Book The Integrated Medical Library

Download or read book The Integrated Medical Library written by Ms. Helis Miido and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-04-15 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1991, Library automation has advanced at such a rapid pace within the last few years that librarians who have been limited by either budget or hardware constraints are today able to automate at least some library functions. Even though presentations at meetings describing individual efforts have been published in the literature, there has not been a comprehensive text discussing the status of integration at all levels of library management as it exists today. The Integrated Medical Library addresses this need by presenting the results of a survey of automated systems currently used in medical libraries as a basis on which to discuss various methods for integrating these systems. This includes serials, cataloging, circulation, acquisitions, internal database management systems, external database search procedures, and management and financial control. The book emphasizes current practices and procedures and proposes methods for libraries to improve their performance and services. Part I defines an integrated online library system and describes the study design and analysis of results. Part II describes commercially available integrated online library systems currently used by medical libraries. Part III discusses the specialized integrated online library systems of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the Swedish Planning and Rationalization Institute for the Health and Social Services. Part IV describes ad hoc integrated functions currently used by medical libraries, while Part V discusses the various means of integration.

Book Catalogue Raisonn of the Medical Library of the Pennsylvania Hospital Classic Reprint

Download or read book Catalogue Raisonn of the Medical Library of the Pennsylvania Hospital Classic Reprint written by Emil Fischer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Catalogue Raisonné of the Medical Library of the Pennsylvania Hospital The present Catalogue is an entirely new work, and has been compiled independently of its predecessors. For the old plan of disposing the works in the alphabetical order of the names of their authors, a classified arrangement according to subjects has been substituted. The advantages of a catalogue raisonné are so evi dent, that it is hardly necessary to particularize them. Not only the student who is anxious to familiarize himself with the depth and breadth of medical literature, but also the medical writer in his laborious research for authorities which he might consult on the subject of his investigation, will derive material aid from a work of this kind. For the classification used in the present Catalogue, the com piler is essentially indebted to the Catalogue Raisonne' of the Library of the Medical Society of Edinburgh, the arrangement of which has been followed out as far as some difference in the com pass and character of the two libraries would permit.
