I' throughout the text reveal a further underlying theology of authority.

Die Kurzvortrage befassen sich mit Ahtanasius (Christopher Stead - Cambridge), Apollinaris (Ekkehard Muhlenberg - Gottingen), Asterius (Wolfram Kinzig - Cambridge), Theodoret (Silke-Petra Bergjan - Munchen), Hieronymus (Ralph Hennings - Heidelberg), Augustinus (Dietmar Wyrwa - Berlin). Book The Trinitarian Axiom of Karl Rahner

Download or read book The Trinitarian Axiom of Karl Rahner written by Dennis W. Jowers and published by Dennis W. Jowers, Ph.D.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The widely-accepted Grundaxiom of Karl Rahner's doctrine of the Trinity functions in contemporary theology as a means of reconciling seemingly contradictory claims. The present study, by contrast, indirectly challenges the viability of such theologies by subjecting the Grundaxiom to a thoroughgoing, immanent critique. It argues that Rahner fails to supply a credible account of how human beings learn of the existence of the immanent Trinity.
