Book Developing Leadership Character

Download or read book Developing Leadership Character written by Mary Crossan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the element of leadership that has largely been neglected in the literature: character. Often thought to be a subjective construct, the book demonstrates the concrete behaviors associated with different character dimensions in order to illustrate how these behaviors can be developed, and character strengthened. Based on research involving over 300 senior leaders from different industries, sectors and countries, Crossan, Seijts, and Gandz developed a model for leadership character that focuses on eleven dimensions. The book begins by setting the context for the focus on character in business, asking what character is and whether it can be learned, developed, molded or changed. Next, the book focuses on each dimension of leadership character in turn, exploring its elements and the ways in which it can be applied in a business setting. The book concludes with a summary of the key insights, an exploration of the interactions between the character dimensions, and a call to the reader to reflect on how to develop one’s own and others’ leadership character. Bridging theory and management practice, Developing Leadership Character will interest students and practitioners alike. Readers will benefit not only from a new, robust theoretical framework for leadership character, but will also learn how character can be developed further.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children in today's world are inundated with information about who to be, what to do and how to live. But what if there was a way to teach children how to manage priorities, focus on goals and be a positive influence on the world around them? The Leader in Meis that programme. It's based on a hugely successful initiative carried out at the A.B. Combs Elementary School in North Carolina. To hear the parents of A. B Combs talk about the school is to be amazed. In 1999, the school debuted a programme that taught The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Peopleto a pilot group of students. The parents reported an incredible change in their children, who blossomed under the programme. By the end of the following year the average end-of-grade scores had leapt from 84 to 94. This book will launch the message onto a much larger platform. Stephen R. Covey takes the 7 Habits, that have already changed the lives of millions of people, and shows how children can use them as they develop. Those habits -- be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek to understand and then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw -- are critical skills to learn at a young age and bring incredible results, proving that it's never too early to teach someone how to live well.

Book The Power of Character in Leadership

Download or read book The Power of Character in Leadership written by Myles Munroe and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Protect Your Leadership Influence and Power You’ve worked hard to achieve your dreams and goals. Many others have done the same—only to lose it all in the end. Every day, we read about successful people in various walks of life who have lost their power and influence. They’ve been fired, forced to resign, or shamed out of public life. They no longer have a market for their gifts, and they may even face criminal proceedings. These leaders have lost the trust of their companies, constituents, nations, followers, and families. Many were surprised to discover that their talents alone were not enough to prevent their downfall. Why did they fail in the end? Because they lacked the one quality that would have protected their leadership and given them enduring influence. Ironically, this quality is seldom taught to leaders today, either formally or informally. It is the quality of moral force, or character. Every human being is a leader over some domain as he or she exercises gifts and influence. That domain might be the halls of government, the boardroom, the classroom, the community, or the home. In The Power of Character in Leadership: How Values, Morals, Ethics, and Principles Affect Leaders, you will discover what character is, what it means to develop moral force, and how to preserve your leadership influence so that it is both effective and enduring.

Download or read book Average Joe s Pillars of Leadership written by Joe Hinchliffe and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-02-22 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How To Develop The Leadership Characteristic Already Within You Leaders change the world. Leaders inspire others. Leaders live their passion Vision Knowing what you want and where you are going is vital. The next step is picturing, in your mind, exactly what you want down to the smallest detail. However, the most important piece of the puzzle is your WHY - the reason you want whatever it is you want. Without that it's game over. Courage You may have your purpose, but do you possess the guts to tell the world and follow it through. Courage needn't be loud and aggressive, more often it's a voice in your mind which compels you to keep trying. Integrity Are you honest? Do you speak what you believe? Do you set the example for others to emulate? Are you a person of their word? Are you committed to becoming more than what you already are? Did you answer yes to all the above? Integrity is built upon these questions, leadership is built upon integrity. Humility The initial response to leadership and humility brings up images of oil and water - they cannot go together. On a second look you will find humility running through every great modern day leader. The role of a leader is to serve the people following them. Can you think less of yourself and more of others, to best meet their needs? It's not as easy as it sounds. Self Discipline If you cannot control yourself you will NEVER have the control of others. You will never be able to keep a team around you who complement your strengths and enhance your weakness. Without those people the dream is just that, a dream, and will never become reality. Planning The first words that come to mind are usually -not again- accompanied with an eye roll. Many great people have said what I'm about to say - if you fail to plan you plan to fail. A plan is like the foundations when building a house. Without them all the work that's supposed to be carried out on top, will eventually collapse on itself. Influence The number one skill needed to be a great salesman and one of the 12 pillars of leadership. Influence is the ability to help people see what you see, to paint them the picture of how you see the future and for them to say -I want that too!- Decision My parents can't make a decision and it's frustrating as hell, especially when we go out for a meal. I ask them where they would like to go, I always get the same response -I'm easy-. As mad as this makes me I realised - people will not follow a leader who cannot decide what to do. Listening Sorry to break your bubble, but you are not going to have all the great ideas. you are one mind among billions, someone else will have the same motives as you and will be able to help. Listen to them and by listen I don't mean hear what they say, actually listen with the intent to understand. Responsibility Can you handle it? The pressure, the weight of the dream on top of your shoulders. If you can't, would you turn down a new opportunity? Many people do! Communication You have the vision, the courage and the best plan since Steve Jobs released the iPhone, but can you tell me so they fully understand it without it taking a long time? It's not easy, but if it was everybody would be able to do it. Mentoring Help the people who follow you by sharing what you know. Not only do they learn, every time you share an idea you get to hear it again and again and again - repetition is the mother of skill.

Book The 5 Levels of Leadership

Download or read book The 5 Levels of Leadership written by John C. Maxwell and published by Center Street. This book was released on 2011-10-04 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Use this helpful book to learn about the leadership tools to fuel success, grow your team, and become the visionary you were meant to be. True leadership isn't a matter of having a certain job or title. In fact, being chosen for a position is only the first of the five levels every effective leader achieves. To become more than "the boss" people follow only because they are required to, you have to master the ability to invest in people and inspire them. To grow further in your role, you must achieve results and build a team that produces. You need to help people to develop their skills to become leaders in their own right. And if you have the skill and dedication, you can reach the pinnacle of leadership—where experience will allow you to extend your influence beyond your immediate reach and time for the benefit of others. The 5 Levels of Leadership are: 1. Position—People follow because they have to. 2. Permission—People follow because they want to. 3. Production—People follow because of what you have done for the organization. 4. People Development—People follow because of what you have done for them personally. 5. Pinnacle—People follow because of who you are and what you represent. Through humor, in-depth insight, and examples, internationally recognized leadership expert John C. Maxwell describes each of these stages of leadership. He shows you how to master each level and rise up to the next to become a more influential, respected, and successful leader.

Book Handbook of Research on Innate Leadership Characteristics and Examinations of Successful First Time Leaders

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Innate Leadership Characteristics and Examinations of Successful First Time Leaders written by Guah, Matthew Waritay and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-02-05 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For hundreds of years, different leadership theories have been explored to try to explain exactly how and why certain people become great leaders. Research spans a discussion of personality traits, the characteristics of the situation at hand, and qualifications of the leader to try to determine what causes people to become more likely than others to take charge. This can be in various settings: CEOs, presidents and prime ministers, managing directors, governors, senators, head coaches, and more. Through the examination of first-time leadership, new theories and ideas on leadership are explored. The Handbook of Research on Innate Leadership Characteristics and Examinations of Successful First-Time Leaders is a comprehensive reference source that focuses on what qualities distinguish first-time leadership from traditional leaders, while furthering leadership theories that look at other variables such as situational factors, knowledge base, skill levels, etc. It reviews the various approaches used by first-time leadership and how each of them uniquely approaches effective leadership, key outcomes, and the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Furthermore, it distinguishes between the traditional route for leadership, the gradual moving up of an individual over time to higher positions, and a first-time leadership in which an individual begins right away in a position without climbing the professional ladder. This book will attempt to draw lessons from existing first-time leadership experience and provide evidence for the appropriateness of such a route to leadership. Topics highlighted include transformational leadership, political leaders, ethical and unethical leadership, and leadership development. This book is ideal for young professionals, leaders, executives, managers, graduate students, practitioners, government officials, researchers, academicians, and students.
