Book Checklist of the Parasites of Fishes of Latvia

Download or read book Checklist of the Parasites of Fishes of Latvia written by Muza Kirjušina and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This checklist summarizes information on the parasites of Latvia fishes contained in the world literature dating to the end of 2005. Information is presented in the form of parasite-host and host-parasite lists and includes 305 named species of parasites. Also included are many records of parasites not identified to species level. The Parasite-Host List is organized on a taxonomic basis and provides information for each parasite species on the environment (freshwater, brackish, marine), the location (site of infection) in or on its host(s), the species of host(s) infected, the known geographic distribution (by major waterbody) in Latvia, and the published sources for each host and locality record. The common freshwater fish species (particularly those having economic importance, such as the cyprinids, percids, esocids and salmonids) have been particularly well studied, providing a good general picture of their parasite faunas and data having value for use in faunistic analyses. This checklist is part of FAO's continuing effort to address the need of information on the occurrence of diseases and pathogens of aquatic animals. Three previous checklists have summarized the parasites of fish of the Philippines, Bangladesh and Viet Nam.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This checklist summarizes information on the parasites of Latvia fishes contained in the world literature dating to the end of 2005. Information includes 305 named species of parasites, distributed among the higher taxa as follows: Protista - 42, Myxozoa - 49, Digenea - 38, Monogenoidea - 81, Cestoda - 33, Nematoda - 31, Acanthocephala - 11, Hirudinida - 2, Mollusca - 6, Branchiura - 2 and Copepoda - 10. The host-parasite list is organized according to the taxonomy of the hosts, and includes for each host, the English language, Latvian and Russian common names, environment (freshwater, brackish, marine), status in Latvia (native or exotic) and the list of parasites reported. Both lists are accompanied by remarks, as warranted, giving specific information on points of systematics, nomenclature, possible misidentifications, introductions, life cycles, etc. Citations are included for all references and parasite and host indices are included. The parasite fauna of fishes of Latvia has received considerable attention; nevertheless, parasites have been recorded from only about 45 percent of the more than 114 species of marine and fish occurring in the country's waters. The common freshwater fish species (particularly those having economic importance, such as the cyprinids, percids, esocids and salmonids) have been particularly well studied, providing a good general picture of their parasite faunas and data having value for use in faunistic analyses.--Publisher's description.

Book Tigris and Euphrates Rivers Their Environment from Headwaters to Mouth

Download or read book Tigris and Euphrates Rivers Their Environment from Headwaters to Mouth written by Laith A. Jawad and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-12 with total page 1612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The system of the Tigris-Euphrates Rivers is one of the great river systems of southwestern Asia. It comprises the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, which follow roughly parallel courses through the heart of the Middle East. The lower portion of the region that they run through is known as Mesopotamia, was one of the cradles of civilisation. There are several environmental factors that govern the nature of the two rivers and shape the landscape the two rivers running through. Geological events create rivers, climate monitor the water supply, the surrounding land influences the vegetation and the physical and chemical features of water. The Tigris-Euphrates system runs through the territory of four countries, Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria. Therefore, any scientific approach to the environment of these two rivers should include the natural history events in these countries. The book "Tigris and Euphrates Rivers: Their Environment from Headwaters to Mouth" will be divided into nine parts. These parts deal with the issues of the environment, the status of the flora and fauna, the abiotic aspects, ecology, hydrological regime of the two rivers, the biotic aspects. Water resources, stress of the environment, conservation issues. Since the book of Julian Rzoska "Euphrates and Tigris Mesopotamian Ecology and Destiny" in 1980, no book or major reference has been published that includes between its cover the facts and information that the present book will present. Therefore, the importance of the present book falls in stating the present status of the environment of the two rivers and the comparison of their environment between now and that of 37 years ago as given by J. Rzoska (1980). The recent studies showed that there are a large number of natural and political events that happened within the last three decades in the area of the Tigris-Euphrates river system that for sure have done a great change to the environment of the two rivers and consequently changing the biological and non-biological resources of the two rivers. This book will be a reference book to both Academic and students across the Middle East in different disciplines of knowledge to use in their researches on Tigris-Euphrates river system. The scholars interested in this area will use this book as a guide to compare this freshwater system with other areas in Asia and the world.

Book Fish Parasites A Handbook of Protocols for their Isolation Culture and Transmission

Download or read book Fish Parasites A Handbook of Protocols for their Isolation Culture and Transmission written by Ariadna Sitja-Bobadilla and published by 5m Books Ltd. This book was released on 2021-06-30 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good fish health and welfare are essential components of sustainable aquaculture and in this regard, fish parasites constitute a major constraint to production. The aquaculture industries of areas affected by various disease outbreaks have suffered considerably from the impacts of marine and freshwater parasites. It is therefore fundamentally important to take steps to prevent parasite infection, as well as to properly identify, monitor and treat outbreaks when they occur. ParaFishControl, an EU-funded project involving industry, academic and government partners drawn from across Europe, whose work has led to this book, is dedicated to effectively understanding and controlling a diverse range of fish parasites in order to promote the sustainability and competitiveness of the European aquaculture industry. Fish Parasites contains detailed outlines of the most up to date protocols for parasite isolation, culture and transmission, as well as detailed procedures for reproducing parasitic infections in a laboratory environment. Protocols for tasks such as monitoring parasitic infection, isolating parasites and preparing parasite material are explained in detail. In addition, an introduction is provided to the biology and host interactions of each parasite discussed. Fish Parasites provides an essential guide for those who are currently researching fish-parasite relations, as well as for those who may study fish health and welfare more generally or otherwise have broader interests in fish parasites. 5m Books
