Book Research on the Influences of Educational Policy on Teaching and Learning

Download or read book Research on the Influences of Educational Policy on Teaching and Learning written by Cynthia S Sunal and published by IAP. This book was released on 2013-07-01 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 14 chapters in this book address education policy as it is being implemented in three world regions, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. The diverse authors utilize original local data, interpreting it to describe policy development and implementation across a range of nations who share commonalities but also differences. The chapters begin with the premise that policy must respond to the needs of the citizenry and to the challenges faced by each society internally as well as globally. Meeting the challenge of frequently competing existing needs while addressing educational development to prepare for future needs, is an ongoing task for policymakers. The researchers authoring the book’s chapters are aware of competing challenges and of the need for frequent revision of educational policy as well as continuing support for its implementation. They base their conclusions and the implications offered on the data while taking into account the culture within which successful and appropriate policy must be implemented. The implications have relevance for any society in the world as diversity exists everywhere so all societies are experiencing challenges generated by our interdependence with each other.

Download or read book Children s Geographies written by Sarah L. Holloway and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-11-23 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children's Geographies is an overview of a rapidly expanding area of cutting edge research. Drawing on original research and extensive case studies in Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia, the book analyses children's experiences of playing, living and learning. The diverse case studies range from an historical analysis of gender relationss in nineteenth century North American playgrounds through to children's experiences of after school care in contemporary Britain, to street cultures amongst homeless children in Indonesia at the end of the twentieth century. Threaded through this empirical diversity, is a common engagement with current debates about the nature of childhood. The individual chapters draw on contemporary sociological understandings of children's competence as social actors. In so doing they not only illustrate the importance of such an approach to our understandings of children's geographies, they also contribute to current debates about spatiality in the social studies of childhood.

Book Revisiting Children s Rights

Download or read book Revisiting Children s Rights written by Deirdre Fottrell and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-07-26 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, passed in 1989, was the first universal treaty dedicated solely to the promotion and protection of the interests of children. In its first decade the Convention achieved near-universal ratification and is now the most widely ratified human rights treaty ever. In addition, as a consequence of its influence, children's human rights have been mainstreamed and are now prioritised at all levels within the United Nations and other regional organisations. This book provides the first comprehensive overview of the first decade of the Convention. It also brings together leading scholars and activists who place the Convention in a wider context and revisit contemporary debates and controversies in children's rights to assess the extent to which these issues have been influenced by the Convention in its first decade.

Book The Environment for Children

Download or read book The Environment for Children written by David Satterthwaite and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-23 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year, millions of children die of environmental causes and many more suffer serious illness or injury. Children are often the most vulnerable to the condition of their environment -and their health is an index of its quality - but their wellbeing is rarely given priority by governments or aid agencies. Ironically, the problems can be traced back to matters which can be treated straightforwardly and at relatively low cost - poor drinking water or food, or infectious diseases which can be controlled. This book gives a multidisciplinary account of the environmental health hazards threatening children and the range of impacts they can have. It also explains what can be done, by communities as well as governments and aid workers, to provide safe and healthy environments for children. The book looks at conditions in a range of cities in the developing world, as well as pollutants and other health problems affecting children in the North. Published in association with UNICEF, and written by some of the same authors as Environmental Problems in Third World Cities (Earthscan, 1993), this provides excellent course material, and will be useful for practitioners working on child development, infant and maternal health, environmental health and community development. David Satterthwaite is Director of the Human Settlements Programme at the International Institute for Environment and Development, and principal author of Environmental Problems in Third World Cities (1993) and Squatter Citizen(1989).

Download or read book Social Work in Health Emergencies written by Patricia Fronek and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-02-28 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive book that provides accessible, international knowledge for practitioners, students and academics about social work in health emergencies and spans fields of practice across world regions with particular reference to the COVID-19 pandemic. Divided into three sections: • Regional, Historical and Social Work Perspectives takes a journey through world regions during the first six months of the pandemic as it unfolded, explores the lessons found in the history of pandemics and situates public health social work practice in the values of the profession. Situating the diversity of challenges and opportunities in context, in turn, influences current and future social work practice. • Social Work Practice, Issues and Responses explores social work practice innovations and responses across eleven key practice fields. International authors feature social work responses during the COVID-19 health emergency from different regions of the world. • Preparing for the Future analyses broader concepts, innovations and the implications for future practices as social work enters a new era of service delivery. The 20 chapters explore the convergence of pandemic, politics and planet which is critiqued within a framework of the profession’s ethics and values of human dignity, human rights and social justice. Social work’s place in public health is firmly situated and built on the premise that the value social work brings to the table deserves recognition and should be documented to inform the development of the profession and future practice and how social work must carry lessons forward to prepare for the next pandemic. The book is relevant to a wide range of audiences, including practitioners, educators and students in social work, human services, international development and public health, as well as policy makers and researchers.

Download or read book The International Survey of Family Law written by Andrew Bainham and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "International Survey of Family Law," published on behalf of the International Society of Family Law, is the successor to the Annual Survey of Family Law'. It provides information, analysis and comment on recent developments in Family Law across the world on a country-by-country basis. The Survey is published annually and its subtitle reflects the calendar year surveyed. Where a country has been regularly surveyed each year, the developments discussed correspond to the year in question. If certain countries have not been surveyed for some years the contributions will usually attempt to cover the intervening period. If countries are being covered for the first time, then more background information will be provided about the state of family law in the country in question. The Survey also contains an article dealing with the more significant developments in international law affecting the family.
