Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The figure of Christ is at the heart of Christian faith and self-understanding, whether conservative or liberal. In this volume, widely acclaimed theologian Celia Deane-Drummond sets out to develop an understanding of Christ that is far more conscious of the evolutionary history of humanity and current evolutionary theories about the natural world. It argues that the concepts of wisdom and wonder have special roles in both theology and science and can point to an integrated, inclusive spirituality and a fuller vision of life and the universe. Book The Emergent Christ

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ilia Delio

  • ISBN : 160833144X
  • Pages : 209 pages

Download or read book The Emergent Christ written by Ilia Delio and published by Orbis Books. This book was released on 2011 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ilia Delio makes fascinating sense of the universe, beginning with the story of cosmic evolution, coursing through the meaning of God in evolution and the emergence of Christ, and concluding with new ways of seeing Christ in all things. As Teilhard de Chardin did in The Divine Milieu, Ilia Delio reveals the sacrament of God at work in the world. She also explores the spiritual evolution within each of us and suggests that it will change the cosmos as well as the church. She shows that we are at a stage in evolution where our choices will determine what happens next. "Love," she writes, "always seeks the best for the beloved but God is a beggar of love who waits at the soul's door without daring to force it open. The question of Christ emerging as the personal center of the universe is not a question of yes or no but a question of how that love will evolve." She makes one thing perfectly clear: it is happening and the evidence is astounding. The Emergent Christ is an antidote to the new atheism that says there is no place in evolution for God, let alone a God of love. It is also a spiritual tonic for Christians interested in understanding their place and purpose in this evolving universe.

Book Christianity and Evolution

Download or read book Christianity and Evolution written by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and published by HMH. This book was released on 2002-11-18 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of The Phenomenon of Man reconciles passionate faith with the rigor of scientific thinking. With his unique background as a geologist, paleontologist, and Jesuit priest, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was a powerful exponent of the view that scientific theories could comfortably coexist with religious faith. To this day, his ideas provoke passionate debates in communities that view science and faith as necessarily separate ideologies. In this collection of nineteen essays, Teilhard seeks to illuminate a middle ground between science and religion that he felt both disciplines could accept. He explores the Fall and original sin, the possibility of life on other planets, and the role that God may have played in the process of human evolution, successfully challenging contemporary theologians to rethink their views of the universe and its creation. “Like other great visionary poets—Blake, Hopkins, Yeats—Teilhard engages the reader both intellectually and sensually.” —The Washington Post Book World “An excellent blend of theological speculation with practical or ascetical application.” —Catholic Telegraph

Book I Love Jesus I Accept Evolution

Download or read book I Love Jesus I Accept Evolution written by Denis O. Lamoureux and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-03-04 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thought-provoking book, born-again Christian Denis O. Lamoureux argues that the God of the Bible created the universe and life through evolution--an ordained, sustained, and design-reflecting natural process. In other words, evolution is not the result of blind chance and our creation is not a mistake. Lamoureux challenges the popular assumption that God disclosed scientific facts in the opening chapters of Scripture thousands of years before their discovery by modern science. He contends that in the same way the Lord meets us wherever we happen to be in our lives, the Holy Spirit came down to the level of the inspired biblical writers and used their ancient understanding of origins in order to reveal inerrant, life-changing Messages of Faith. Lamoureux also shares his personal story and struggle in coming to terms with evolution and Christianity.

Book The Christ Is Not a Person

Download or read book The Christ Is Not a Person written by J. C. Tefft and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are we born? For what purpose are we here? The longer we remain unaware of what is taking place within us of what drives us and what can liberate us from the bonds of egocentric behavior the longer we allow what the Buddha called the sorrow of life to hold sway. The sorrow of life is the sum and consequence of our total identification with the world that is created by self. The word Consciousness means something more than what the mind of self thinks, imagines, or conceives. Awareness in Pure Consciousness is an awareness that is other than self and beyond thought. Contrary to traditional thinking, the so-called unseen, unknown world is nothing more than Consciousness of which we are unaware. Unawareness in Consciousness has been evolving into Awareness in Consciousness since before time began. The author of this work comprehensively sets forth a meaning of ancient scripture that likely has not been advanced to you before. He demystifies ancient legends and myths so the essential truth of ancient teachings shines through. Using ancient scripture as a guide, he insightfully explores a growing conscious awareness that has been emerging within mankind over the last few thousand years. A must read for anyone looking to discover the deeper meaning of ancient scripture beyond a literal interpretation of the words.

Book Four Views on Creation Evolution and Intelligent Design

Download or read book Four Views on Creation Evolution and Intelligent Design written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolution--or the broader topic of origins--has enormous relevance to how we understand the Christian faith and how we interpret Scripture. Four Views on Creation, Evolution, and Intelligent Design presents the current "state of the conversation" about origins among evangelicals representing four key positions: Young Earth Creationism - Ken Ham (Answers in Genesis) Old Earth (Progressive) Creationism - Hugh Ross (Reasons to Believe) Evolutionary Creation - Deborah B. Haarsma (BioLogos) Intelligent Design - Stephen C. Meyer (The Discovery Institute) The contributors offer their best defense of their position addressing questions such as: What is your position on origins - understood broadly to include the physical universe, life, and human beings in particular? What do you take to be the most persuasive arguments in defense of your position? How do you demarcate and correlate evidence about origins from current science and from divine revelation? What hinges on answering these questions correctly? This book allows each contributor to not only present the case for his or her view, but also to critique and respond to the critiques of the other contributors, allowing you to compare their beliefs in an open forum setting to see where they overlap and where they differ.

Book A Secret History of Christianity

Download or read book A Secret History of Christianity written by Mark Vernon and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity is in crisis in the West. The Inkling friend of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield, analysed why. He developed an account of our spiritual predicament that is radical and illuminating. Barfield realized that the human experience of life shifts fundamentally over periods of cultural time. Our perception of nature, the cosmos and the divine changes dramatically across history. Mark Vernon uses this startling insight to tell the inner story of 3000 years of Christianity, beginning from the earliest Biblical times. Drawing, too, on the latest scholarship and spiritual questions of our day, he presents a gripping account of how Christianity constellated a new perception of what it is to be human. For 1500 years, this sense of things informed many lives, though it fell into crisis with the Reformation, scientific revolution and Enlightenment. But the story does not stop there. Barfield realised that there is meaning in the disenchantment and alienation experienced by many people today. It is part of a process that is remaking our sense of participation in the life of nature, the cosmos and the divine. It's a new stage in the evolution of human consciousness.

  • Author : Robert R. Mullen
  • Publisher : CreateSpace
  • Release : 2014-04-10
  • ISBN : 9781497443471
  • Pages : 400 pages

Download or read book Postulating Christ written by Robert R. Mullen and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-04-10 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Postulating Christ was written primarily as a response to unfounded and unproven Evolutionary teachings as a source to show that there is an alternative to Evolution that requires science to prove what they are claiming instead of just believing and teaching that it is true (All religions only require belief). This book was also written to help people to recognize Satan's attacks that have been launched on the human race throughout history. This book will take you through what the Evolution Religion has done to humanity including proof that Evolution is not Science but rather a religious dogma for those who believe they are intellectually superior academics that have risen above the need for an Almighty God. This book lays out how Satan sets traps for the destruction of humanity and how we can recognize his presence. Evolution and other World Religions, specifically Islam, are only part of Satan's arsenal against men. Postulating Christ compares verses within the Christian Bible with verses in the Koran to give the reader an eye opening realization that not all of the Gods of the different World Religions are the same God. This book also includes direct comparisons with Evolutionary teachings, Bible teachings, Islamic teachings and lastly, Anton Lavey's Satanic Bible teachings to show direct parallels between these four religions proving the true author of Evolution, Islam and the Satanic Bible by their direct similaritiies. As God has always used men for his purposes on the Earth; Prophets, Apostles, Preachers, Teachers and Evangelists. Satan also uses men to do his will on the Earth through offense, lust, trickery, greed, destruction, lies, etc. Satan used Charles Darwin as much as he did Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin to murder over 70,000,000 people during WWII. This book will lay out the process that Satan used to trap Israel through Hitler and others and how the same religions that caused all of the destruction in World War II are still present on the Earth today and still causing the destruction of mankind.

Download or read book The Priority of Christ written by Robert Barron and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a long time, Christians have tried to bridge the divide between Christianity and secular liberalism with philosophizing and theologizing. In The Priority of Christ, Father Robert Barron shows that the answer to this debate--and the way to move forward--lies in Jesus. Barron transcends the usual liberal/conservative or Protestant/Catholic divides with a postliberal Catholicism that brings the focus back on Jesus as revealed in the New Testament narratives. Barron's classical Catholic post-liberalism will be of interest to a broad audience including not only the academic community but also preachers and general readers interested in entering the dialogue between Catholicism and postliberalism.

Along the way, she offers surprising insights on issues such as artificial intelligence, technology, the search for extraterrestrial life, and, most of all, the meaning of Christ in our lives and our role as co-creators. Book The Evolution of Christs And Christianities

Download or read book The Evolution of Christs And Christianities written by Jay Raskin and published by Xlibris Corp. This book was released on 2006-03-07 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ideology rather than promulgating an authentic history of people and social groups. 2) A woman, wrote the earliest layer of the canonical gospel tales. She was probably named Mary and may have been a daughter of a Jewish High Priest. 3) Most of the words of Jesus of Nazareth found in the Gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke were originally from texts about John, the Nazarene Prophet, A.K.A. John, the Baptist. 4) Important features of the characters of Jesus and the Apostle Peter came from a Samaritan magician called Simon Magus. 5) The major Christian group in Jerusalem in the first century was The Church of God. This institution was associated with James the Just and opposed by Paul the Tarsan. It apparently made its money by training slaves in obedience for widows. It looked towards Joshua (Jesus) of Nun for salvation as opposed to the laws of Moses and, like Paul, it knew nothing of any Jesus from Nazareth Taken together, these hypotheses suggest that Jesus of Nazareth was not a real historical person. He was primarily a complex literary creation. He was a combination of various texts about Joshua of Nun, John, the Nazarene Prophet, James the Just, Simon Magus and various other literary characters. However some of these earlier characters may have been loosely based on, or intended to refer to, various historical persons who lived in the first half of the First century.
