Most of the narrators in Part One are animals talking about themselves. You learn how dozens of animals live, eat, and survive through dialogue and description. Look, too, for inanimate objects to spring to life and talk about themselves: a houseplant, a stop sign, a dollar bill, and others. Part Two gives you traditional fictional stories with lively characters and believable or not-so-believable storylines. All of the stories leave you with a nugget of wisdom or a bit of a chuckle. Sprinkled throughout Part Two are a few short articles of general interest non-fiction. Whether you read the stories in order or at random, you will come away enriched with inspirational and encouraging accounts that stimulate your mind and nurture your soul.

Book My Cave My View

  • Author : Gary Torres
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2011-10
  • ISBN : 1467067083
  • Pages : 208 pages

Download or read book My Cave My View written by Gary Torres and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gary has used a Twain-like humor with a folksy small town snapshot of life to make us stop and reconsider our own life. He opens up with humor and tenderness that will bring laughter and tears from the same page as he paints pictures of the people, places, and activities that surround him. He and his dog Turbo, his too kind and loving wife, and four children are the innocents abroad on a raft made of love, pain, laughter, and hope that is floating the mighty Mississippi of life somewhere in the West. From his experience raising kids, fighting cancer, running marathons his insights are like barbs on a fence that grab hold of you. Each section of the book contains small snippets of life and insights that make the reader pause to laugh at the character and themselves. BATTLE OF THE SEXES: There it is...one blanket, one bed, two people. It is almost certain that someone is going to be cold tonight. Oh sure, we act cordial enough, remove our slippers, plump our pillows, shake the sheets, then position the mutual blanket and snuggle in for a good night's sleep; a wonderful ending to the age old battle of the sexes. A temporary truce of sorts, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY: "You drive me crazy." There was a time when my wife said those words, and that was a good thing. Now, when she says those words, it is with a different tone and a different meaning. It's more like, "YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!" And after being married and having kids I have come to decide that it is the little things that will eventually drive a person crazy. BAGS, CHAPSTICK, AND SHOPPING: I'm sitting here in my cave, talking to my dog, Turbo. "Do ya think that we'll ever understand women?" He looked up, smiled and wagged his tail; I think he thought I said, "Would ya like a bite of my sandwich?" Whenever I talk, he must always think I say that, because he always smiles and wags his tail the same way. MYOWN EMERGENCY ROOM VISIT: Well I can tell you one thing. Don't be going to the hospital if you want to get rest and relaxation. Just about the time I would fall asleep, some nurse would come in and shake me and say, "How ya feeling? Are you getting plenty of rest? I need some more blood. This is going to sting just a tiny bit." And proceed to play pin the tail on the donkey again. Frankly, I was tired of the game and didn't want to be the donkey anymore (although many think I am a natural for the part).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having studied how boys and girls develop differently, Michael Gurian turns his attention to adult men in this entertaining, informative, and groundbreaking book on the male brain. Following two decades of neurobiological research, What Could He Be Thinking? answers the questions women and the world are asking about husbands, fathers, boyfriends, and coworkers. Mixing neurobiology with Gurian's very readable writing style, anecdotes from everyday life, and a new vision of the male psyche, the book will satisfy the tremendous curiosity women and our culture have about the roots of male behavior. Women know intuitively that men are different from them. What women are now just coming to realize is that the men they are married to, having sex with, working with, parenting with, and trying to fathom, act and think in very male ways, not only because they are socialized to do so, but because they are built to - neurobiologically. The new field of brain science has revealed wonderful secrets about a man's mind. In this book, women who are eager to understand the men in their lives can discover the new brain science in an entertaining way, as they get answers to the prime question every woman asks at some time in her life: What could he be thinking? The book provides fascinating information about the male brain, male habits, male tendencies and the nuances of men's' actions and thoughts. It is a provocative, exciting vision into the minds of men.

Download or read book Honey and Salt written by Carl Sandburg and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This book was released on 2015-02-10 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection from the Pulitzer Prize–winning American poet with “a sharp lively wit and a tender approach to the human condition” (The Philadelphia Inquirer). Though he was also renowned as a biographer of Abraham Lincoln, Carl Sandburg was first and foremost a poet—upon his death, President Lyndon B. Johnson said “Carl Sandburg was more than the voice of America, more than the poet of its strength and genius. He was America.” In this outstanding collection of seventy-seven poems, Sandburg eloquently celebrates the themes that engaged him as a poet for more than half a century of writing—life, love, and death. Strongly lyrical, these intensely honest poems testify to human courage, frailty, and tenderness and to the enduring wonders of nature. “A poetic genius whose creative power has in no way lessened with the passing years.” —Chicago Tribune
