Book Metallurgical Characterization of Superplastic Forming

Download or read book Metallurgical Characterization of Superplastic Forming written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A systematic characterization of the superplasticity for regular- grade Ti-6Al-4V, ELI-grade Ti-6Al-4V, simulated coil-rolled Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-3Al-2. 5V, Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo, Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V, and Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al sheets with several different microstructures and texture was performed. The effects of alloy chemistry, grain size, volume fraction of constituent phases, and anomalous microstructures on the superplastic parameters were determined by incremental strain-rate, constant stress, constant strain rate and biaxial constant stress cone-forming tests. The strain-rate time (or equivalently, strain) dependences of flow stress and strain-rate sensitivity were identified as the most important superplasticity parameters, with the continuous changes in alloy microstructures during superplastic deformation requiring proper consideration. In the alpha-beta and near-alpha titanium alloys, the flow stress decreases and necking resistance increase with decreasing grain size at 850-950 F (1562 - 1742 F) with increasing strain and time the flow stress at constant strainrate increases and the strain rate at constant applied stress decreases as a consequence of increasing grain size. Ti-6Al-4V alloys with elongated-alpha have significantly higher flow stress than equiaxed regular grade Ti-6Al-4V. The flow stress at a constant strain rate of different alpha-beta alloys is uniquely related to grain size, beta transus temperature, and volume fractions of constituent phases at the test temperature.

Book Titanium Alloys

Download or read book Titanium Alloys written by Maciej Motyka and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Titanium alloys, due to unique physical and chemical properties (mainly high relative strength combined with very good corrosion resistance), are considered as an important structural metallic material used in hi-tech industries (e.g. aerospace, space technology). This book provides information on new manufacturing and processing methods of single- and two-phase titanium alloys. The eight chapters of this book are distributed over four sections. The first section (Introduction) indicates the main factors determining application areas of titanium and its alloys. The second section (Manufacturing, two chapters) concerns modern production methods for titanium and its alloys. The third section (Thermomechanical and surface treatment, three chapters) covers problems of thermomechanical processing and surface treatment used for single- and two-phase titanium alloys. The fourth section (Machining, two chapters) describes the recent results of high speed machining of Ti-6Al-4V alloy and the possibility of application of sustainable machining for titanium alloys.

Book Superplastic Forming Diffusion Bonding Technology of Titanium Alloys

Download or read book Superplastic Forming Diffusion Bonding Technology of Titanium Alloys written by Zhiqiang Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-26 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive illustration to the superplastic forming/diffusion bonding (SPF/DB) technology developed over decades of research on titanium alloys, process modeling, and its application. SPF/DB technology plays key roles in building aviation components with complicated structures, with highly beneficial effects when well designed. With the ever-increasing demand on components with multiple layers, there is an urgent need for an updated assessment of traditional and modern SPF/DB processing methods. Success critically depends on making the most practical and effective choice of SPF/DB method for a given application. The book introduces titanium and titanium alloys, SPF/DB processing and its modeling, and applications for building typical single or multiple layer(s) structures. Particular attention is paid to illustrating the microstructure evolution during SPF/DB processes. The information for making technical decisions about optimal choice of measurement and evaluation methods is also given in the book. Each chapter follows a focused and pragmatic format. Fully illustrated throughout, the book presents the state of the art in SPF/DB technology in a manner that makes it useful for engineers to improve the established forming processes and quality of components. This book is an essential reading material for industrial practitioners, academic researchers and postgraduates.

Book Superplasticity of Alloys Intermetallides and Ceramics

Download or read book Superplasticity of Alloys Intermetallides and Ceramics written by Oscar A. Kaibyshev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superplasticity is shown to be a universal phenomenon in materials ranging from metals and intermetallics to ceramics. Superplastic deformation facilitates the production of materials with specifically chosen properties. This is illustrated using the examples of Mg-, Al-, and Ti-based commercial alloys, steels, and superalloys. Some of the strenghts of this book are: the broad range of materials studied, the reduction of scientific results to a form suitable for the practitioner, a profound physical analysis of the phenomenon, a new approach to superplastic treatment as a kind of strain-heat treatment, the presentation of new data on superplastic flow and on production techniques of micro- and submicrocrystalline structures.

Book Superplasticity in Metals and Ceramics

Download or read book Superplasticity in Metals and Ceramics written by T. G. Nieh and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-01-23 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes advances in the field of superplasticity, the ability of certain materials to undergo very large tensile strains. This phenomenon has increasing commercial applications, but also presents a fascinating scientific challenge in attempts to understand the physical mechanisms that underpin it. The authors emphasize the materials aspects of superplasticity. Beginning with a brief history of the phenomenon, they describe the two major types of superplasticity-- fine-structure and internal-stress superplasticity-- and discuss their operative mechanisms. They also present microstructural factors controlling the ductility and fracture in superplastic materials. Observations of superplasticity in metals (including aluminum, magnesium, iron, titanium and nickel), ceramics (including monoliths and composites), intermetallics (including iron, nickel, and titanium base), and laminates are thoroughly described. This is a valuable text for graduate students and researchers in materials science and engineering.
