Book excerpt: CBD (Cannabidiol) is a compound found in the Cannabis plant. It can be used in several different ways including vaping, tinctures, capsules, and edibles.Unlike its close relative, THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is completely non-psychoactive. This allows us to benefit from the many health properties of the Cannabis plant without the negative side effects of "getting high."Because of this, CBD became a very popular option for those seeking a natural alternative to treat conditions such as chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, PTSD, epilepsy and other mental disorders. At first, many were skeptical, thinking that a natural compound, let alone a Cannabis-compound, could effectively treat such a wide range of conditions. But as medical researchers learned more, and the stories from tens of thousands of people began to stack up, the truth was undeniable. According to some statistics, at least 7.6 million people die each year from cancer throughout the world. 4 million of those people are between the ages of 30 and 69 at the time of their death. CBD works. For starters, CBD inherits many of the medicinal properties of Cannabis such as being anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiolytic. This allows it to provide natural stress, anxiety and pain relief. But this alone is not what allows CBD to benefit so many conditions. What allows it to effectively treat so many conditions, and maintain health and wellness in the body, is how the cannabinoids found in CBD interact with receptors throughout our body.In 1988, the first cannabinoid receptor was discovered in the brain of a rat. Researchers found that these receptors reacted specifically to THC, and were found primarily found in regions of the brain responsible for mental and physiological processes such as memory, high cognition, emotion, and motor coordination. Two years later, in 1993, the second cannabinoid receptor was found as part of the immune and central nervous systems. It was then that researchers started to realize that they may have been onto something, but these receptors were only found in rodents, so what is the big deal right?Fast forward to 1995, researchers discovered that these receptors, now officially referred to as the CB1 receptor and CB2 receptor were found not only in rats, but within thousands of other species, including humans. Thanks to advancements in technology and knowledge and tons of clinical trials, researchers were able to reverse engineer what they discovered, trace back through the metabolic pathways of various cannabinoids, and uncover an entirely unknown signaling system between the CB1 and CB2 receptors in our bodies and receptors found in Cannabis compounds, which they called "endocannabinoids."Due to the role of endocannabinoids in this system, the system was officially named the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).As researchers learned more about the ECS, they discovered that it was a vital component in maintaining the body's homeostasis, which is the ideal balance between interdependent elements in the body.To give you an idea on how the ECS helps maintain homeostasis, Let me give you an example. When we become stressed, our mind releases cortisol, which is the compound responsible for how we feel when we are stressed. Cortisol can be helpful when we need to react quickly to a dangerous situation; however too much disrupts the natural balance of our body and mind can result in serious health problems. When certain endocannabinoids are introduced into the body, it not only helps provide stress relief, it helps manage our perception of stress so that we can look at the situation with a clear mind, and make the best decision. With all the scientific jargon, this last section may have been a little confusing. So just to clarify... Scientists discovered that there are systems in our bodies that are solelydependenton their interaction with cannabinoids, and these systems are part of vital functions in our bodies.Basically, our bodies were designed to work with cannabinoids, and they can even be considered as essential to our overall health and wellness.

Book CBD Oil for Lung Cancer Experience the Healing Power of CBD Oil as Effective Therapy for Lung Cancer

Download or read book CBD Oil for Lung Cancer Experience the Healing Power of CBD Oil as Effective Therapy for Lung Cancer written by Michel Pollann MD and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-02-18 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lung cancer occurs when a malignant (cancerous) tumor grows inside the lungs, in structures such as the bronchi (small tubes that connect the windpipe to the inner surfaces of the lungs where gas transfer takes place). Like many other types of cancer, lung cancer is capable of spreading (metastasizing) to other parts of the body. In this case, cancer beginning in the lungs most commonly spreads to the brain, bones, adrenal glands and liver, via any of three mechanisms: direct extension, via the blood vessels, or via the lymph system. Direct extension occurs when a tumor grows rapidly in size such that it begins to touch an adjacent organ or structure, and then begins to penetrate itself into that adjacent organ or structure. Tumor cells are also able to get into the blood and lymph circulatory systems and travel, one by one, to distant structures.Lung cancer is now the most prevalent form of cancer affecting Americans with an estimated 222,500 new cases every year, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS, 2010). Beyond being the most common form of cancer, lung cancer is also often difficult to treat. As a result, lung cancer is the most deadly cancer with roughly 160,000 Americans dying from it every year. This is about 30% of all cancer deaths! (ACS, 2010).Although lung cancer is difficult to treat and cure, it is for the most part preventable. Lifestyle choices can be made which can almost eliminate your risk for getting the disease. Your decision to stop smoking and to eat a healthy diet featuring plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables can greatly decrease your risk.Cannabis oil is a thick, sticky substance composed of cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD, which is obtained from cannabis flowers using a solvent extraction procedure. It is the most concentrated form of cannabis products, which makes cannabis oil the most powerful. The oil can be vaporized into the lungs, ingested orally, applied topically or used as a suppository. It can also be mixed with creams or salves for beauty treatments, and other external uses. The cannabis plant originated from Central Asia, and is one of the oldest, mental stimulating drugs known to mankind. The beginnings of its use are difficult to trace, since the plant was cultivated and consumed long before the appearance of writing. According to archeological discoveries, the cannabis plant has been known in China at least since around 4000 BC.Cannabis, particularly cannabis oil, is a popular topic. Understandably, many people want to try anything that may help treat their own, or a loved one's, cancer - particularly if things are not going well with conventional treatments. Cannabis oil is only one of a number of treatments people might come across. Cannabis oil can contain varying amounts of CBD and THC.Some of the diseases and conditions that cannabis oil has been used for include: Crohn's disease, diabetes, gout, pain relief, glaucoma, migraines, Dravet syndrome, asthma, Doose syndrome, epilepsy, anorexia, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, opioid dependence, strokes, head trauma, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, HIV, dementia and - what I will be focusing on -Lung cancer.CBD oil does not contain THC and therefore does not have any psychoactive effects. It can be sold in many countries of the world as long as it is sold as a food supplement and the sellers are not making any claim about its medicinal properties. There are a number of examples where people say that using CBD oil has had a dramatic effect on their health. These are testimony to the efficacy of CBD Oil as an alternative therapy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some people suffer from chronic, debilitating disorders for which no conventional treatment brings relief. Can marijuana ease their symptoms? Would it be breaking the law to turn to marijuana as a medication? There are few sources of objective, scientifically sound advice for people in this situation. Most books about marijuana and medicine attempt to promote the views of advocates or opponents. To fill the gap between these extremes, authors Alison Mack and Janet Joy have extracted critical findings from a recent Institute of Medicine study on this important issue, interpreting them for a general audience. Marijuana As Medicine? provides patientsâ€"as well as the people who care for themâ€"with a foundation for making decisions about their own health care. This empowering volume examines several key points, including: Whether marijuana can relieve a variety of symptoms, including pain, muscle spasticity, nausea, and appetite loss. The dangers of smoking marijuana, as well as the effects of its active chemical components on the immune system and on psychological health. The potential use of marijuana-based medications on symptoms of AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, and several other specific disorders, in comparison with existing treatments. Marijuana As Medicine? introduces readers to the active compounds in marijuana. These include the principal ingredient in Marinol, a legal medication. The authors also discuss the prospects for developing other drugs derived from marijuana's active ingredients. In addition to providing an up-to-date review of the science behind the medical marijuana debate, Mack and Joy also answer common questions about the legal status of marijuana, explaining the conflict between state and federal law regarding its medical use. Intended primarily as an aid to patients and caregivers, this book objectively presents critical information so that it can be used to make responsible health care decisions. Marijuana As Medicine? will also be a valuable resource for policymakers, health care providers, patient counselors, medical faculty and studentsâ€"in short, anyone who wants to learn more about this important issue.

Book Extensive Guide to the Perfect CBD Oil for Liver Cancer

Download or read book Extensive Guide to the Perfect CBD Oil for Liver Cancer written by Dr Patrick Solomon and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-04 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than 33,000 cases of liver cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year. It affects more men than women. The vast majority of liver cancer occurs in people older than 45. Worldwide, this disease is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths. Liver cancer, as the name suggests, is a type of cancer that begins in the liver. It should be noted that there is primary liver cancer and secondary liver cancer. Primary liver cancer means the cancer cells first started growing in the liver itself. Over time, these cells can travel across the body through the lymphatic system or the blood and infect other organs of the body. Once other organs are infected and new cancer cells grow, this is known as "secondary cancer." However, the type of cancer cells found in the other organ is still the same as that of primary cancer. It is important to know the difference because the treatment used for cancer will be based on the type of primary cancer. For example, secondary lung cancer that has spread and affected the liver will still be treated using treatments for lung cancer. There is no such thing as routine liver cancer. Every patient's liver cancer is different, with different, individually unique genes and molecules driving each person's specific cancer. The liver is the largest internal organ in the body. It is located on the right side of the abdomen under the lung and is divided into lobes and segments. The liver performs many vital functions such as storing nutrients and filtering and breaking down toxins in the blood. Medical cannabis and cancer is a topic that attracts much attention in the medical community. Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD have already received much praise from patients and physicians for the effective treatment of side effects such as nausea, vomiting and pain. However, research shows that these cannabinoids hide much more power in themselves.Research into the effects of cannabinoids on cancer dates back to the late 1980s, with some studies showing that THC is able to stop the maturation process of damaged cultured liver cells. Since then, an increasing number of studies are trying to capture how cannabinoids can help cure liver cancer with cannabis oil.

Book The Health Effects of Cannabis and Cannabinoids

Download or read book The Health Effects of Cannabis and Cannabinoids written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant changes have taken place in the policy landscape surrounding cannabis legalization, production, and use. During the past 20 years, 25 states and the District of Columbia have legalized cannabis and/or cannabidiol (a component of cannabis) for medical conditions or retail sales at the state level and 4 states have legalized both the medical and recreational use of cannabis. These landmark changes in policy have impacted cannabis use patterns and perceived levels of risk. However, despite this changing landscape, evidence regarding the short- and long-term health effects of cannabis use remains elusive. While a myriad of studies have examined cannabis use in all its various forms, often these research conclusions are not appropriately synthesized, translated for, or communicated to policy makers, health care providers, state health officials, or other stakeholders who have been charged with influencing and enacting policies, procedures, and laws related to cannabis use. Unlike other controlled substances such as alcohol or tobacco, no accepted standards for safe use or appropriate dose are available to help guide individuals as they make choices regarding the issues of if, when, where, and how to use cannabis safely and, in regard to therapeutic uses, effectively. Shifting public sentiment, conflicting and impeded scientific research, and legislative battles have fueled the debate about what, if any, harms or benefits can be attributed to the use of cannabis or its derivatives, and this lack of aggregated knowledge has broad public health implications. The Health Effects of Cannabis and Cannabinoids provides a comprehensive review of scientific evidence related to the health effects and potential therapeutic benefits of cannabis. This report provides a research agendaâ€"outlining gaps in current knowledge and opportunities for providing additional insight into these issuesâ€"that summarizes and prioritizes pressing research needs.
