Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ex marks the murder scene…or does it? New relationships can be fraught with emotional missteps. Charity Hughes’s awkward encounter with Shelby Howard, Noah Jenkins’s ex, at his front door certainly qualifies, but as they’re clearing up that sort-of-minor misunderstanding, a new challenge enters Charity’s shop. A witch’s cat familiar pining for the impossible — kittens of her own. The kitty conundrum takes a back seat when a frantic Shelby calls with a rather pointed problem. An ex-fiancé dead on her living room floor, run through with an antique sword. Now the prime suspect, Shelby begs Charity for help to prove her innocence. There’s just one problem. Using magic to solve the case risks outing her as a witch to the public...including Noah. But Charity brings all her somewhat-inconsistent abilities to bear in the investigation, even calling on Milo, the spaniel familiar, to nose around. But it’s the Tarot that cuts through the static toward a culprit who's definitely not an ex-anything. It's someone who opens a whole new kit and caboodle of lies. Note: Cauldrons and Cats is Book 2 in USA Today bestselling author Christine Pope’s “Familiar Spirits” series. Contains a cat familiar with mommy fever, a doggo familiar pining for his feline friend, and a killer who does it old school — up close and personal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lavishly illustrated book that offers an in-depth look at the cultural practices surrounding the tradition of collecting ancient bronzes in China during the 18th and 19th centuries In ancient China (2000–221 b.c.) elaborate bronze vessels were used for rituals involving cooking, drinking, and serving food. This fascinating book not only examines the cultural practices surrounding these objects in their original context, but it also provides the first in-depth study tracing the tradition of collecting these bronzes in China. Essays by international experts delve into the concerns of the specialized culture that developed around the vessels and the significant influence this culture, with its emphasis on the concept of antiquity, had on broader Chinese society. While focusing especially on bronze collections of the 18th and 19th centuries, this wide-ranging catalogue also touches on the ways in which contemporary artists continue to respond to the complex legacy of these objects. Packed with stunning photographs of exquisitely crafted vessels, Mirroring China’s Past is an enlightening investigation into how the role of ancient bronzes has evolved throughout Chinese history.

Book Cats and Conservationists

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dara M. Wald
  • Publisher : Purdue University Press
  • Release : 2020-03-15
  • ISBN : 1557538883
  • Pages : 198 pages

Download or read book Cats and Conservationists written by Dara M. Wald and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-15 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cats and Conservationists is the first multidisciplinary analysis of the heated debate about free-roaming cats. The debate pits conservationists against cat lovers, who disagree both on the ecological damage caused by the cats and the best way to manage them. An impassioned and spirited conflict, it also sheds light on larger questions about how we interpret science, incorporate diverse perspectives, and balance competing values in order to encourage constructive dialogue on contentious social and environmental issues. On one side of the cat debate stand many environmentalists, especially birders and conservation organizations, who believe that outdoor cats seriously threaten native wildlife. On the other side are many animal welfare advocates, who believe that outdoor cats generally do not pose a major ecological threat and that it is possible for cats and wildlife to coexist. They believe that it is possible, mainly through trap-neuter-return projects (TNR), to keep free-roaming cat populations in check without killing large numbers of cats. Careful analysis suggests that there remain important questions about the science on both cat predation and TNR effectiveness. Yet both sides of the conflict insist that the evidence is clear-cut. This false certainty contributes to conflict between conservationists and cat lovers, and obscures common goals that could generate constructive discussions and collaborative efforts among scientists, policymakers, conservationists, and animal welfare advocates. Cats and Conservationists aims to facilitate such collaboration in order to manage outdoor cats and minimize the damage they cause. It also offers models for constructive debates about the public role of science in other polarized public conflicts over science and environmental topics.
