Book Toxicity of O Chlorobenzylidene Malononitrile CS in Trioctylphosphate TOF Solutions

Download or read book Toxicity of O Chlorobenzylidene Malononitrile CS in Trioctylphosphate TOF Solutions written by and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As solutions containing 1% o-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile (CS) in trioctylphosphate (TOF) have been proposed for use in riot control situations, a series of toxicological tests was conducted in animals. Results showed that the doses tested are not permanently injurious to the eyes. Effects on skin ranged from none to necrosis, and the affected ares usually healed within 2 weeks. When the mixtures were directly injected into the trachea, some evidence of congestion and pneumonia was seen. But the severity and duration of signs were not in a category that would warrant veterinary treatment under conditions of normal animal care. The reported studies indicate that no irreversible damage is expected with 1% CS/TOF solutions as long as the dose ranges shown to be safe in this paper are not exceeded.

Book Identification of the Compounds Formed During the Low Temperature Heat Dispersal of O Chlorobenzylidene Malononitrile CS Riot Control Agent

Download or read book Identification of the Compounds Formed During the Low Temperature Heat Dispersal of O Chlorobenzylidene Malononitrile CS Riot Control Agent written by Joseph J. Hout and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: US Army mask confidence training is conducted using low temperature heat-assisted dispersal of encapsulated o-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile (CS riot control agent). This study quantified the CS concentration and identified the CS thermal degradation products detected inside of an Army mask confidence chamber. Degradation products identified in the chamber were compared to those observed in a laboratory setting at temperatures ranging from 150-300 deg. C. The average surface temperature of the Army dispersal system was 257 deg. C and the daily average CS concentration ranged from 2.33 - 3.29 mg/m3. There were 17 CS thermal degradation products identified in the chamber, fifteen of which were identified in the laboratory (one at 150 deg. C and 15 at 300 deg. C). The two additional products detected in the chamber were likely due to molten CS dripping through air holes directly into the heat source. A better CS delivery system that contains the CS and maintains a temperature near 150 deg. C should create the desired CS concentration and hinder the formation of undesirable degradation products.

Book The Cutaneous Irritant Reaction to Agent O Chlorobenzylidene Malononitrile CS I Quantitation and Racial Influence in Human Subjects

Download or read book The Cutaneous Irritant Reaction to Agent O Chlorobenzylidene Malononitrile CS I Quantitation and Racial Influence in Human Subjects written by Dennis A. Weigand and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine whether a significant difference exists between Negroes and Caucasians in cutaneous irritant reaction to CS, and to try to localize to a specific layer of skin any relative protective principle which Negro skin might have. A determination as to whether racial difference exists in the symptomatic response of the skin was also sought. Standardized exposures were given on the volar surface of the forearm and the back by an occlusive patch-test technique, utilizing duration of exposure as the variable. A range of exposures, low to high, was given each subject, and the minimal perceptible erythema (MPE) was read. The impression that Negroes are less susceptible to irritant determatitis from CS2 was confirmed. On both forearm and back, the production of MPE required approximately twice the exposure time on Negroes as on Caucasians. The racial difference in reactivity is lost if stratum corneum (the barrier layer) is removed. Neither is there a racial difference in the stinging sensation, which is caused by CS that penetrates by the transappendageal route. It is proposed that the difference in the melanin content of the stratum corneum between the two races may account for the difference in reactivity; i.e., that melanin exerts a protective influence, possibly by reacting with CS. Download or read book Chemical Warfare Agents written by Brian J. Lukey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-04-11 with total page 1129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this book, Chemical Warfare Agents: Toxicity at Low Levels, was published just prior to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The second edition titled, Chemical Warfare Agents: Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Therapeutics, included new epidemiological and clinical studies of exposed or potentially exposed populations; new treatment concepts and products; improved organization of the national response apparatus addressing the potential for CWA terrorism; and improved diagnostic tests that enable rapid diagnosis and treatment. Since the second edition, the chemical warfare agent community has worked hard to advance research for protection and treatment and develop/improve response approaches for individuals and definitive care. Consequently, in addition to updating previous chapters, Chemical Warfare Agents: Biomedical and Psychological Effects, Medical Countermeasures, and Emergency Response, Third Edition features several new chapters that address the Syrian War, chemical destruction, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, biomarkers for chemical warfare agent exposure, field sensors, aircraft decontamination, lung/human on a chip, chemical warfare response decision making, and other research advancements. Features: Describes the newest medical interventions, and the latest technologies deployed in the field, as well as developments in the international response to CW usage highlighting recent events in the Middle East Discusses the latest in organizational/interagency partitioning in terms of responsibilities for emergency response, not just in the United States but at the international level—whether prevention, mitigation, medical care, reclamation, or medico-legal aspects of such response Contains the most current research from bench-level experts The third edition contains the most up-to-date and comprehensive coverage of the question of chemical warfare agent employment on the battlefield or in terrorism. Edited by workers that have been in the field for 35+ years, it remains faithful to the scientific "constants," while evaluating and crediting the advances by the industry that have made us safer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Warfare Agents, Second Edition has been totally revised since the successful first edition and expanded to about three times the length, with many new chapters and much more in-depth consideration of all the topics. The chapters have been written by distinguished international experts in various aspects of chemical warfare agents and edited by an experienced team to produce a clear review of the field. The book now contains a wealth of material on the mechanisms of action of the major chemical warfare agents, including the nerve agent cyclosarin, formally considered to be of secondary importance, as well as ricin and abrin. Chemical Warfare Agents, Second Edition discusses the physico-chemical properties of chemical warfare agents, their dispersion and fate in the environment, their toxicology and management of their effects on humans, decontamination and protective equipment. New chapters cover the experience gained after the use of sarin to attack travellers on the Tokyo subway and how to deal with the outcome of the deployment of riot control agents such as CS gas. This book provides a comprehensive review of chemical warfare agents, assessing all available evidence regarding the medical, technical and legal aspects of their use. It is an invaluable reference work for physicians, public health planners, regulators and any other professionals involved in this field. Review of the First Edition: "What more appropriate time for a title of this scope than in the post 9/11 era? ...a timely, scholarly, and well-written volume which offers much information of immense current and...future benefit." —VETERINARY AND HUMAN TOXICOLOGY
