This fully revised new edition reflects the most recent evidence using the approved evidence-based medicine (EBM) guidelines and methodology. The text now places greater emphasis on GRADE—a transparent framework for developing and presenting summaries of evidence—to allow readers to easily evaluate the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations. The second edition offers a streamlined presentation and an improved standardized format emphasizing how evidence in each chapter directly affects clinical decisions. Incorporating a vast amount of new evidence, Evidence-Based Orthopedics: Features thoroughly revised and updated content, including a new chapter on pediatric orthopedics and new X-ray images Provides the evidence base for orthopedic surgery as well as pediatric orthopedics and orthopedic conditions requiring medical treatment Covers the different methods for most orthopedic surgical procedures, such as hip replacements, arthroscopy, and knee replacements Helps surgeons and orthopedic specialists achieve a uniform optimum standard through a condition-based approach Aligns with internationally accepted guidelines and best health economic principles Evidence-Based Orthopedics is an invaluable resource for orthopedic specialists, surgeons, trauma surgeons, trainees, and medical students.

Book Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Download or read book Carpal Tunnel Syndrome written by Morton Ledford and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common compressive focal neuropathy of the upper limb. Patients usually have symptoms of numbness, and weakness in the hand, with or without the wrist pain, which may radiate up to the forearm, resulting from compression of the median nerve at the wrist beneath the transverse carpal ligament. The diagnosis is mostly clinical and electrodiagnostic studies are usually performed to confirm the diagnosis and to grade the severity. The most important risk factor for CTS recognized over the years is environmental including repetitive movements of wrist or prolonged positioning of the wrist in extreme flexion or extension position and exposure to vibration. Besides the environmental factors, compression of the nerve can be due to external compression such as a tumor or osteoarthritic changes. Other medical factors that affect the volume of the tunnel also are important risk factors. Treatment of CTS falls under two categories: conservative or surgical. The objective of this book is to provide an overview of carpal tunnel syndrome with emphasis on the risk factors, clinical symptoms and evidence-based overview of treatments options for this common and disabling condition.

Book Compressive Neuropathies of the Upper Extremity

Download or read book Compressive Neuropathies of the Upper Extremity written by Dean G. Sotereanos and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting step-by-step procedures written by experts in the field, this comprehensive clinical guide discusses the diagnosis (electrodiagnostic and ultrasound) and management of compressive neuropathies of the upper extremity. Compressive (or compression) neuropathy, also known as entrapment neuropathy or trapped nerve, is a common condition of the upper extremity in which the nerves of the arm – median, ulnar and radial being the most common – are compressed, causing pain and discomfort as well as possible pathological and anatomical changes. Carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome are the most well-known and treated, with nerve release and decompression surgeries being the usual treatment, though the variety of neuropathies and management strategies goes beyond these conditions. Chapters included describe in detail the latest, cutting-edge management strategies for the various manifestations of compressive neuropathy of the hand and wrist – carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve syndrome, radial tunnel syndrome, pronator teres syndrome, Wartenberg’s syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome and suprascapular neuropathy – as well as revision carpal and cubital tunnel surgical treatment options. Plentiful intraoperative photos and detailed illustrations, along with clinical case material and pearls and pitfalls, make this the ideal resource for orthopedic, hand and plastic surgeons aiming for the most optimal outcomes.
