Download or read book Charter of the Order of the Dragon written by Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor and published by Dalcassian Press. This book was released on 2024-01-01 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is the brief charter, composed in Latin at the court of the Emperor Sigismund, formed the chivalry society of the Order of the Dragon. Its membership was relegated to members of the German nobility and sovereign monarchs, all of whom took oaths of loyalty and mutual support to drive the Ottoman Turks out of Europe. These knights who made this pledge maintained to organize a crusade to supply military support to the declining Eastern Roman Empire, as well as various Balkan princes, which in time, would prove to be politically disastrous in coming years with the collapse of the Varna Crusade a few decades later. Among those who would eventually swear oaths to the order, Vlad II, Prince of Wallachia, would be among the most popularly remembered, as he would bear the title of the order in his post-nomen "Dracul".

Book excerpt: The record-breaking phenomenon from Elizabeth Kostova is a celebrated masterpiece that "refashioned the vampire myth into a compelling contemporary novel, a late-night page-turner" (San Francisco Chronicle). Breathtakingly suspenseful and beautifully written, The Historian is the story of a young woman plunged into a labyrinth where the secrets of her family’s past connect to an inconceivable evil: the dark fifteenth-century reign of Vlad the Impaler and a time-defying pact that may have kept his awful work alive through the ages. The search for the truth becomes an adventure of monumental proportions, taking us from monasteries and dusty libraries to the capitals of Eastern Europe—in a feat of storytelling so rich, so hypnotic, so exciting that it has enthralled readers around the world. “Part thriller, part history, part romance...Kostova has a keen sense of storytelling and she has a marvelous tale to tell.” —Baltimore Sun

Book When a Dragon Moves In

Download or read book When a Dragon Moves In written by Jodi Moore and published by Flashlight Press. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a beautiful day at the beach, a young boy brings his bucket, shovel, and imagination, and builds a perfect sand castle. Right away, a dragon moves in. The boy decides to befriend his dragon and they spend time roaming the shore, flying a kite, braving the waves, defying bullies, and roasting marshmallows—all while Dad is busy sunbathing and Mom is engrossed in her book. Unfortunately, no one believes the boy when he tries to share the news of this magnificent creature. That's when the mischief begins, and the dragon becomes a force to be reckoned with. While adults will recognize the naughty antics as a ploy for attention, children will dissolve into giggles as the dragon devours every last sandwich, blows bubbles in the lemonade, and leaves claw prints in the brownies. Maybe the dragon really is running amok on the beach, or maybe it's a little boy's imagination that is running wild.

Book excerpt: Since the beginning of time Dragons have existed and live in solitude among their own clans and traditions. Enya lives in the human world but is aware of the fact she's a Dragon. She never encountered any others of her kind and doesn't remember her past. She craves to find out more about herself until she's suddenly faced with a presumptuous, old-fashioned biker who'd rather demand information than willingly provide. Vaughn, Dragon shifter and President of the Dragons Charter, has been the leader of his clan for decades. His clan has been facing problems due to ancient traditions which complicate their very existence. When Vaughn becomes aware of the horrific fact of the existence of a half-blood, he's dead set to handle this abomination accordingly; for a Dragon needs to be a pure blood. A Dragon shifter is adamant, stubborn, and hot-tempered though evolution has a way to make you see reason within havoc. Can ancient traditions withstand modern times? Or will clan members refuse allegiance, leaving Vaughn and Enya no other option then to fight for the right of existence? Each book in the Death by Reaper MC series can be read as a standalone story, featuring a new couple. Book The Ku Klux Klan and Related American Racialist and Antisemitic Organizations

Download or read book The Ku Klux Klan and Related American Racialist and Antisemitic Organizations written by Chester L. Quarles and published by McFarland. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the fact that the Ku Klux Klan can be traced from the 1700s through the Civil War and is going strong in the present day, many people fail to realize the reach and influence of the group. Many scholars, for instance, perceive the KKK as a radical racist group composed primarily of ignorant, uneducated members, when it is actually much more. Some Klan groups are political, while others are simply social. Some meet and eat just as any other mainstream civic or church group, but others are focused toward the use of well-planned violence. Not all Klan groups advocate an overthrow of the U.S. government, though some do. The author traces the historical development of the Klan, addressing its organization, membership, ideologies and philosophies. Avoiding the bias of previous works--written by either Klan apologists or detractors--the author chronicles the directions the group has taken during its long and diverse history. The study also details the secret oaths of allegiance, the Imperial Wizards, and the concept of Knighthood. The result is an accurate account of the Ku Klux Klan, a group that has continued to grow and evolve in response to changing times.
