Book Caseless Ammunition Heat Transfer

Download or read book Caseless Ammunition Heat Transfer written by D. E. Adams and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat transfer studies were performed for small and medium caliber caseless ammunition (1) to evaluate the thermal performance of existing fixtures and ammunition, (2) devise and evaluate mathematical techniques by which the thermal behavior of future weapons may be predicted and problem areas identified prior to weapon design and (3) obtain information which can lead to improvement in future weapons and ammunition. The study continues previous work on 5.56mm and 27mm caseless ammunition. Some measurements of the heating of an M16 rifle firing cased 5.56mm ammunition are initially reported as a basis of comparison of caseless ammunition. The primary emphasis of the 5.56mm testing is directed towards High Ignition Temperature Propellant (HITP) rounds. Firing tests and laboratory cook-off tests were conducted with HITP and analysis was conducted to evaluate the potential of caseless ammunition during burst firing schedules. The 27mm evaluations consist of the results of single-shot and rapid-fire testing, laboratory cook-off tests, and predictions of gun heating to be expected during rapid-fire bursts. A mathematical model was developed which provides an adequate tool by which the thermal effects of rapid fire may be predicted based upon single-shot testing. (Author).

Book A Heat Transfer Study in Folded Ammunition Gun Tube Chambers

Download or read book A Heat Transfer Study in Folded Ammunition Gun Tube Chambers written by P. L. Versteegen and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time dependent heat transfer analyses have been performed for folded gun tube chambers in that part of the gun tube that is sandwiched between the folded part of the shell casing and the projectile. The asymmetric configuration was believed to introduce 3-dimensional effects so that peak temperatures could not be determined adequately by 2-dimensional analyses. Calculations performed, however, showed that for the single round firing of a projectile a 1-dimensional representation could adequately estimate the peak temperature except for the interior corner region of the propellant capsule which required a 2-dimensional model. A representative set of time- and space-dependent gas temperatures and heat transfer coefficients for conventional unfolded ammunition was supplied by BRL. Maximum surface temperatures were found to occur at a region (named Location 13) near the origin of rifling. Data from this location was used for a 1-dimensional analysis of a non-corner region and a 2-dimensional analysis of a corner region. The calculated temperature rise for an SAE 4340 steel non-corner surface was 1003 deg C (1836 deg F). When a brass layer was used to simulate the cartridge case, the temperature rise was only 660 deg C (1220 deg F) for a non-corner region. However, for a corner region, the brass-coated surface temperature reached a maximum of 1099 deg C (2010 deg F). The results for the interior corner are only tentative because significant approximations were required to model the geometry and to specify the boundary conditions.

Book Unsteady Heat Transfer Analysis for Chosen Ammunition and Gun

Download or read book Unsteady Heat Transfer Analysis for Chosen Ammunition and Gun written by and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is being made by personnel of the Research Directorate, Weapons Laboratory, WECOM to establish a capability to perform overall heat transfer analysis for any given dimensions of a weapon and for any specified propellant characteristics. With respect to this goal, the propellant gas convective heat transfer problem was divided into five subproblems: generation of thermochemical properties for any given propellant; transient inviscid compressible flow through the gun barrel, core flow; transient viscous compressible flow on the bore surface, boundary layers; unsteady heat diffusion through the gun tube, and unsteady free convection and radiation outside the gun tube. An exact numerical solution for the unsteady, compressible, inviscid momentum and continuity equations by the method of characteristics was obtained.

Book Unsteady Heat Transfer Analysis for Any Ammunition Gun and Firing Schedule

Download or read book Unsteady Heat Transfer Analysis for Any Ammunition Gun and Firing Schedule written by and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The propellant gas convective heat transfer problem is divided into several subproblems: Generation of thermochemical properties for any chosen propellant; analysis of transient, inviscid, compressible flow through the gun barrel; analysis of unsteady, viscous, compressible flow with arbitrary pressure gradients on the bore surface; analysis of transient heat diffusion through single or multi-layer gun tubes; analysis of unsteady free convection and radiation around the gun tube; and control of a sequence of procedures due to the nature of unknown and transient boundary conditions and also due to coupling between the problems.

Book Caseless Ammunition

Download or read book Caseless Ammunition written by Fouad Sabry and published by One Billion Knowledgeable. This book was released on 2022-08-12 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Is Caseless Ammunition Caseless ammunition, also known as caseless cartridges, is a type of weapon-cartridge configuration that does away with the cartridge case. The cartridge case is the component of a weapon-cartridge that is typically responsible for holding the primer, propellant, and projectile together as a single unit. Instead of using a cartridge case, the propellant and primer are attached to the projectile in some other fashion, such as either inside or outside the projectile, depending on the arrangement. This eliminates the need for the cartridge case. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Caseless ammunition Chapter 2: Firearm Chapter 3: Cartridge (firearms) Chapter 4: Muzzle velocity Chapter 5: Grenade launcher Chapter 6: Heckler and Koch G11 Chapter 7: Cooking off Chapter 8: Rimfire ammunition Chapter 9: Sabot (firearms) Chapter 10: Gun barrel Chapter 11: Internal ballistics Chapter 12: Blank (cartridge) Chapter 13: Blowback (firearms) Chapter 14: Obturation Chapter 15: Rim (firearms) Chapter 16: 7.92?57mm Mauser Chapter 17: 7.5?55mm Swiss Chapter 18: Voere VEC-91 Chapter 19: Glossary of firearms terms Chapter 20: Lightweight Small Arms Technologies Chapter 21: Primer (firearms) (II) Answering the public top questions about caseless ammunition.
