Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Doing Business in the Knowledge Based Economy

Download or read book Doing Business in the Knowledge Based Economy written by Louis A. Lefebvre and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 17 and 18, 1998, a conference took place at Mont Tremblant on the theme "Doing Business in a Knowledge-Based Economy." This conference brought together some hundred participants from government, business and academia, with backgrounds in business administration, engineering, public administration and economics, to provide a multidisciplinary analysis of what has come to be known as the "Knowledge-Based Economy" (KBE). The aim was to come up with suggestions and recommendations about how to do business in a knowledge based economy, both at the firm level and at the government level. All presenters were explicitly asked to conclude with policy recommendations. The conference was sponsored by Industry Canada and organized by the Centre of Interuniversity Research on the Analysis of Organizations (CIRANO). The conference papers offered U.S., Canadian and European perspectives on the management of a knowledge-based economy. This volume is divided into three parts. The papers in part I set the stage by describing the salient features of the KBE. What is so special about it? What are its economic underpinnings? What are its technological characteristics? Knowledge plays a crucial role in a KBE, hence its name. Whereas, in the past, growth was determined primarily by the availability of land, natural resources, labour and capital successively, at the end of the twentieth century, knowledge has become a (if not the) major factor of economic growth.

Book Innovation Systems in Emerging Economies

Download or read book Innovation Systems in Emerging Economies written by Vanessa Casadella and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to review the innovation systems in their "classical" version before defining them in the light of emerging economies through the objectives of economic and sustainable development. If we return particularly to the innovation system and its importance, we will show through these new MINTs that their innovation systems are perpetuated, based on very localized experiments, despite the fragility of their links, the lack of national coherence of innovation and above all the weakness of their innovation policy.

Book When Economic Crises Endure

Download or read book When Economic Crises Endure written by Jacques Mazier and published by M.E. Sharpe. This book was released on 1999 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work represents the French Regulation School approach to the study of economics. Regulationists focus on the long-term evolution of capitalist economies with a strong emphasis on cross-country comparisons. Their theory centers on the notion of "accumulation regimes", a concept that analyzes long-wave growth patterns and how those patterns were shaped by five key regulatory mechanisms: 1) forms of competition; 2) the socio-technical system covering all aspects of the capital-labor relation; 3) money; 4) forms of state intervention; and 5) arrangements regulating international economic relations. Methodologically, their approach is very flexible and innovative, ranging from econometric models to interdisciplinary studies.

Book The Globalizing Learning Economy

Download or read book The Globalizing Learning Economy written by Daniele Archibugi and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2002-10-03 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume analyses some of the major current trends and policy challenges in the 'new economy' from the point of view of technical innovation and competence building. It brings together the leading European expertise on different topics in this field. Together the authors give a picture of the most dramatic new challenges in a world where competition is becoming increasingly knowledge-based and global. Why has the US economy been able to realise a so-called new economy based on the effective exploitation of information technology while Europe still suffers from chronic high rates of unemployment? How is it that contemporary economic systems have become more knowledge-intensive but social inequality, both within and across countries, is increasing? The contributors to this volume share the belief that knowledge is a fundamental component of economic growth and welfare. However, the ways in which knowledge is transmitted and distributed among economic agents requires shaping by public policies. The individual chapters report on the most significant policies adopted and assess them in the light of the European experience in comparison with the United States and Japan.

Book Business Cycles in Economic Thought

Download or read book Business Cycles in Economic Thought written by Alain Alcouffe and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business Cycles in Economic Thought underlines how, over the time span of two centuries, economic thought interacted with cycles in a continuous renewal of theories and rethinking of policies, whilst economic actions embedded themselves into past economic thought. This book argues that studying crises and periods of growth in different European countries will help to understand how different national, political and cultural traditions influenced the complex interaction of economic cycles and economic theorizing. The editors of this great volume bring together expert contributors consisting of economists, historians of economic thought and historians of economics, to analyse crises and theories of the nineteenth and the twentieth century. This is alongside a comprehensive outlook on the most relevant advances of economic theory in France, Germany and Italy, as well as coverage of non-European countries, such as the United States. Several of the highly prestigious Villa Vigoni Trilateral Conferences formed the background for the discussions in this book. This volume is of great interest to students and academics who study history of economic thought, political economy and macroeconomics.

Book Integrating Climate Change Actions into Local Development

Download or read book Integrating Climate Change Actions into Local Development written by Livia Bizikova and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-02-13 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To date, climate change adaptation and mitigation have been treated separately both in research and in the climate negotiations. However, a growing body of literature is now being developed that points to actual and potential synergies and trade-offs between responses to climate change and sustainability. This literature has evolved in a spontaneous way with diverse approaches and no common methodology to help practitioners explicitly plan for these synergies. This special issue of the Climate Policy journal addresses this gap between scientific knowledge and practitioners' needs by focussing on linkages between climate change and sustainable development at the level of conceptual framework and methods. In particular, the papers address in an integrated way local development options involving both adaptation and mitigation in order to promote resilience to climate change in human and natural systems. The special issue provides policy and methodological guidelines for linking local deveopment pathways with responses to climate change, based on collaboration between local practitioners, the public and scientists.
