Depuis une vingtaine d’années, les études attestent le rôle de cellules immunitaires du cerveau non seulement dans la construction et le fonctionnement de l’activité cérébrale, mais aussi dans l’apparition de pathologies neurodégénératives et psychiatriques. Il apparaît donc essentiel de cultiver une approche systémique qui vise à considérer le cerveau dans sa dynamique d’évolution et dans le contexte plus général du corps. Cette approche, qui cherche également à connaître l’origine des maladies, est une source d’espoir pour l’émergence de nouvelles voies thérapeutiques. Neurobiologiste, Sonia Garel dirige l’équipe Développement et plasticité du cerveau à l’Institut de biologie de l’École normale supérieure (ENS) à Paris. Depuis 2020, elle est professeure au Collège de France, titulaire de la chaire Neurobiologie et immunité.
