This book was released on 2016-07-07 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of British homosexuals, in comparison to the population, is mindboggling, for the very simple reason that boarding-school homosexuality gives boys the chance to discover the true nature of their sexuality, which is, for the majority, omnisexual. In the rest of the world homosexuals who had the slightest percentage of heterosexuality used it to the hilt, in order to escape locker-room insults in the best of times, torture and burning at the stake in the worst. Homosexuality was illegal too in Britain and for this, as well as for societal reasons, men who were basically homosexual ended up marrying--unhappily--but the proverbial English stiff-upper-lip saw them through. These men were lenient with their sons in a way that existed nowhere else, boys permitted, in my days, to wear rings in their ears and dye their hair green (today they have nose rings and rings on the intimate parts of their bodies, revealed in the bedroom and the backroom). I've therefore had to make a draconian choice in men and historical periods, concentrating on the outstanding, the incredible, the outrageous, but also the most pervasive, like prep-school sex and what took place in Victorian London. I've taken the best of the best in making this book, a fully-illustrated history of English homosexuality from Caesar to the Cambridge Four Spy Ring to Bruce Chatwin. It's because I want this book in the hands of the young that I'm pricing it at the lowest amount allowed by my editors, its expense due to its length.

This book was released on 2023-12-17 with total page 2832 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph Smith's 'History of Joseph Smith, the Prophet and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' is a comprehensive account of the founding of the Mormon Church in the early 19th century. Written in a straightforward and informative style, the book provides deep insights into the religious and social context in which Smith operated, shedding light on the origins and development of one of America's most unique and influential religious movements. This work is not only a historical record but also a testament to Smith's spiritual experiences and his role as a charismatic leader. The narrative is rich in detail, drawing on personal accounts and historical documents to paint a vivid picture of the early days of the Mormon Church. Joseph Smith, as the founder of the Latter-day Saint movement, was uniquely positioned to write this account. His firsthand experiences and intimate knowledge of the events he describes give the book an authenticity and depth that resonate with readers. Smith's visionary leadership and unwavering faith are evident throughout the text, making it a valuable resource for anyone interested in American religious history or the Mormon faith. I highly recommend 'History of Joseph Smith, the Prophet and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' to scholars, historians, and anyone seeking a profound understanding of the origins of the Mormon Church and the life of its founder. This book is a must-read for those interested in the intersection of religion, culture, and history in early America.

Book St George s Chapel Windsor in the Fourteenth Century

Download or read book St George s Chapel Windsor in the Fourteenth Century written by Nigel Saul and published by Boydell Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A definitive look at the early history of St George's Chapel, one of the most important medieval buildings in England. Developed and improved by Edward III, the Chapel became the spiritual home of his newly-instigated Order of theGarter and, in the process, a new Camelot for the English monarchy. St George's Chapel, Windsor, is one of the most famous ecclesiastical foundations in Britain. Established in 1348, its origins are closely bound up with those of the Order of the Garter, which was founded by Edward III at the sametime. The collection of essays in this volume sets Windsor in its context, at the forefront of the political and cultural developments of mid-fourteenth-century England. They examine the early history of the Chapel, its tieswith Edward III's chivalric ambitions, the community of canons who served it, and its place in the institutional development of the English Church. Major themes are the role of the Chapel in the early history of the Order and itsinfluence on other collegiate foundations of the late middle ages; and much attention is devoted to the mighty building campaign at the Castle started by Edward III which made Windsor the grandest royal residence of its day.
