Book Catalogue and Bibliography of Australian Fungi

Download or read book Catalogue and Bibliography of Australian Fungi written by T. May and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2003-04 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fungi of Australia Volume 2B: Catalogue and Bibliography of Australian Fungi 2 is an essential reference for taxonomists working on Australian fungi, and anyone who wishes to use up-to-date names of Australian fungi. Together with its companion volume, Fungi of Australia Volume 2A, it lists all the names applied to Australian macrofungi and provides the up-to-date accepted name for each species, along with a comprehensive listing of relevant literature. Volume 2B covers larger fungi in the Basidiomycota, along with the larger Myxomycota. Groups dealt with in this volume include bracket fungi, slime moulds, puffballs, earthballs, earthstars, stinkhorns, birds nest fungi, coral fungi, jelly fungi, polypores, and stereoid, corticioid and thelephoroid fungi. This important work includes entries for more than 1,700 accepted names. For each name the catalogue lists place and date of publication, taxonomic synonyms, cross references to misidentifications and a comprehensive list of all works in which the name has been used in an Australian context. The extensive bibliography contains over 1,800 entries and includes not only taxonomic publications relevant to species described from Australia, but also publications on fungi in relation to forestry, agriculture, ecology, medicine, chemistry and general biology.

Download or read book Biodiversity of Fungi written by Mercedes S. Foster and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-28 with total page 797 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biodiversity of Fungi is essential for anyone collecting and/or monitoring any fungi. Fascinating and beautiful, fungi are vital components of nearly all ecosystems and impact human health and our economy in a myriad of ways. Standardized methods for documenting diversity and distribution have been lacking. A wealth of information, especially regrading sampling protocols, compiled by an international team of fungal biologists, make Biodiversity of Fungi an incredible and fundamental resource for the study of organismal biodiversity. Chapters cover everything from what is a fungus, to maintaining and organizing a permanent study collection with associated databases; from protocols for sampling slime molds to insect associated fungi; from fungi growing on and in animals and plants to mushrooms and truffles. The chapters are arranged both ecologically and by sampling method rather than by taxonomic group for ease of use. The information presented here is intended for everyone interested in fungi, anyone who needs tools to study them in nature including naturalists, land managers, ecologists, mycologists, and even citizen scientists and sophiscated amateurs. Covers all groups of fungi - from molds to mushrooms, even slime molds Describes sampling protocols for many groups of fungi Arranged by sampling method and ecology to coincide with users needs Beautifully illustrated to document the range of fungi treated and techniques discussed Natural history data are provided for each group of fungi to enable users to modify suggested protocols to meet their needs

Book Taxonomic Studies on Saxicolous Species of the Genus Rinodina lichenized Ascomycetes Physiaceae in the Southern Hemisphere with Emphasis in Australia and New Zealand

Download or read book Taxonomic Studies on Saxicolous Species of the Genus Rinodina lichenized Ascomycetes Physiaceae in the Southern Hemisphere with Emphasis in Australia and New Zealand written by Michaela Kaschik and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study revises the cosmopolitan saxicolous lichen species of Rinodina (Ascomycetes) in Australia and New Zealand, including maritime southern South America and subantarctic islands, based on morphological, anatomical and molecular data. The cosmopolitan genus Rinodina used to comprise 200 species (Hawksworth et al. 1995). In the meantime, approximately 250 species are known (Kirk et al. 2001), which are widely distributed in both hemispheres, from (ant)arctic to tropical regions. 29 saxicolous species occur in Australia and New Zealand. The genus Rinodina belongs to the Ascomycetes, the biggest fungus group worldwide, where the ascus represents the most important character. The usually lichen-forming order of the Lecanorales includes 40 families, being characterised by apothecial ascomata and very variable ascospores. Within the family of the Physciaceae nom. cons. (Eriksson et al. 2003), the large genus Rinodina is heterogeneous (e.g. Hafellner et al. 1979, Mayrhofer 1982) because of a multitude of ascospore types. Different ascus types were described by Rambold et al. (1994). In recent years these results are confirmed by molecular phylogenetic studies by Grube & Arup (2001) and Helms et al. (2003).
