Book Chalk Dirty to Me

Download or read book Chalk Dirty to Me written by Lani Lynn Vale and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two years ago, Cannel Crow experienced the worst day of her life. She was taken from a supermarket, and forced to spend a year with a man that treated her worse than a neglected, chained up dog. One year later, she's saved by a shadow organization that believes the law is a joke, and the only person you can count on is you. After another year, she finally realizes the law's limitation firsthand when the man that bought her from human traffickers, and then forced her to comply to his every whim for a year, is given a plea bargain for names of others in the operation. Knowing that her abuser will spend the rest of his life in the lap of luxury under an assumed name, Cannel spirals. At least, she begins to. Then Wilhelm Schultz, call me Will, walks into her narrow world, larger than life, and changes her reality between one breath and the next. The abrasive, large, gruff police detective sees the world in black and white. There is right, and there is wrong. Until he falls for a woman that needs him to see shades of gray. The second he sees the world like she needs him to, there's not a single thing on the planet that'll stop him from fighting for her. Not even the oath he swore to protect and do no harm.

Download or read book Over the Edge written by Mark Finley and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-10-05 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book Seems like sometimes a feller has ta’ write ’bout stuff that coulda been, mighta been, shoulda been, probably didn’t happen, but would be funny if it did happen. So that’s what the tall tales in this book are all about. Ya see it all started out while attending New Mexico State University from 1962 through 1965. I spent quite a bit of time with a fellow agriculture student named Baxter Black. I reminisce on the times Bax and I sat together in the Ag Building café and told tall tales and made-up nonsense yarns. In 1965, I graduated and went on to pursue a Master of Science of Agriculture degree, and Bax left for Colorado State University to pursue a Veterinary Medicine degree. Baxter later left veterinary practice and made a career writing tall tales and cowboy poetry. One of his major writings was an article named “On the Edge of Common Sense,” which appeared in many newspapers and agricultural publications. Eventually, I worked for USDA and wrote a similar article called “Over the Edge” for the agency. I believe both of these articles were inspired by the many times we sat at the Ag Building café and spun these humorous stories. I kept all the stories I wrote, and after many years of pressure from friends and family to publish these stories of the adventures of me ’n’ Ol’ Joe, I finally agreed. So here to share with you is a collection of these humorous tall tales about two bumbling old cowboys and the not-much-brighter ranch owner who somehow went OVER THE EDGE! About the Author Born in 1943, Mark Finley lived in San Angelo, TX until 1958, when his family moved to New Mexico. Through high school and college at New Mexico State University, he worked part time on ranches and competed in and clowned rodeos to earn his way through college. After earning both Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Agriculture, he worked as a feedlot cowboy in Red Rock, AZ, then managed ranches in Southeastern New Mexico before beginning an Agricultural Management Specialist career with USDA. He later earned two appraisal accreditations with the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and became a USDA Chief Appraiser for Arizona and Hawaii. After retiring from USDA, he opened his own appraisal business specializing in farms, ranches, and commercial ag properties. In 2022, he retired from appraising and began composing Cowboy Poetry and Humorous Cowboy Stories. He makes his home with his wife Maggie in Willcox, Arizona.

Book excerpt: David Ballantine's debut novel Chalk's Woman, is a story about freedom, liberation, and love. Set in the violent backdrop of the waning months of the Civil War, Chalk's Woman addresses violence and redemption as seen through the eyes of a girl maturing into a woman. Ann, a fourteen-year-old girl, wakes up after a terrible explosion in a make-shift hospital during the waning months of the Civil War--her house no longer stands and her mother is dead, and a young Dr. Frazier amputated her arm in order to to prevent infection. . Homeless and an orphaned, Ann feels her only option is to travel west. She leaves Vicksburg on the Santa Fe Trail and meets a troupe of orphaned children like herself and joins up with them. Together they fight against the hardships of the wild frontier: abominable weather, savage Indians, and starvation all the way to Kansas where they meet and, much to his chagrin, fall in love with Chalk. Chalk's not the nicest of men, and he sure does have a drinking problem, but from the moment Chalk and Ann see each other, they know their lives will forever be entwined. Download or read book Aching for Greatness written by Tanner Kalina and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2024-09-13 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tanner Kalina was destined for an acting career in Hollywood but couldn’t escape the nagging feeling that the limelight would never be enough; after all, neither was baseball stardom, stand-up comedy, or the thrill of surfing. No matter his pursuit, he was always haunted by the reality that booking the part, winning the award, or catching the perfect wave (you name it) would never quite satisfy him. In Aching for Greatness: Discover God’s Love in the Restless Search for More, Kalina shares how his restless search for more led him to the realization that God is the only one who can ever truly fulfill the longings in his heart. Kalina didn’t change everything about his life overnight, but he did commit to giving Jesus a real chance, going all in and no longer walking with one foot in and one foot out. Inspired by the early Christians after Pentecost, the men and women who “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers” (Acts 2:42), Kalina shares how these four spiritual practices became a model for developing intimacy with Jesus: Learning about faith Finding healthy fellowship Embracing the sacraments Spending time in prayer Chances are, this restless search for more is something you can relate to, something you’ve experienced in your own life. When those empty feelings lead you to ask, “Why do I feel so alone? Why don’t I feel fulfilled?,” Kalina encourages you not to feel ashamed or defeated but to realize that acknowledging how you feel is the first step to a life filled with greater joy, connection, and peace. So, what’s your next step? Are you ready to find what you’ve been looking for? Aching for Greatness will inspire you to set out on the adventure that only a deep, personal knowledge of God can offer. With a two-thousand-year-old roadmap to follow and the conviction that nothing aside from an intimate relationship with God will bring lasting peace, you’re sure to discover God’s powerful love.
