Book With Love

Download or read book With Love written by Arcelia Watson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-10-27 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been a joy to write this memoir as a legacy for my son Dennis and my daughter Susan and my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I have fantastic family and friends. I retired after 54 years as a public school teacher. I loved teaching eighthgraders. I feel that my students have given me more than I gave them. I have spent my years searching and growing and always trying to be a responsible person. I am living a charmed life. In my journey I have dealt with negatives such as alcoholism, divorce, death, codependency, and Alzheimer's. I am a child of an alcoholic; I married and divorced an alcoholic; I was a codependent. Alzheimer's is one of the cruelest diseases there is. The disease erased all that made my mom a unique human being. I hope my story can inspire. Sports have given me much pleasure. I love football, basketball, IRL racing, and NASCAR. My favorites are the Green Bay Packers, the Illini Dan Wheldon, Danica Patrick, Brett Favre, Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson. Traveling has been the most invigorating experience for me as I have traveled the US and the world. It was so neat to walk the Great Wall of China. I am living a very passionate, positive, and fulfilling life. It is not my age that defines me; it is what I do with my life. With love; my name is Arcelia.

Book excerpt: In Morocco, Marvine Howe, a former correspondent for The New York Times, presents an incisive account of the Moroccan kingdom and its people, past and present. She provides a frank portrait of the late King Hassan, whom she credits with laying the foundations of a modern state, and she highlights the pressures his successor King Mohammed VI has come under to transform the monarchy into a modern democracy. Howe addresses emerging issues--equal rights for women, the correction of glaring economic disparities--and asks the question: can this ancient Muslim kingdom embrace democracy in an era of deepening divisions between Islam and the West?

Book Love Bill

Download or read book Love Bill written by Jan Krulick-Belin and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2021-05-03 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long before becoming a museum curator, author Jan Krulick-Belin curated memories, photographs, and mementos of her father who died when she was just six. Her mother rarely spoke about him again, until a year before her own death, when she gave Jan a box of one hundred love letters he had written her during World War II. Love, Bill chronicles the true story of Krulick-Belin's life-changing pilgrimage of the heart to find the father she thought she'd lost forever. The letters lead her on an extraordinary journey following her father's actual footsteps during the war years, leading to unexpected discoveries from Morocco to Paris to upstate New York. She learns about her parents' great love story, about the war in North Africa, and about the fate of the Jews in Morocco, Germany, and France. Love, Bill offers a testament to the enduring power of determination, love, family, and the unbreakable bond between fathers and daughters.

Book Understanding Love through World Religions

Download or read book Understanding Love through World Religions written by Deacon Gary E. Templin and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-07-10 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God created the world to share his love with humanity. Because humanity, starting with Adam and Eve, did not live by God's principle of love, we live in a chaotic world today. I believe the world can live in peace if we only practice the God-given principle of love. You will see in reading this book that one's religious preference does not matter, only practicing the principle of love matters. After reading this book, I would hope the reader would start to practice and spread the principle of love and help to make this a better world for all of us to live, regardless of our religious views. God bless you. Deacon Gary

Book Chasing Matisse

    Book Details:
  • Author : James Morgan
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2007-11-01
  • ISBN : 1416590455
  • Pages : 290 pages

Download or read book Chasing Matisse written by James Morgan and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2007-11-01 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who hasn't had the fanthasy of leaving his or her old life behind to start over? What would happen if you gave up your job, city, state, and routine to move to another part of the world? Critically acclaimed writer and aspiring painter James Morgan does just that. Risking everything, he and his wife shed their old, settled life in a lovingly restored house in Little Rock, Arkansas, to travel in the footsteps of Morgan's hero, the painter Henri Matisse, and to find inspiration in Matisse's fierce struggle to live the life he knew he had to live. Part memoir, part travelogue, and part biography of Matisse, Chasing Matisse proves that you don't have to be wealthy to live the life you want; you just have to want it enough. Morgan's riveting journey of self-discovery takes him, and us, from the earthy, brooding Picardy of Matisse's youth all the way to the luminous Nice of the painter's final years. In between, Morgan confronts, with the notebook of a journalist and the sketchpad of an artist, the places that Matisse himself saw and painted: bustling, romantic Paris; windswept Belle-île off the Brittany coast; Corsica, with its blazing southern light; the Pyrénees village of Collouire, where color became explosive in Matisse's hands; exotic Morocco, land of the secret interior life; and across the sybaritic French Riviera to spiritual Vence and the hillside Villa Le Rêve -- the Dream -- where the mature artist created so many of his masterpieces. A journey from darkness to light, Chasing Matisse shows us how we can learn to see ourselves, others, and the world with fresh eyes. We look with Morgan out of some of the same windows through which Matisse himself found his subjects and take great heart from Matisse's indomitable, life-affirming spirit. For Matisse, living was an art, and he never stopped striving, never stopped creating, never stopped growing, never stopped reinventing himself. "The artist," he said, "must look at everything as though he were seeing it for the first time." That's the inspiring message of renewal that comes through on every page of Chasing Matisse. Funny, sad, and defiantly hopeful, this is a book that restores our faith in the possibility of dreams.

Book excerpt: From Joyce Carol Oates, the bestselling author of We Were the Mulvaneys, comes an epic family novel about the division between the permissible and the forbidden, between ordinary life and the secret places of the heart. Set in an industrial, working-class town in upstate New York, You Must Remember This is the story of the Stevicks: two parents trapped in a frustrating marriage; their idealistic, ambitious son, and fifteen-year-old Enid Maria, who becomes caught up in a secret sexual relationship with her uncle Felix, a professional boxer twice her age. A true and empathetic tale that merges love and violence, it is also a brilliant re-creation of a decade that worshiped conformity, one that tells of lives that break every convention in the search for meaning and fulfillment.

Book Culture and Customs of Morocco

Download or read book Culture and Customs of Morocco written by Raphael Chijioke Njoku and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2005-12-30 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moroccan culture today is a blend of Berber, African, Arab, Jewish, and European influences in an Islamic state. Morocco's strategic position at the tip of North Africa just below Spain has brought these cultures together through the centuries. The parallels with African and Middle Eastern countries and other Muslim cultures are drawn as the major topics are discussed, yet the uniqueness of Moroccan traditions, particularly those of the indigenous Berbers, stand out. The narrative emphasizes the evolving nature of the storied subcultures. With more exposure to Western-style education and pop culture, the younger generations are gradually turning away from the strict religious observances of their elders. General readers finally have a substantive resource for information on a country most known in the United States for the Humphrey Bogart classic Casablanca, images of the souks (markets), hashish, and Berber rugs. The strong introduction surveys the people, land, government, economy, educational system, and history. Most weight is given to modern history, with French colonial rule ending in 1956 and a succession of monarchs since then. The discussion of religion and worldview illuminates the Islamic base and Jewish communities but is also notable for the discussion of Berber beliefs in spirits. In the Literature and Media chapter, the oral culture of the Berbers and the new preference for Western-style education and use of French and even English are highlights. The Moroccans are renowned as skilled artisans, and their products are enumerated in the Art and Architecture/Housing chapter, along with the intriguing descriptions of casbahs and old quarters in the major cities. Moroccans are hospitable and family oriented, which is reflected in descriptions of their cuisine and social customs. Moroccan women seem to be somewhat freer than others in Muslim countries but the chapter on Gender Roles, Marriage, and Family shows that much progress is still needed. Ceremonies and celebrations are important cultural markers that bring communities together, and a wealth of religious, national, and family rites of passage, with accompanying music and dance, round out the cultural coverage.
