Book Toddler and Parent Interaction

Download or read book Toddler and Parent Interaction written by Anna Filipi and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12-17 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a microanalysis of the interactions between four children and their parents starting when the children were aged 9 to 13 months and ending when they were 18 months old. It tracks development as an issue for and of interaction. In so doing, it uncovers the details of the organisation of the sequence structure of the interactions, and exposes the workings of language and social development as they unfold in everyday activities. The study begins with a description of pre-verbal children’s sequences of action and then tracks those sequences as linguistic ability increases. The analysis reveals a developing richness and complexity of the sequence structure and exposes a gap in Child Language studies that focus on the children’s and their carers' actions in isolation from their sequential environment. By focusing on the initiating actions of both child and parent, and the response to those actions, and by capturing the details of how both verbal and nonverbal actions are organised in the larger sequences of talk, a more complete picture emerges of how adept the young child is at co-creating meaning in highly organised ways well before words start to surface. The study also uncovers pursuit of a response, and orientation to insufficiency and adequacy of response, as defining characteristics of these early interactions.

Book Family Talk

Download or read book Family Talk written by Christy Monson and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christy Monson, a retired family therapist, provides in concrete examples and clear language the keys to family success through family councils. While families are diverse and their needs are unique, a family council provides a safe and strong environment for every family to discuss issues and explore the best ways to have the family succeed. A family council is not just any meeting. It's a special event that provides a background and foundation to create healthy family synergy. Monson teaches families what a family council is and what it is not, why it’s a perfect environment for teaching, for exploring difficult issues, learning how to play, and how best to solve problems at home, school, or work. Monson also includes information for families with special needs. Family councils are a great way to bring children and parents together in a positive environment where they can discuss and solve problems.

  • Pages : 231 pages

Download or read book Living as Mapmakers written by Debbie Pushor and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-21 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While teacher knowledge is well-researched and conceptualized, parent knowledge remains largely unstudied. In response, this book details Pushor’s conceptualization of parent knowledge, the unique knowledge that arises from the lived experiences of being a parent, knowledge that is relational, bodied and embodied, intuitive, intimate, and uncertain. Drawing from her narrative inquiry into parent knowledge, Pushor shares and unpacks the stories of one participant as a way to provide a close up view of the parent knowledge a First Nations father held and used in living with and educating his children. Twelve teachers and parents then put forward their individual and contextual experiences immersed in explorations and use of parent knowledge, attending to the questions, How can what parents know enhance schooling experiences for children? How can parent knowledge, used alongside teacher knowledge, inform decisions made in schools and enhance curricular programming and outcomes for children? Using the metaphor of maps ... of mapmaking ... of living as mapmakers, this book is a storied account of the new practices in which parents and teachers engaged to enable parent knowledge to guide their work with children. It is an honest and vulnerable account of their journeys. The authors puzzle over the complexities and the successes of their work and the resulting impact on children, parents, and teachers. This book is an invitation to educators and parents to consider how to walk alongside one another, using both teacher and parent knowledge, for the benefit of children’s learning and wellbeing.
