Book excerpt: A magical love story, inspired by the legend of a woman who vanished from Grand Central Terminal, sweeps readers from the 1920s to World War II and beyond. “Readers who enjoyed Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife will be enchanted.”—Publishers Weekly “I utterly loved this clever, charming, hopeful tale of true love against all odds.”—Ariel Lawhon, New York Times bestselling author of I Was Anastasia On a clear December morning in 1937, at the famous gold clock in Grand Central Terminal, Joe Reynolds, a hardworking railroad man from Queens, meets a vibrant young woman who seems mysteriously out of place. Nora Lansing is a Manhattan socialite and an aspiring artist whose flapper clothing, pearl earrings, and talk of the Roaring Twenties don’t seem to match the bleak mood of Depression-era New York. Captivated by Nora from her first electric touch, Joe despairs when he tries to walk her home and she disappears. Finding her again—and again—will become the focus of his love and his life. As thousands of visitors pass under the famous celestial blue ceiling each day, Joe and Nora create a life of infinite love in a finite space, taking full advantage of the “Terminal City” within a city. But when the construction of another landmark threatens their future, Nora and Joe are forced to test the limits of their freedom—and their love. Praise for Time After Time “I’ll never again set foot in Grand Central Terminal without looking over my shoulder for Nora and Joe, or marveling at the station itself—a backdrop as intriguing as the love story that unfolds beneath its star-studded ceiling.”—Georgia Hunter, New York Times bestselling author of We Were the Lucky Ones “In lively prose set against the fascinating history of Grand Central . . . Grunwald asks a compelling question: How long would we stay in one place [for love]?”—Time “The spectacular Lisa Grunwald has written a classic story of fate, true love, art, and chance with truth and beauty. You will want to share it with every reader you know.”—Adriana Trigiani, New York Times bestselling author of Tony’s Wife

Book Globalising Worlds and New Economic Configurations

Download or read book Globalising Worlds and New Economic Configurations written by Christine Tamasy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few decades, circuits of capital have been stretched through processes of economic globalization, leading to complex and hybrid outcomes that result in different modes of production and consumption. Understanding these new economic configurations and their geographic patterns requires incorporating new theoretical arguments based on, for example, chain and network concepts. This edited volume brings together theoretically-informed analysis from Asia, Europe and North America to illustrate the way in which new economic configurations have been developed and to understand individual, local and regional responses to a variety of global challenges, threats and opportunities. The different examples presented illustrate that economic structures and flows have changed dramatically over the past decades with profound impacts for the economic and regional actors involved.

Download or read book Transformation written by Anthony L Walker and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-08-13 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: trans*for*ma*tion NOUN A marked change, of something or someone, usually for the better. Nature provides an amazing example of a transformation. A butterfly's life begins as an egg that becomes a larva. At its appointed time, a caterpillar breaks out and then begins to eat, and eat, and eat. Then the caterpillar spins a thread into a shell-like covering around its body. Inside this cocoon, the caterpillar changes into a pupa. The pupa grows into a beautiful, colorful, and graceful butterfly. People also go through transformations. From conception until death, we go through a series of changes. Once conceived, the life cycle stages begin and progress to produce a newborn baby. The baby grows and becomes a toddler, which then matures into an adolescent. Adulthood follows, and the process continues through mid-life through to old age. This experience is a natural transformation. There is also a spiritual transformation that we all should go through. This alteration involves changing on the inside and revealing it on the outside. You go through a conversion from living a worldly lifestyle to living a Christian life that is pleasing to God. You should desire and seek to achieve this spiritual makeover with all of your might. Many will confess to being a Christian, but are they really like Christ? You can't just name it and claim it. You have to live it. To be a Christian means to be Christ-like. You must learn to live like Christ, to love like Christ, forgive like Christ, even bless like Christ, etc. Some may say that living a Christian life is easier said than done. Why is that so? I think mainly because we have inherently conformed to this world, and this world promotes pretty much everything except Christian living. Sadly, the vast majority of those who call themselves Christians in these last days are as far from Christ as they can possibly be. They think they are living for Jesus with all of their wickedness and false doctrines and evil lifestyles. I believe that people want this transformation but are not too willing to take the necessary steps to make this process change. This change isn't always easy, but it is absolutely obtainable. You may ask, "What is required to live a Christian life?" The answer is in the Holy Bible. Transformation -- Living a Christian Life can be summed up with one Bible verse: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Rom. 12:2). Many have conformed to the ways of the world. They need a renewing of their mind. They need to get back in alignment with the will of God. This book's purpose is to reunite you with God, His Word, and His will for your life, which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Book Christmas in the Crosshairs

Download or read book Christmas in the Crosshairs written by G. Q. Bowler and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christmas, a global phenomenon adored by billions and a backbone of international trade, is the biggest single event on the planet. For Christians it is the second-most sacred date on the calendar. But whether one celebrates it or not, it engages billions of people who are caught up in its commercialism, music, sentiment, travel, and frenetic busyness. Since its controversial invention in the Roman Empire, Christmas has struggled with paganism, popular culture, fierce Christian opposition to its celebration, its abolition in Scotland and New England, and its neglect and near-death experience in the 1700s, only to be miraculously reinvented in the 1800s. The twentieth century saw it opposed by Bolsheviks, twisted by Hitler, and appropriated by every special interest group in the industrialized world. Lately it has been caught up in the cultural struggles between the left and the right in America, often misinterpreted as a war on Christmas, when the fight is really over whether religion in general will be allowed a public face. Gerry Bowler tells the fascinating story of the tug-of-war over Christmas, replete with cross-dressing priests, ranting Puritans, atheist witches, the League of the Militant Godless, aesthetic terrorists in Quebec and rap-singing Santa killers in Spain.

The fireplace is lit, the snow is falling, and sleigh bells echo in the distance—it’s Christmas, and it’s time to come home in this charming holiday novel based on Dorothy Shackleford and Blake Shelton’s hit song. Thirty-five-year-old Heath Sawyer has finally made it to the big-time as a country music star. After a year full of the kind of success he could only dream of, it’s December 23, and he’s headlining a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. It’s only as the lights on the stage go down and the Christmas lights outside come on that Heath realizes there’s just one place he wants to be for the holidays: back home in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. But journeying anywhere on Christmas Eve is never easy, and with flight delays, inclement weather, and the unexpected company of a feisty young woman who’s about to become his traveling companion, Heath will need a Christmas miracle to make his way home in time to open presents. Filled with touching anecdotes inspired by the real holiday memories of Blake Shelton and Dorothy Shackelford, Time for Me to Come Home is a sweet and funny story that celebrates the spirit of Christmas and the true meaning of finding your way back home. “It’s funny how going back can get you back to where you belong. It’s the difference between just a melody and my favorite Christmas song.”
