Book Christianity and Non Christian Religions Compared

Download or read book Christianity and Non Christian Religions Compared written by Edward A. Marshall and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christianity and Non-Christian Religions Compared: Containing 800 Library References to Facilitate Further Study In this present age of seeming uncertainty in spiritual verities, and of exalting the heathen religions to the position of equality with Christianity, it becomes necessary that we examine their actual teachings and compare them with those of the Bible. This is made doubly necessary since the priests and pundits of some of the non-Christian religions have begun to visit England and America to promulgate their Oriental philosophy and metaphysics. Their listeners, not having a knowledge of the actual character of these systems, or of the saving grace of God in Christ, are sometimes caught by their subtle sophistry, and led, step by step, into very absurd beliefs. One of the most striking examples of this is seen in the transplanting of Hinduism into Christian lands, under the non de plume of Christian Science. The strongest and most satisfactory way of learning the relative value of the teachings of these various religious systems is to study them comparatively. This is an exceedingly difficult task, as it requires a large amount of time and patience to search through scores of volumes containing much that is tiresome and uninteresting. Then, too, it would doubtless be unwise for the average person to spend the money necessary to purchase the required number of books to get a comprehensive knowledge of these world religions. This volume endeavors to gather into brief paragraphs the teachings of the leading non-Christian religions, under about sixty fundamental topics. This enables the reader to secure within a few moments a general idea of what the people of the world believe on the most important moral and spiritual subjects connected with human life. A glance at the page of "Instructions" will assist the reader in getting the most help from the book. An effort has been made to give due credit to books from which quotations have been made. In the very wide research necessary through a large number of volumes, this may sometimes have been overlooked, for which the author offers due apology. Download or read book Routledge Revivals The Islamic Jesus 1977 written by Don Wismer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1977, this book is intended as a record of sources in Islamic prophetology which focus on the prophet Isa — Jesus in Christian theology. The Islamic Isa differs markedly from the Christian Jesus, most obviously in that, although considered an important prophet, he is overshadowed by Muhammad. The doctrine of tawhid — the indivisible oneness of God — also necessarily means the rejection of Christ’s incarnation or dual nature. The primary of role of Jesus in Islam, as with all Islamic prophets, is to reaffirm the primeval religion of man, best expressed by the Shadada and Islam. This book collects, as comprehensively as possible, bibliographic sources in English and French from the time of the earliest available texts (circa 1650) providing annotated commentary and source information — making it an invaluable research tool for anyone who wishes to study the Islamic Jesus in more detail.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Light of the World: A Brief Comparative Study of Christianity and Non-Christian Religions Our book for the coming year, The Light of the World, is published by the Central Committee. Its author is Mr. Robert E. Speer, who deals in an attractive and sympathetic way with the great religions of the world. No one is better fitted for the task, and Mr. Speer has in these six chapters presented fairly these Eastern faiths and shown clearly their inadequacy to human need. The testimony of eminent men who have come out from these religions into the true Light cannot be disputed or discounted. The presence in our own country of certain men and women who are giving incomplete and incorrect state ments of non-christian faiths, which are sometimes accepted by American women, makes this volume especially valuable at this time. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book compares the ideals, symbols and deliverers (saviors) of seven major non-Christian religions with the Christ of the New Testament. How do these religions relate to Christ and Christianity? The author shows that Christ is the only Savior who is a historical reality and not a myth. Verses from Scripture show who Christ is and how He overshadows the myths of deliverers in non-Christian religions. The ideals, symbols, and deliverers of each major religion, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and Shinto, are discussed. The vision of this book is that people with contact with any of the seven major religions discussed may have Scripture to relate to the beliefs of these religions and be able to discuss meaningfully the significance of their beliefs with Christianity. The problem confronted in this book is Pluralism's claim that all religions lead to God. An alternative approach is presented, namely that Christ fulfills the ideals of any of the major religions presented. Throughout the discussion of each religion if the question of revelation. Would God give only revelation or many revelations for different cultures? The purpose of the book is not simply to compare religions. It is to show how the New Testament Christ fulfills any ideals or deliverer concepts in these non-Christian religions. The pattern of writing is to present material from each non-Christian religion and compare this with Christ as the more powerful, the incomparable, and only Savior of the world.
