Book Characterization of the Microwave Induced Plasma as a Detector for Supercritical Fluid Chromatography

Download or read book Characterization of the Microwave Induced Plasma as a Detector for Supercritical Fluid Chromatography written by Leonard J. Galante and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A microwave induced plasma (MIP) sustained in helium is evaluated as an element selective detector for capillary supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). The plasma source, a surface microwave induced plasma (surfatron), is described. Optimal plasma conditions including viewing position, helium flow rate, and applied microwave power are discussed for sulfur emission in the near-infrared spectral region. In addition, the effects of two common mobile phases (CO2 and N2O) on plasma stability, sensitivity, and spectral background from 200 nm to 1100 nm are assessed. Although the plasma was evaluated principally for use with SFC, much of the discussion is relevant to its application as a gas chromatographic detector. Keywords: Supercritical fluid chromatography; Nonmetal detection; Spectroscopic detector; Speciation; Sulfur detection. (jd/rh).

Book Evaluation of a Supercritical Fluid Chromatograph Coupled to a Surface Wave Sustained Microwave Induced Plasma Detector

Download or read book Evaluation of a Supercritical Fluid Chromatograph Coupled to a Surface Wave Sustained Microwave Induced Plasma Detector written by Debra R. Luffer and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A capillary supercritical fluid chromatograph was coupled to a surface-wave-sustained microwave-induced plasma (MIP) sustained with a surfatron. The chromatographic system, interface, and plasma source are described. The plasma was optimized for sulfur emission at 921.3 nm and used to detect a mixture of sulfur-containing polycyclics that had been separated by SFC. The linear dynamic range for these compounds is 3 orders of magnitude with detection limits of 25 pg/sec of sulfur for thiophene. The relative standard deviations for repetitive injections are typically 1 to 5% at concentrations well above the detection limit. Keywords: Supercritical fluid chromatography; Spectroscopic detector; Speciation; Nonmetal detection; Sulfur analysis. (jes).

Book Analysis with Supercritical Fluids Extraction and Chromatography

Download or read book Analysis with Supercritical Fluids Extraction and Chromatography written by Bernd Wenclawiak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of supercritical fluids in analytical chemistry is still grow ing. More and more analysts are discovering the favorable advan tages for a number of applications. Especially supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) has attracted a lot of interest in recent years due to its simplicity. Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) has become better established and the development of this technique has been accelerated by the many applications with capillary col umns which have been published in the literature. At first SFC equipment was based on instruments commonly used for liquid chromatography, and the first commercial in struments were derived from this technology. However, capillary columns can be much more easily interfaced to gas chromatogra phy equipment especially to the detectors commonly used for Oc. Many stationary phases both for packed micro columns and capillary columns have been designed for SFC purposes extending this technology to LC and OC. The most common fluid applied in SFC and SFE is carbon dioxide. The advantages of supercritical CO , such as having dif 2 fusivity like a gas and solvating power depending on temperature and pressure, are also valid for other fluids and modified fluids. Both properties are valuable for sample extraction and extraction selectivity.

Book Flow Analysis with Atomic Spectrometric Detectors

Download or read book Flow Analysis with Atomic Spectrometric Detectors written by A. Sanz-Medel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-02-25 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flow Analysis (FA) offers a very convenient and fast approach to enhance and automate 'preliminary steps' of analysis (sample dissolution, pretreatments, preconcentrations, etc.) for atomic spectrometric detectors (ASD). Moreover, flow manifolds can ease the well-known problem of sample introduction/presentation to atomisers or even expand the classical scope of atomic/elemental information, characterizing atomic spectrometry, into the realm of molecules and metal-compounds analysis (e.g. by resorting to coupled separation techniques). All these facts could explain both the extraordinary interest for research and the great importance for practical problem-solving achieved nowadays by FA-ASD.On the threshold of the new millennium when plasma emission and mass spectrometry are so important and popular, the editor considered it timely to produce a book which covers all present atomic detectors and techniques where FA has been or can be advantageously employed. The book has been conceived in three separate parts:Part I gives the fundamental, instrumentation and potential of FIA as a most versatile sample presentation/introduction system for atomic spectrometry.Part II provides a modern account of fundamentals, possibilities and applications offered by flow analysis to atomic spectrometry for on-line sample pretreatments, separations and preconcentrations.Part III deals with applications of FA-ASD combinations to analytical problem-solving in most varied fields and situations. This monograph integrates the most popular aspects of FIA, its new developments for sample on-line treatments and on-line non-chromatographic and chromatographic separations (all typical 'flow analysis') in connection with all branches of analytical atomic spectrometry. Thus, academics, researchers and routine users of analytical atomic spectrometry will find this book invaluable.

Book Trace Metal Analysis and Speciation

Download or read book Trace Metal Analysis and Speciation written by I.S. Krull and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-10-08 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this volume is to describe the most recent advances in areas of analytical chemistry that relate to the trace determination of metals and inorganics, as well as their distribution and forms (species) present, sample dependent. Analytical approaches are described that encompass a number of separation methods, such as gas and high performance liquid chromatography, interfaced with selective and sensitive detection methods that become unique for metal species/forms present in various samples. Hyphenated techniques are emphasized, such as interfacing HPLC with plasma induced emission spectroscopy, electrochemistry, post-column reaction chemistry, etc. Each chapter describes the latest instrumental and methodology advances that utilize some form of chromatography together with element-specific detection or mass spectrometry to provide absolute identification of the specific species of a metal present in various samples. The book will be of value to those concerned with the determination of trace levels of individual metal species present or suspected present in any given sample and to those involved in trace metal toxicology, metabolism of metal-containing drugs or chemicals, environmental exposures to metals and chemical speciation of real world samples. Government regulatory laboratories striving to detect and determine absolute levels of a metal species in any regulated sample will be interested in this volume, as will academic institutes involved in environmental toxicology, environmental chemistry, metal-DNA/protein interactions and researchers working with metal species.
