Book Barry Sonnenfeld Call Your Mother

Download or read book Barry Sonnenfeld Call Your Mother written by Barry Sonnenfeld and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **A New York Times Editor's Choice selection!** This outrageous and hilarious memoir follows a film and television director’s life, from his idiosyncratic upbringing to his unexpected career as the director behind such huge film franchises as The Addams Family and Men in Black. Barry Sonnenfeld's philosophy is, "Regret the Past. Fear the Present. Dread the Future." Told in his unmistakable voice, Barry Sonnenfeld, Call Your Mother is a laugh-out-loud memoir about coming of age. Constantly threatened with suicide by his over-protective mother, disillusioned by the father he worshiped, and abused by a demonic relative, Sonnenfeld somehow went on to become one of Hollywood's most successful producers and directors. Written with poignant insight and real-life irony, the book follows Sonnenfeld from childhood as a French horn player through graduate film school at NYU, where he developed his talent for cinematography. His first job after graduating was shooting nine feature length pornos in nine days. From that humble entrée, he went on to form a friendship with the Coen Brothers, launching his career shooting their first three films. Though Sonnenfeld had no ambition to direct, Scott Rudin convinced him to be the director of The Addams Family. It was a successful career move. He went on to direct many more films and television shows. Will Smith once joked that he wanted to take Sonnenfeld to Philadelphia public schools and say, "If this guy could end up as a successful film director on big budget films, anyone can." This book is a fascinating and hilarious roadmap for anyone who thinks they can't succeed in life because of a rough beginning.

Book The Marginalized Passenger

Download or read book The Marginalized Passenger written by Steve Nickodemski and published by Steve Nickodemski. This book was released on 2022-07-08 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I sometimes question why I would make an effort to sit down and transcribe the very things that caused me so much pain in my life. I would venture to say, probably because it's somewhat cathartic, and in doing so, maybe I can help others comprehend why they become the way they are and some of the reasons that cultivate this. It's not entirely our fault; it's not entirely your fault. We are not born fucked-up. We are created, formed, and molded by someone or by some unforeseen circumstances entirely beyond our control. Damage can be done in a multitude of ways to a child, be it by divorce, psychological or physical abuse, or childhood trauma. It seldom starts with intentional malice. It's forged by a series of unfortunate events and, in turn, causes irreparable damage, which can and will carry forward to Let me first mention that this is a memoir. Although, I've endeavored not to stray from the story's main events as much as possible, occasionally I have altered some names for anonymity, and some artistic license has also been added for flavor. However, each event is accurate to the best of my recollection at the time of writing. I have spent countless hours writing this book in hopes of somehow coming to grips with my father's death. So many tears and anguish fill these pages. Writing this book has dredged up years of feelings that I had compartmentalized and forgotten about. So, thank you for choosing to read my memoir. By your reading it, I can finally have that voice that had been silenced all these years.

Book excerpt: Commonly hailed as his masterpiece and his own personal favourite, Dickens's novel “David Copperfield” was first published as a serial in 1849–50 and as a book in 1850. The story revolves around the titular character and spans his growth from infancy to maturity, chronicling the people and places of his life as he develops as a person. A must-read for fans of Dickens's work and well deserving of a place on every bookshelf. Charles John Huffam Dickens (1812–1870) was an English writer and social critic famous for having created some of the world's most well-known fictional characters. His works became unprecedentedly popular during his life, and today he is commonly regarded as the greatest Victorian-era novelist. Although perhaps better known for such works as “Oliver Twist” or “A Christmas Carol”, Dickens first gained success with the 1836 serial publication of “The Pickwick Papers”, which turned him almost overnight into an international literary celebrity thanks to his humour, satire, and astute observations concerning society and character. This classic work is being republished now in a new edition complete with an introductory chapter from “Appreciations and Criticisms of the Works of Charles Dickens” by G. K. Chesterton.

Love had hurt them at an early age and neither of them wanted to experience that pain again. Amber is an elusive, reserved girl, different from the others, beautiful and attractive in the eyes of the boys, but with a past that has left her with indelible scars. Justin is a charming boy with beautiful blue eyes, but with an arrogant, conceited and shameless character; full of resentment towards his parents, who were guilty of neglecting their children due to exaggerated entrepreneurial ambitions, and with a repressed thirst for revenge towards a group of people who had killed his brother in a settling of scores. The protagonists meet when Amber leaves London, the city she hates so much for the difficult childhood she had experienced, to move to New York where she attends one of the most prestigious universities. As time goes by, the two begin to get to know each other better, to trust each other, and to protect each other from the monsters of the present and the past. When love brings them even closer together, they stop denying it and give in to that strong feeling. But their lives have never been the same; in fact, an unexpected proposal will force Amber to make a radical change that Justin will not accept. Translator: Alessandra Cervetti PUBLISHER: TEKTIME
