Download or read book Caught By The Police The Life Story of Dr Anandswarup Gupta written by Anandswarup Gupta and published by Roli Books Private Limited. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Caught by the Police is the story of a talented, public-spirited and erudite man, with a multidimensional personality, a republican bent of mind, Indian values and English sensibilities. After a brilliant academic career, he joined the Royal Air Force in 1934 at the age of 19; unfortunately, he was forced to leave on contrived medical grounds. He got into the Indian Police due to a providential combination of circumstances and events, somewhat against his inclination. But once in it, he gave his all to his profession. A brave and intrepid police officer, he went on to become a celebrated police historian. He also wrote spiritual poetry, which forms a part of the book and, interestingly, could recite Shakespeare, Ghalib and the Bhagvad Gita with equal facility. Spanning a century of changing times, this book provides a unique account of the last decades of British Rule and the emergence of a new India, woven into the story of an extraordinary life lived in ordinary places, and a compelling family chronicle.

Book excerpt: Review "If you want to wander the whole beautiful universe then wander in the warm fierce veins of her heart, you would slave there forever." Perfect thought for alchemist "She." She wanted to change the hypocrisy thinking of the people. She wanted to change the scenario of the whole society. She wanted to terminate the agony in her soul. She wanted to censure the discriminated thoughts of the entire world. From the Author S- She H- Heals E- Everything Faith is the strong base of the relationship. The relationship never exists without trust, to continue the relationship without trust is just a compromise. "Relationship is the colourful rainbow of trust, love, pain, emotions, compassion, beautiful eyes and a perfect sharp sword of madness hold by both of them tightly." "She would become the cacophony for the society, under which the society will become deaf one day." "Don't try to judge her calibre; she is more innocent than nature but silently brutal for a cruel heart." "She is responsible for everyone's life, but no one is ready to give her own life" this is the real hypocrisy of our double-faced society." From the Inside Flap She was not raped "She was raped by the same society, which was wandering for her justice." This is the biggest hypocrisy I have ever seen. Why don't we understand this system? Why are we failing every day to create a perfect clean society? Why are we trying to change others? "She was not raped; instead the society was raped for its hypocrisy and stereotypes." We are only creating echoes, infant negative echoes in the society; the voice of her is still burning with the bright candles. "We want change, but we resist to change." This is the real problem of the society. Change yourself instead of changing others. There is a need for mental revolution to create a new society which would be safe for her to live peacefully. "The society is only listening to the echoes of its voice, which has been creating every moment when we fight for her." She would love the change the change that can change the society the move which would end the evil souls of the community the change that will bring new sun to the horizon for her. "She is still waiting." "Change yourself is the best way to end this hypocrisy." -A positive dynamism. From the Back Cover "She is knotty for an indigence heart, lechery for the rich men, irony for a selfish heart and mirth for an alchemist's heart." "She is solitary in this crowded world, where no one is capable of listening to the heartbeat of her, thoughts of her, yelling voice of her"

Book Ritual Worship of the Great Goddess

Download or read book Ritual Worship of the Great Goddess written by Hillary Rodrigues and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During a nine-day period every autumn, Hindus in India and throughout the world worship the Great Goddess, Durgā--the formidable deity who is loved like a mother. One of the most dramatic and popular of these celebrations is the Durgā Pūjā, a rite noted for its visual pageantry, ritual complexity, and communal participation. In this book, Hillary Peter Rodrigues describes the Bengali style of Durgā Pūjā practiced in the sacred city of Banaras from beginning to end. A romanization of the Sanskrit litany is included along with an English translation. In addition to the liturgical description, Rodrigues provides information on the rite's component elements and mythic aspects. There are interpretive sections on puja, the Great Goddess, women's roles in the ritual, and the socio-cultural functions of the ritual. Rodrigues maintains that the Durgā Pūjā is a rite of cosmic rejuvenation, of empowerment at both the personal and social levels, and a rite that orchestrates manifestations of the feminine, both Divine and human.

Book A Life in Diplomacy

Download or read book A Life in Diplomacy written by Maharajakrishna Rasgotra and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An insider's account of the personalities and policies that shaped Indian diplomacy Former foreign secretary, Maharajakrishna Rasgotra joined India's external affairs ministry when Jawaharlal Nehru, Girija Shankar Bajpai, Sardar Patel were—with a mix of pragmatism and hope—creating the foreign policy of the newly independent nation. This was taking place as the Cold War slid into the subcontinent and complex relationships with India's neighbours—China, Pakistan and Nepal—were taking shape. Looking back on those crucial years with a discerning eye for the interplay of personalities—Nehru, Krishna Menon, or S. Radhakrishnan, for instance—Rasgotra assesses their influence on events and their impact on the evolution of Indian diplomacy. For over three decades Rasgotra's assignments took him to Nepal, Britain and France, among other countries, as well as twice to the United States. His account of Nixon and Kissinger, and the mix of truculence and persuasion in their dealings with Mrs Gandhi in the run up to the 1971 Bangladesh war, sheds new light on the events of that time. His tenure as foreign secretary covered a period of great change and A Life in Diplomacy provides a ringside view of the beginnings of ethnic violence in Sri Lanka, the last years of the Cold War, the negotiations on the formation of SAARC, Mrs Gandhi's assassination and the Bhopal gas disaster. This is a compelling, authoritative account of a personal and professional journey; a reflective look at the leaders, events and forces that formed relations between India and the world over fifty years.

Book The Child and the State in India

Download or read book The Child and the State in India written by Myron Weiner and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India has the largest number of non-schoolgoing working children in the world. Why has the government not removed them from the labor force and required that they attend school, as have the governments of all developed and many developing countries? To answer this question, this major comparative study first looks at why and when other states have intervened to protect children against parents and employers. By examining Europe of the nineteenth century, the United States, Japan, and a number of developing countries, Myron Weiner rejects the argument that children were removed from the labor force only when the incomes of the poor rose and employers needed a more skilled labor force. Turning to India, the author shows that its policies arise from fundamental beliefs, embedded in the culture, rather than from economic conditions. Identifying the specific values that elsewhere led educators, social activists, religious leaders, trade unionists, military officers, and government bureaucrats to make education compulsory and to end child labor, he explains why similar groups in India do not play the same role.
