Book Textbook of Abnormal Psychology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Textbook of Abnormal Psychology Classic Reprint written by Roy M. Dorcus and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-13 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Textbook of Abnormal Psychology Without reflecting any discredit on the pioneer treatises on this topic, it can fairly be said that the present volume marks the beginning of an epoch. In fact, I am strongly inclined to believe that the volume signalizes the beginning of the scientific era in abnormal psychology. The authors, it would appear, have produced a work which is in line with the foundations laid by Pierre Janet, and infused with the spirit of the great French pathologist. While the work of Janet has necessarily been restricted to the clinical aspects, the present authors have coordinated therewith the contributions of general and experimental psychology; thus producing a structure worthy of its foundation. I am impressed, in the first place, with the vast amount of materials collected in this volume. No other book has attempted such a task. Obviously, this is a sharp departure from the conventional type of psychology text, in which "easy steps for little feet" has become more and more the rule. In conjunction with the literature-references, which are of extraordinary definiteness, the book furnishes a starting point from which the really industrious student may branch out into any subtopic in this complicated field. In the second place, I am impressed with the critical balance of the book. Giving the various isms and theories their places, the authors avoid imposing on the reader either isms or emotional anti-isms (which is more than I can say for my own writings). Without being subjected to the stress of violent iconoclasm, the reader is prepared for immunity to both pseudo-psychological novelties and ancient superstitions. There are various points of interpretation, of course, on which I should take issue with the authors; and on some of these points I should possibly be right. These features of the presentation, however, increase my appreciation of, and respect for, the whole. The authors, and the psychological profession are to be congratulated on this magnum opus, which demonstrates, among other things, that scientifically minded psychiatrists and psychologists can work together in harmony and fruitfulness: for, it should be said, this book has a history which is not superficially obvious; and in that history, Dr. Chapman has played a part of no small importance. Download or read book Case Studies in Abnormal Psychology written by Kenneth N. Levy and published by SAGE Publications, Incorporated. This book was released on 2018-01-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Case Studies in Abnormal Psychology presents a broad range of cases drawn from the clinical experience of authors Kenneth N. Levy, Kristen M. Kelly, and William J. Ray to take readers beyond theory into real-life situations. The authors take a holistic approach by including multiple perspectives and considerations, apart from those of just the patient. Each chapter follows a consistent format: Presenting Problems and Client Description; Diagnosis and Case Formulation; Course of Treatment; Outcome and Prognosis/Treatment Follow-up; and Discussion Questions. Providing empirically supported treatments and long-term follow-up in many case studies gives students a deeper understanding of each psychopathology and the effects of treatment over time.

Book Case Studies of Mentally and Morally Abnormal Types Classic Reprint

Download or read book Case Studies of Mentally and Morally Abnormal Types Classic Reprint written by William Healy and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-04-16 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Case Studies of Mentally and Morally Abnormal Types The diagnosis, prognosis, and further history are not mentioned in order that there may be intimate consideration of the details to the end that the student shall gain qualifications through his own painstaking rendering of a verdict on the case. This is to be done especially in connection with class-room work, when there may be discussion of the registered facts as bearing on diagnosis and for predictability of the outlook, and where there may be a statement of what has really happened in the further history of such a case. The material has been collected under the endowment of the Juvenile Psychopathic Institute of Chicago. It is presented for professional use with the usual professional disguises of personali ties and places. In every case, however, there is an accurate representation of a type as such. The ground covered by the text books on mental defectives has, for the most part, been purposely avoided. The form of presentation is varied partly to accord with the order in which facts were practically obtainable. Book The Dissociation of a Personality

Download or read book The Dissociation of a Personality written by Morton Prince and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Dissociation of a Personality: A Biographical Study in Abnormal Psychology The present volume contains Parts I and II of a larger - work, "Problems in Abnormal Psychology," but it is complete in itself. It is a study of disintegrated personality, as exemplified by the very remarkable case of Miss Beauchamp. In this study I have (a) traced the development of the different personalities which originated through the disintegration of the normal self, and (b) shown their psychological relations to one another and to the normal self. By giving (c) a detailed account of the daily life of the personalities, after the manner of a biography, I have sought to show their behavior to the environment and the way in which a disintegrated personality can adapt itself to the circumstances of life, and how it fails to do so. Selections from recorded observations, many times in number those here given, have been made use of with the view of familiarizing the reader with the main phenomena, so that when we come to consider in another volume the psychological problems involved, we shall have a knowledge of the fundamental data. These phenomena have been briefly discussed in this volume as an introduction to a deeper study. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Studies in Abnormal Psychology, Vol. 1 Since 1t has been recognized, in the last few years, that, in addition to hysteria, psychasthenia also may occasion epileptiform seizures, the differential diagnosis has become even more difficult. It cannot too strongly be emphasized that the diagnosis epilepsy is justifiable only when all other diseases which are capable of inducing epileptiform attacks, particularly hysteria and psychasthenia, either positively can be excluded or recognized as associated conditions. For it is quite common to encounter patients in whom hysteria or psychasthenia have been superimposed upon an epileptic foundation, just as multiple sclerosis usually is complicated by hysteria.
