Book excerpt: Professor Piers Knight is the Brooklyn Museum's very own Indiana Jones. His specialties include lost civilizations, arcane cultures, and more than a little bit of the history of magic and mysticism. What his contemporaries don't know is that in addition to being a scholar of all these topics, he is also proficient in the uses of magical artifacts. Knight receives a chilling message from Tian Lu, a former lover and an agent for the Chinese government. Years ago, they made a frightening discovery at an archeological dig when out of the depths rose... a living, fire-breathing dragon. Now, the dragons are waking from their slumber before their scheduled time. And one particularly diabolical dragon is set on eliminating the others and taking over the world. As civilization plunges into panic, Knight, Lu, Knight's seventeen-year-old techie intern George Rainert, and an untrustworthy dragon ally must use all their resources-- magical and otherwise--to stop the destruction before it's too late. Download or read book The Greatest Knight written by Thomas Asbridge and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renowned scholar Thomas Asbridge brings to life medieval England’s most celebrated knight, William Marshal—providing an unprecedented and intimate view of this age and the legendary warrior class that shaped it. Caught on the wrong side of an English civil war and condemned by his father to the gallows at age five, William Marshal defied all odds to become one of England’s most celebrated knights. Thomas Asbridge’s rousing narrative chronicles William’s rise, using his life as a prism to view the origins, experiences, and influence of the knight in British history. In William’s day, the brutish realities of war and politics collided with romanticized myths about an Arthurian “golden age,” giving rise to a new chivalric ideal. Asbridge details the training rituals, weaponry, and battle tactics of knighthood, and explores the codes of chivalry and courtliness that shaped their daily lives. These skills were essential to survive one of the most turbulent periods in English history—an era of striking transformation, as the West emerged from the Dark Ages. A leading retainer of five English kings, Marshal served the great figures of this age, from Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine to Richard the Lionheart and his infamous brother John, and was involved in some of the most critical phases of medieval history, from the Magna Carta to the survival of the Angevin/Plantagenet dynasty. Asbridge introduces this storied knight to modern readers and places him firmly in the context of the majesty, passion, and bloody intrigue of the Middle Ages. The Greatest Knight features 16 pages of black-and-white and color illustrations.

Book excerpt: On location in Scotland for a film shoot, stuntwoman Cat Terril is waiting to film an action scene when she takes a stroll through the ancient castle that is their set. Then she meets an old man in black robes who gives her a set of keys and directs her to "follow your heart." Thinking it is a harmless prank designed by fellow stuntmen, Cat follows the old man?s direction to a locked door around which swirls a strange, lavender mist. Using the set of keys, she opens the door, steps into the mist and falls, literally, into a frigid lake in thirteenth century Scotland. There was no ?harmless prank? involved. Cat is in desperate peril, finding herself suddenly the hostage of vicious, brutal clan leader, Calum Mackay. To obtain clemency from the Scottish king, the renegade Mackay must give his daughter, Brianna, to Englishman Roderic de Montwain in marriage. Brianna, however, in love with another, has run away. And Cat bears a striking resemblance to Mackay?s absent daughter. It is unbelievable enough to find herself in medieval Scotland. It is beyond comprehension to find herself abruptly married to a stranger. A stranger, moreover, who unlocks a passion and sensuality within her Cat never suspected she harbored. And Roderic, who has vowed to never lose his heart, finds himself falling for the mysterious, flame-haired bride he has taken to his bed. A bride some say is mad and others claim is an imposter.

Download or read book Confirmation written by Barna William Donovan and published by World Castle Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2018-07-16 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE EVIDENCE OF ANOTHER WORLD IS HERE… In Mount Shasta City, California. In New Jersey. In San Diego. Then in Scotland, in Italy, and Cairo. In dozens of locations around the world, 20-ton granite globes suddenly appear. They usually turn up overnight, sometimes in remote locations and other times in the middle of cities in places no one could have put them without detection. For the first time, the world is witnessing a truly unexplainable phenomenon. AND THE THREAT IS REAL… As Rick Ballantine and Cornelia Oxenburg, cast members of the low-rent supernatural reality show “Confirmation: Investigations of the Unexplained,” quickly realize, the globes’ greatest effect is the way they make people speculate about their origins and purpose. Some think the globes are placed by aliens. Others think it’s all a hoax. Many more fear sinister government conspiracies behind it all. But each of these points of view believes they’re absolutely right…and others who disagree are dead wrong…and dangerous…and must be dealt with by any means necessary! Before the true, incredible origin of the globes is finally revealed, the “Confirmation” cast comes to see the extremes people are capable of when their beliefs are challenged and threatened…even in their own group.
Download or read book The Drone Show Celebrating Vegas Golden Knights 2023 Stanley Cup Championship written by David Heath and published by David Heath. This book was released on with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Saturday, June 17th, 2023; The Vegas Golden Knights celebrated with their adoring fans at Toshiba Plaza just east of T-Mobile Arena. Unbeknownst to us, a drone show had been planned, paid for, and was already in the works for us revelers below. The drone show contractor was the amazing folks and UAS/UAV pilots from Sky Elements USA! Personally, I was expecting a ton of crazy fireworks. However, I spotted just over the Toshiba Plaza Parking Structure the drones en route to their airborne stage. I started flying drones in 2015. I have been a tenured drone (UAS UAV) pilot for 8.5 years. I consider myself a seasoned veteran when it comes to dynamic drone aerial videography. I had seen drone shows that were spectacular at the Disney World theme parks and Universal Orlando. They used to have large screens placed around the park and viewing areas. They projected video on sheets of fountain water and the leaves of the nearby trees, which looks rather slick. Then I saw an animated Disney one with the infamous animated characters “goofing around” in the night sky. I was driving the I-4 corridor coming back from Clearwater Beach, FL; and I saw another one that looked like Universal Orlando’s as I drove past the attractions. It was very cool, but the Disney drone show was slightly better. This was five years ago approximately when I attended or viewed these shows in Florida. None were as sensational as 6/17/23. You can actually see individual tree leaves and dark/unlit drones in the sky in this Ultra High Definition video captured. If you are patient when loading your video, The 4K UHD playback experience will be well worth it on a compatible screen. I also included a short biography of my experience piloting drones since 2015. My tenth drone is a DJI drone. My favorite drone to fly and perform aerial video capture with, in 4K UHD mind you, was my Yuneec Typhoon Q450. The drone I piloted a dozen times over South Beach, Middle Beach, and North Beach in Miami Beach, FL was my Yuneec Typhoon Q450. I hope that this becomes a loved 4K UHD video that can be considered a time capsule hockey fan gem. 'Go Knights Go!' Defeat The Fortress Dragon with a REPEAT championship title next season in The 2024 Realm of Knights on ice! "We GOT the Cup!" baby...
