Book CVD of Nonmetals

Download or read book CVD of Nonmetals written by William S. Rees, Jr. and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by leading experts in the field, this practical reference handbook offers an up-to-date, critical survey of the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of nonmetals, a key technology in semiconductor electronics, finishing, and corrosion protection. The basics necessary for any CVD process are discussed in the introduction. In the following chapters, precursor requirements, with an emphasis on materials chemistry, common structures of reactants and substrates, as well as reaction control are discussed for a broad range of compositions including superconducting, conducting, semiconducting, insulating and structural materials. Technological issues, such as reactor geometries and operation parameters, are assessed and the viability of the method, both technically and economically, is compared with other techniques for the preparation of thin films. Relevant materials and technical data are collected in tables throughout. An extensive glossary, list of abbreviations and acronyms, and over 1400 references round off this impressive work. The 'CVD of Nonmetals' offers a stimulating combination of basic concepts and practical applications. Materials scientists, solid-state and organometallic chemists, physicists, engineer, as well as graduate students will find this book of enomous value.

Book Optical Properties of Ultra thin Niobium Nitride Films for Single Photon Detectors

Download or read book Optical Properties of Ultra thin Niobium Nitride Films for Single Photon Detectors written by Lucy Elizabeth Archer and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis I made a study of the properties of reactively sputtered ultra-thin films of niobium nitride (NbN) and niobium titanium nitride (NbTiN). Using Variable Angle Spectral Ellipsometry (VASE), I found that the optical properties of NbN films appear to have a critical thickness above which the optical parameters stabilize. I also found that the deposition process has better stability over time for thicker films than for thinner ones; that is, when films are deposited weeks apart, the thinner films show more variation in thickness and optical properties than do the thicker films. The data also suggest that the crystallinity of the substrate upon which the NbN is deposited has a significant effect on the optical parameters. The set of films deposited for the optical study was also tested against a universal scaling law for thin film superconductors, which seems to support the existence of the critical thickness, below which the properties change significantly and do not conform to the power law scaling that holds for thicker films. Finally, I explored recipes for depositing NbTiN with our sputtering system, in the hope of creating films that have better properties than NbN to be used in device manufacturing. I was able to create films with the same properties as our current NbN films with minimal optimization, and further work in this area should result in NbTiN films that are better than our NbN films.

Book A Review of Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition of High temperature Superconducting Thin Films

Download or read book A Review of Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition of High temperature Superconducting Thin Films written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A status report is given on the metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) of high-temperature superconducting thin films. The advantages of MOCVD processing manifest themselves in the quality of the films produced, and in the economy of the process. Metalorganic precursor requirements, deposition parameters and film properties are discussed. Also difficulties have been identified in making MOCVD a manufacturing technology. To solve these problems, future research directions are proposed.
