Book N heterocyclic Carbene Group 4 Metal Complexes

Download or read book N heterocyclic Carbene Group 4 Metal Complexes written by Charles Romain and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of a novel NHC chelating ligand allowed the beneficial “association” of a soft NHC moiety with hard oxophilic group 4 metal which lead to the synthetize of a broad family of NHC group 4 metal complexes. Remarkably, the (OCO)MXX' group 4 chelates (X, X' = amido, alkoxide, chloride) were all found to be stable and robust entities with the NHC moiety truly and solely acting as an ancillary ligand under catalytic conditions. Attempts to access alkyl group 4 derivatives opened the way to an unprecedented NHC--involving alkyl/benzyl rearrangement reaction, there by constituting the first instance in which a NHC moiety coordinated to a high--oxidation--state and oxophilic transition metal NHC complex exhibited such a behavior. The prepared NHC group 4 metal alkoxide species were investigated in polymerization catalysis and found to be suitable initiators for the controlled and highly stereoselective ring--opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters (lactide, a dimer of lactic acid) and cyclic carbonates (trimethylene carbonate), demonstrating the robustness of such species in catalytic conditions. These results constitute the first instance in which a NHC--based oxophilic metal catalyst is competitive and, to some extent, even performs better than current systems the area.

Book Ligand Design in Metal Chemistry

Download or read book Ligand Design in Metal Chemistry written by Mark Stradiotto and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of ancillary ligands used to modify the structural and reactivity properties of metal complexes has evolved into a rapidly expanding sub-discipline in inorganic and organometallic chemistry. Ancillary ligand design has figured directly in the discovery of new bonding motifs and stoichiometric reactivity, as well as in the development of new catalytic protocols that have had widespread positive impact on chemical synthesis on benchtop and industrial scales. Ligand Design in Metal Chemistry presents a collection of cutting-edge contributions from leaders in the field of ligand design, encompassing a broad spectrum of ancillary ligand classes and reactivity applications. Topics covered include: Key concepts in ligand design Redox non-innocent ligands Ligands for selective alkene metathesis Ligands in cross-coupling Ligand design in polymerization Ligand design in modern lanthanide chemistry Cooperative metal-ligand reactivity P,N Ligands for enantioselective hydrogenation Spiro-cyclic ligands in asymmetric catalysis This book will be a valuable reference for academic researchers and industry practitioners working in the field of ligand design, as well as those who work in the many areas in which the impact of ancillary ligand design has proven significant, for example synthetic organic chemistry, catalysis, medicinal chemistry, polymer science and materials chemistry.

Book Chelating Agents and Metal Chelates

Download or read book Chelating Agents and Metal Chelates written by F Dwyer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chelating Agents and Metal Chelates focuses on the structure and properties of metal chelates, as well as bond types, stereochemistry, and optical phenomena. The selection first offers information on historical background and fundamental concepts and the nature of metal-ligand bond. Discussions focus on the structure and stability of metal chelates, bond types and characteristic properties, classes of acceptor metal atoms, and metal-metal bonds in complex compounds. The text also touches on bidentate chelates, design and stereochemistry of multidentate chelating agents, and optical phenomena in metal chelates. The publication ponders on oxidation-reduction potentials as functions of donor atom and ligand and metal chelates of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and related substances. Topics include liquid junction potentials, reversibility, measurement of redox potentials, ethylenediaminetetraacetato chelate couples, and metal chelates of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. The text also takes a look at metal chelates in biological systems and physical and coordination chemistry of tetrapyrrole pigments. The manuscript is a vital reference for senior students, research workers, biologists, and medical scientists interested in the chemistry of metal chelates.
