Book Christianity and Morality Or the Correspondence of the Gospel With the Moral Nature of Man Classic Reprint

Download or read book Christianity and Morality Or the Correspondence of the Gospel With the Moral Nature of Man Classic Reprint written by Henry Wace and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christianity and Morality, or the Correspondence of the Gospel With the Moral Nature of Man The general subject of the two courses of Boyle Lectures contained in this volume is the Evidence in behalf of the Christian Faith afforded by the Moral Nature of Man. The author proposed to deal more particularly with those objections which, admitting the supreme obligation of Morality, deny that it requires any such religious support or superstructure as Christianity affords. Starting from the sense of Right and Wrong, he has endeavoured to show that it can only be explained upon the supposition of our standing in intimate relation to a spiritual world and to a Divine Person, and that it involves spiritual cravings for which Christianity alone offers an adequate satisfaction. Book Human Reason and the Perfect Morality

Download or read book Human Reason and the Perfect Morality written by James Watson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Human Reason and the Perfect Morality: A Discourse By Christianity we mean that which is revealed in the everlasting Gospel not any Of the counterfeits, ancient or modern, which are Offered as substitutes for it. Incarnation Of divinity without a divine person, redemption without a ransom, justification without a perfect righteousness, a covenant Of peace without a proper atoning sacrifice, a good conscience without an adequate vindication of moral law, a pure heart without faith in divine love, and such like incoherent fancies may suit those who resolve their belief into a feeling devoid Of thought but a sound understanding, discern ing that truth is not self-contradictory, can no more find rest in meaningless mysticism, or in vague idealism, than in the romantic theory of the soul's salvation by the physical power of Sacraments. The christianity by which men are made holy is found in the genuine Gospel of Jesus Christ. Sanctify them through thy truth thy word is truth. Book The Gospel and the Modern Man Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel and the Modern Man Is the gospel of the New Testament to be "the power of God unto salvation" for the modem man? Or must it be replaced by a philosophy of religious values that reduces the historical Jesus to a creature of the unwarranted faith of Galilean fishermen, and changes the church into a polite audience listening to discussions of social reform? These questions are not merely rhetorical. Christianity was founded upon the Christ of the New Testament. The history of the church is the history of an attempt to make that Christ the inspiration for Godlike living and the basis of an assurance of divine forgiveness. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospels The object of the Oxford Library of Practical Theo logy is to supply some carefully considered teaching on matters of Religion to that large body of devout laymen who desire instruction, but are not attracted by the learned treatises which appeal to the theo logian. One of the needs of the time would seem to be, to translate the solid theological learning, of which there is no lack, into the vernacular of' everyday practical religion; and while steering a course between what is called plain teaching on the one hand and erudition on the other, to supply some sound and readable instruction to those who require it, on the subjects included under the common title 'the Christian Religion, ' that they may be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh them a reason of the hope that is in them, with meekness and fear. Book The Gospel in the Gospels Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel in the Gospels Classic Reprint written by William Porcher Dubose and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel in the Gospels The title of the present volume is intended to indicate that, while it aims to be an exposition of the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ, it does not purpose to be a whole or final exposition of that Gospel. It looks forward definitely to a further and fuller expression of it. We have here to do with the Gospel, not in its developed utterance as that of the New Testament or of the Church, but only so far as it is contained in our canonical Gospels or can by ourselves be deduced from them. My own position is that, while the Gospel as an act or fact is complete in Jesus Christ Himself, the rationale of its operation in human salvation is best interpreted and stated by St. Paul. My true objective point has therefore been the completer construction of the Gospel according to St. Paul, to be treated in a volume to follow the present one. That the epistles of St. Paul are an interpretation only, and not a transformation nor even an essential modification, of the Gospel of our Lord is - next to the hope of casting a single new ray of light upon the nature of the Gospel itself - the point which I have most at heart to prove in the end. Book An Enquiry Into the Moral Regeneration of Human Nature

Download or read book An Enquiry Into the Moral Regeneration of Human Nature written by George M'cann and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-21 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Enquiry Into the Moral Regeneration of Human Nature: With Observations on the Relation It Bears to the Several Duties of a Christian Life The term humanity embraces more than a super; ficial observer would be led to imagine. It is a term 1 comprehensive in itself, and embraces and con; nects all that is morally virtuous, with Christian principle. Its province includes one of the greatest creative works of infinite wisdom - the foundation of the covenant of grace; the great sacrifice of atone ment and, of a necessary consequence, every thing relating to our present and eternal welfare. One would imagine, that a subject so vast, and so com prehensive, would have long since exhausted the ingenuity of metaphysical research but, strange to say, -it has scarcely been touched upon by any, even by those who have Spent their lives in the benevolent duties iof regulating society, by either' legal or religious compacts.
