Book Chemistry of the Cell Interface Part A

Download or read book Chemistry of the Cell Interface Part A written by Harry Brown and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemistry of the Cell Interface discusses reactions involving the cells structured elements and interfacial reaction systems, which are extrapolations from the conventional methodology of solution biochemistry. The contributions to this two-volume book deal with the relationship of structure to biochemical reactions. Part A (Chapters I-V) deals with the components of complex subcellular systems, in vitro interface relationships model for lipid-lipid and lipid-protein interactions, and reaction model for chemical phenomena in systems having restricted degrees of freedom. Part B (Chapters VI-VIII) covers waters contributions to the reaction systems, the consideration of modified proteins as model reactants, and the aspects of protein chemistry pertinent to the design of interface experimental systems. The book is suited for readers who wish to broaden their understanding in interface chemistry within the biological cell.

Book Chemistry of the Cell Interface Part B

Download or read book Chemistry of the Cell Interface Part B written by Harry Brown and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemistry of the Cell Interface, Part B deals with the relationship of structure to biochemical reactions. This book is divided into three chapters. Chapter VI focuses on the water's contribution to the reaction systems, emphasizing the nature of the cell's aqueous phases. The matrix-supported enzymes, technology of the model, and properties of enzymes bound to polymeric matrices that have been contrasted with solution and membrane particle systems are elaborated in Chapter VII. The last chapter focuses on the aspects of protein chemistry pertinent to the design of interface experimental systems. Other topics include the structure of water near interfaces, functional role of water in biological systems, and adsorbed and ionically bonded enzymes. The enzymes insolubilized by the use of bridging compounds and changes in protein conformation associated with chemical modification are likewise covered in this text. This publication is a good source for morphologists, chemists, and specialists of disciplines related to the chemistry of cell interface.

Book Chemistry of the Cell Interface

Download or read book Chemistry of the Cell Interface written by Harry Darrow Brown and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatise is comprised of two volumes: Part A (Chapters I-V) and Part B (Chapters VI-VIII) . Chapters I through III deal with components of complex subcellular systems. In Van Bruggen's Chemistry of the Membrane (Chapter I), the various models have been related to the source data, and the implication of the acceptance of one model over another has been made overt. Thus, while recognizing that biomembranes are chemically as well as functionally diverse, the discussion does much to unify the cell membrane literature. Dieckert, in Chapter II, describes cell particles and the concepts, which have developed from their study, thereby further elaborating on interrelationships inherent in subcellular organization. Consideration of enzymes associated with the membranous organelles (Brown and Chattopadhyay, Chapter III) focuses upon catalytic activity as a function of structural ties.

Book excerpt: In this book a distinguished scientist-historian offers a critical account of how biochemistry and molecular biology emerged as major scientific disciplines from the interplay of chemical and biological ideas and practice. Joseph S. Fruton traces the historical development of these disciplines from antiquity to the present time, examines their institutional settings, and discusses their impact on medical, pharmaceutical, and agricultural practice.

Download or read book Biomolecular Interfaces written by Ariel Fernández Stigliano and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book focuses on the aqueous interface of biomolecules, a vital yet overlooked area of biophysical research. Most biological phenomena cannot be fully understood at the molecular level without considering interfacial behavior. The author presents conceptual advances in molecular biophysics that herald the advent of a new discipline, epistructural biology, centered on the interactions of water and bio molecular structures across the interface. The author introduces powerful theoretical and computational resources in order to address fundamental topics such as protein folding, the physico-chemical basis of enzyme catalysis and protein associations. On the basis of this information, a multi-disciplinary approach is used to engineer therapeutic drugs and to allow substantive advances in targeted molecular medicine. This book will be of interest to scientists, students and practitioners in the fields of chemistry, biophysics and biomedical engineering.

Book Interface between Chemistry and Biochemistry

Download or read book Interface between Chemistry and Biochemistry written by P. Jolles and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2011-09-20 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The developing importance of the interface between chemistry and biology is probably the largest change to have occurred in chemistry in the past 15 years. Increasingly more chemists work on problems dealing with biology, and interfacial research is poised to move into the main stream of both disciplines. This merging of two types of approach has resulted in a vigorous research discipline with unprecedented potential to address important biological and chemical problems. A series of exam ples is developed in this book. Analytical aspects are discussed in several chapters. Fundamental concepts do not only derive from chemistry, but chemistry has provided biochemistry with powerful tools of analysis. Equally important, phys icochemical methods allow studies of nucleic acids and lipids, lipases, receptors and other membrane proteins. Several chapters deal with enzymes in different contexts. The part devoted to metalloproteins is directed toward zinc metallochemistry and NMR structural work on zinc proteins. Chemists have been able to bring to biology their characteristic approach of synthesizing new molecules. These aspects are treated in chapters devoted to glycopeptides and uses of peptides as probes. Further fields of interest in combining different disciplines concern novel active compounds, such as surfactant peptides and catalytic antibodies in studies resulting from close collaboration between chemists and bio chemists.
