Book Perspectives on Plowden

Download or read book Perspectives on Plowden written by R. S. Peters and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Plowden Report, Children and their Primary Schools (1967), had a huge impact on education in the latter 20th century, but at the time was labelled as left-wing, and of no practical use to the problems of education in the 1960s. The contributors to this volume were all concerned with the educational thinking of the Plowden Report, and its appropriateness or otherwise to the educational needs of the day. In quarters where the Plowden Report was treated as an authoritative textbook, the views in this volume provide a valuable critique.

Book Children And Their Primary Schools

Download or read book Children And Their Primary Schools written by Andrew Pollard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-24 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1987. Several of the chapters in this book were presented at a symposium held at the British Educational Research Association Conference in Bristol in September 1986. This volume’s title is a deliberate echo of the title of the Plowden Report (CACE, 1967). It is now twenty years since Plowden was published and the chapters in this collection constitute an attempt to present a new perspective on one of the central assumptions which underpinned the Report — on the ‘nature of ‘children’. Within the book there are two themes of particular importance. The first is focussed on how children themselves are perceived, bearing in mind new developments in child psychology and in sociological studies of children’s perspectives and behaviour in schools. The second concerns the implications which such developments may have for teaching and learning processes in classrooms.

Book English Primary Education

Download or read book English Primary Education written by W.A.L. Blyth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-21 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1998. This is Volume XII of twenty-eight in the Sociology of Education series. This is part one of a study looking at primary schools from a sociological descriptive view kickstarted by the 1963 review of primary education and its transition into secondary education, by the Central Advisory Council for Education in England by Lady Plowden. This volume seeks to fill a gap by being a single, systematic, comprehensive work which combines a general sociological description of English primary education with a survey of the results of sociological investigations in this field.

Book The English School Volumes I and II

Download or read book The English School Volumes I and II written by Malcolm Seaborne and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-07-30 with total page 751 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Britain has a rich heritage of school buildings dating from the later Middle Ages to the present day. While some of these schools have attracted the attention of architectural historians, they have not previously been considered from the educational viewpoint. Even schools of little or no architectural interest are important sociologically, since the changing architecture of schools reflects changing ideas about how children should be educated and organized for teaching purposes. Documentary material relating to education is often fragmentary, and buildings may thus constitute the only real source of knowledge about the development of particular schools and can also throw light on general educational history. Originally published in 1971 and 1977, these books are, therefore, not only a major contribution to architectural history but also a study in the development of educational ideas and practices from the fourteenth to the twentieth century.
