Book THE CHOICE ISSUES ON CHINA S ROAD TO SOCIALISM

Download or read book THE CHOICE ISSUES ON CHINA S ROAD TO SOCIALISM written by JIANG Jing and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book mainly talks about why and how China has chosen socialism as well as major issues that have served to accelerate its transition from a new-democratic country into a socialist society. It focuses on Sino-Soviet relations and the Soviet assistance in China’s economic development, national defense industry, science, technology, education, and culture in the early years of the People’s Republic of China. It reviews the difficulties in China’s economic recovery and the strategy of overall learning from the Soviet Union over that same period. It elaborates on the strategy of heavy-industry-oriented development and the collectivization of agriculture for China’s transition to socialism. Using abundant historical examples, it will not only enable readers to better understand the formulation and establishment of China’s political, economic, and social systems, but also provide chances for international comparison of different models of development. It will hopefully contribute to promoting mutual understanding between China and western countries and boosting more inclusive development across the world in economic, cultural and social terms. In particular, it is of a significant reference value for researchers, teachers, and students engaged or interested in political science, economics, sinology, history, cross-cultural communication, etc. It is also recommended for those who are interested in China and the Chinese development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a fascinating compact history of Chinese political, economic, and cultural life, ranging from the origins of civilization in China to the beginning of the 21st century. Historian Paul Ropp combines vivid story-telling with astute analysis to shed light on some of the larger questions of Chinese history. What is distinctive about China in comparison with other civilizations? What have been the major changes and continuities in Chinese life over the past four millennia? Offering a global perspective, the book shows how China's nomadic neighbors to the north and west influenced much of the political, military, and even cultural history of China. Ropp also examines Sino-Indian relations, highlighting the impact of the thriving trade between India and China as well as the profound effect of Indian Buddhism on Chinese life. Finally, the author discusses the humiliation of China at the hands of Western powers and Japan, explaining how these recent events have shaped China's quest for wealth, power and respect today, and have colored China's perception of its own place in world history.

Book Art History Narratology and Twentieth Century Chinese Art

Download or read book Art History Narratology and Twentieth Century Chinese Art written by Lian Duan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-28 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study constructs a framework of narratology for art history and rewrites the development of twentieth-century Chinese art from a narratological perspective. Theoretically and methodologically oriented, this is a self-reflective meta-art history studying the art historical narratives while narrating the story of modern and contemporary Chinese art. Thus, this book explores the three layers of narrative within the narratological framework: the first-hand fabula, the secondary narration, and the tertiary narrativization. With this tertiary narrativization, the reader-author presents three types of narrative: the grand narrative of the central thesis of this book, the middle-range narrative of the chapter theses, and case analyses supporting these theses. The focus of this tertiary narrativization is the interaction between Western influence on Chinese art and the Chinese response to this influence. The central thesis is that this interaction conditioned and shaped the development of Chinese art at every historical turning point in the twentieth century. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, critical theory, Chinese studies, and cultural studies.

Book The Rise of China and Chinese International Relations Scholarship

Download or read book The Rise of China and Chinese International Relations Scholarship written by Hung-jen Wang and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2013-08-23 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at the relationship between Chinese international relations (IR) scholarship and China’s rise as a world power. Specifically, it addresses how China’s rising international status since the early 1990s has shaped the country’s IR studies, and the different ways that Chinese IR scholars are interpreting that rise. The author argues that the development of IR studies in China has been influenced by China’s past historical experiences, its recent change in status in world politics, and indigenous scholarly interpretations of both factors. Instead of treating Chinese IR scholars as value-free social scientists, the author shows how Chinese scholars—as purposive, strategic, and emotional actors—tend to manipulate existing (mostly Western) IR theories to support their policy propositions and identity statements. This book represents one of few efforts to determine how local Chinese scholars are constructing IR knowledge, how they are dealing with intersections between indigenous Chinese and imported IR theory and concepts, and how Chinese scholars are analyzing “their China” in terms of its current rise to power.

Book An Historical Sketch of Chinese Historiography

Download or read book An Historical Sketch of Chinese Historiography written by Huaiqi Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically traces the development of Chinese historiography from the 2nd century B.C. to the 19th century A.D. Refusing to fit the Chinese historical narration into the modern Western discourse, the author highlights the significant questions that concern traditional historians, their philosophical foundations, their development over three thousand years and their influence on the intelligentsia. China is a country defined in terms of its history and its historians have worked hard to record the past. However, this book approaches Chinese history from the very beginning not only as a way of recording, but also as a way of dealing with the past in order to orient the people of the present in the temporal dimension of their lives. This book was listed as the key textbook of the “Eleventh Five-year Plan” for college students in China.
