Download or read book Changements socio conomiques et logiques de f condit en milieu rural ouest africain written by Agnès Adjamagbo and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LA COTE-D'IVOIRE S'EST LONGTEMPS DISTINGUEE PAR SON DYNAMISME DEMOGRAPHIQUE, LIE AUX EFFETS CONJUGUES D'UNE FECONDITE ELEVEE, D'UNE BAISSE DE LA MORTALITE ET D'UNE FORTE IMMIGRATION DE POPULATIONS ETRANGERES. BIEN PLUS QUE LE RESULTAT D'UNE CULTURE PRONATALISTE, LA FORTE CROISSANCE DE LA POPULATION DE COTE-D'IVOIRE S'INSCRIT DANS UNE STRATEGIE DE DEVELOPPEMENT, INITITIEE PAR L'ADMINISTRATION COLONIALE, PUIS POURSUIVIE PAR L'ETAT IVOIRIEN AU LENDEMENAIN DE L'INDEPENDANCE, STRATEGIE, QUI S'EST AVEREE INCOMPATIBLE AVEC UNE POLITIQUE DE REDUCTION DE LA CROISSANCE DEMOGRAPHIQUE. DES LE DEBUT DES ANNEES 80, LA DEGRADATION DE L'ECONOMIE ET LA MENACE QUI PESE SUR LA PAIX SOCIALE, CONDUISENT LA COTE-D'IVOIRE A ADOPTER, EN 1996, UNE POLITIQUE DE POPULATION CONFORME AU MODELE PRONE PAR LES AGENCES INTERNATIONALES. LA REGION DE SASSANDRA DANS LE SUD-OUEST EST UNE SOCIETE RURALE QUI, CONFORMEMENT AU MODELE NATIONAL, SE SPECIALISE DANS LES CULTURES D'EXPORTATION (CAFE, CACAO, PALMIER, AGRUMES). L'INTRODUCTION DES CULTURES DE RENTE ENTRAINE UN VERITABLE BOOM DEMOGRAPHIQUE DANS LA REGION. AU COURS DES ANNEES 70 ET 80, LA POPULATION CROIT A UN RYTHME TRES RAPIDE ET LA FECONDITE SE MAINTIENT A UN NIVEAU ELEVE. LE NOUVEAU SYSTEME DE PRODUCTION PRIVILEGIE LES LOGIQUES DE FORTE FECONDITE, CELA, EN DEPIT D'UNE INDIVIDUALISATION DES COMPORTEMENTS ECONOMIQUES ET SOCIAUX (APPROPRIATION PRIVEE DES TERRES, EMERGENCE DE LA FAMILLE NUCLEAIRE EN TANT QU'UNITE AUTONOME DE PRODUCTION, AFFAIBLISSEMENT DE L'AUTORITE ECONOMIQUE ET SOCIALE DE LA FAMILLE ETENDUE). DES LE DEBUT DES ANNEES 90, ON OBSERVE UNE BAISSE DE LA FECONDITE QUI SEMBLE EN RAPPORT AVEC LA CRISE QUI FRAPPE LE SYSTEME AGRAIRE. CEPENDANT, L'ETUDE APPROFONDIE DES RAPPORTS SOCIAUX HOMME-FEMME ET AINESCADETS MONTRE QUE SI L'ECONOMIE MARCHANDE A PU CONDUIRE A UNE PLUS GRANDE EMANCIPATION DES JEUNES GENERATIONS, EN PARTICULIER DES HOMMES, ELLE N'A PAS SU FAIRE EMERGER UNE PLUS GRANDE EGALITE ENTRE LES SEXES. LA CRISE QUI RETABLIT DES SITUATIONS DE DEPENDANCE ENTRE AINES ET CADETS ET ACCENTUE LES INEGALITES HOMMES-FEMMES REND ENCORE MOINS PROBABLE LA GENERALISATION DU COUPLE “ A L'OCCIDENTAL ” PROPICE A LA MISE EN PLACE D'UNE DES TROIS CONDITIONS FAVORABLES A LA TRANSITION DEMOGRAPHIQUE ENONCEES PAR ANSLEY COALE, CELLE DE “ L'EXERCICE DE CHOIX CONSCIENTS EN MATIERE DE FECONDITE ”.

Book PROMOTION DE LA SANTE ET AUTONOMISATION DANS LE CONTEXTE AFRICAIN

Download or read book PROMOTION DE LA SANTE ET AUTONOMISATION DANS LE CONTEXTE AFRICAIN written by David HouŽto and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Constructivist Moment

Download or read book The Constructivist Moment written by Barrett Watten and published by Wesleyan University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the American Comparative Literature Association's Rene Wellek Prize (2004) As one of the founding poets and editors of the Language School of poetry and one of its central theorists, Barrett Watten has consistently challenged the boundaries of literature and art. In The Constructivist Moment, he offers a series of theoretically informed and textually sensitive readings that advance a revisionist account of the avant-garde through the methodologies of cultural studies. His major topics include American modernist and postmodern poetics, Soviet constructivist and post-Soviet literature and art, Fordism and Detroit techno—each proposed as exemplary of the social construction of aesthetic and cultural forms. His book is a full-scale attempt to place the linguistic turn of critical theory and the self-reflexive foregrounding of language by the avant-garde since the Russian Formalists in relation to the cultural politics of postcolonial studies, feminism, and race theory. As such, it will provide a crucial revisionist perspective within modernist and avant-garde studies.

Book Wealth through Integration

Download or read book Wealth through Integration written by Elias T. Ayuk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Could regional integration be a first step toward joining the global market? In a context where liberalizing trade has not produced the expected gains in developing countries and growth in global trade has not led to the expected economic growth, an alternative solution has emerged. This new paradigm suggests that trade liberalization should be accompanied by public investment. However, by its very nature, trade liberalization leads to a reduction in revenues from duties and taxes, which means that the available resources for public investments will also be reduced. There are now solid arguments for encouraging the less-developed countries to first emphasize regional integration before trying to access the global market. This book explores the issues linked to regional integration in West Africa and presents empirical data about the experiences in = West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) countries to converge their economies. It also examines how these efforts, which make a major contribution to regional integration, influence poverty reduction in the economic and monetary community. It will be of interest to researchers working in this area. Elias T. Ayuk is Director of the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa in Accra, Ghana, and was formerly a senior program specialist at the International Development Research Centre. Book excerpt: Earthen architecture constitutes one of the most diverse forms of cultural heritage and one of the most challenging to preserve. It dates from all periods and is found on all continents but is particularly prevalent in Africa, where it has been a building tradition for centuries. Sites range from ancestral cities in Mali to the palaces of Abomey in Benin, from monuments and mosques in Iran and Buddhist temples on the Silk Road to Spanish missions in California. This volume's sixty-four papers address such themes as earthen architecture in Mali, the conservation of living sites, local knowledge systems and intangible aspects, seismic and other natural forces, the conservation and management of archaeological sites, research advances, and training.

Book Property and Political Order in Africa

Download or read book Property and Political Order in Africa written by Catherine Boone and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-02-10 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In sub-Saharan Africa, property relationships around land and access to natural resources vary across localities, districts, and farming regions. These differences produce patterned variations in relationships between individuals, communities, and the state. This book captures these patterns in an analysis of structure and variation in rural land tenure regimes. In most farming areas, state authority is deeply embedded in land regimes, drawing farmers, ethnic insiders and outsiders, lineages, villages, and communities into direct and indirect relationships with political authorities at different levels of the state apparatus. The analysis shows how property institutions - institutions that define political authority and hierarchy around land - shape dynamics of great interest to scholars of politics, including the dynamics of land-related competition and conflict, territorial conflict, patron-client relations, electoral cleavage and mobilization, ethnic politics, rural rebellion, and the localization and "nationalization" of political competition.

Book People on the Move in a Changing Climate

Download or read book People on the Move in a Changing Climate written by Etienne Piguet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policymakers around the world are increasingly concerned about the likely impact of climate change and environmental degradation on the movement of people. This book takes a hard look at the existing evidence available to policymakers in different regions of the world. How much do we really know about the impact of environmental change on migration? How will different regions of the world be affected in the future? Is there evidence to show that migration can help countries adapt to environmental change ? What types of research have been conducted, how reliable is the evidence? These are some of the questions considered in this book, which presents, for the first time, a synthesis of relevant research findings for each major region of the world. Written by regional experts, the book provides a comprehensive overview of the key findings of existing studies on the linkages between environmental change and the movement of people. More and more reports on migration and the environment are being published, but the information is often scattered between countries and within regions, and it is not always clear how much of this information is based on solid research. This book brings this evidence together for the first time, highlighting innovative studies and research gaps. In doing this, the book seeks to help decision-makers draw lessons from existing studies and to identify priorities for further research.
