Book Cardiac Arrhythmias and Device Therapy Results and Prospectives for the New Century

Download or read book Cardiac Arrhythmias and Device Therapy Results and Prospectives for the New Century written by I. Eli Ovsyshcher, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 2000-06-15 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The final decades of this century have been a period of expansive growth for the electrophysiological management of cardiac arrhythmias. Subsequently, the rapid and widespread clinical application of so many technological advances has made the exchange of ideas in this field an urgent necessity. Cardiac Arrhythmias and Device Therapy: Results and Perspectives for the New Century addresses the issue by gathering current, relevant information in a clear, user-friendly format. This book covers a broad spectrum of subjects, including basic electrophysiology (impulse propagation, subthreshold stimulation, genetics and the molecular base of arrhythmias), invasive and noninvasive clinical electrophysiology, and the clinical aspects of cardiac pacing and defibrillation. It provides a comprehensive review of various methods of treatment of atrial fibrillation, and of the role of pacing in prevention of atrial fibrillation and in treatment of congestive heart failure, dilated, hypertrophic, and restrictive cardiomyopathies. The results of recent clinical trials in cardiac pacing and in the prevention and treatment of malignant venticular arrhythmias are also presented. Special sections have been dedicated to the various aspects of preventing sudden death, including the use of internal and external defibrillation. Finally, the book offers a current review of "hot" topics, with personal experiences and critical evaluations by the world-renowned authors. This book will be of interest to all cardiologists, EP technicians, and health care personnel involved in the diagnosis and management of arrhythmias, who wish to gain a complete perspective on modern pacing and electrophysiology.

Download or read book The Breathless Heart written by Michele Emdin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically focuses on central sleep apneas, analyzing their relationship especially with heart failure and discussing recent research results and emerging treatment strategies based on feedback modulation. The opening chapters present historical background information on Cheyne-Stokes respiration (CSR), clarify terminology, and explain the mechanics and chemistry of respiration. Following a description of the physiology of respiration, the pathophysiology underlying central apneas in different disorders and particularly in heart failure is discussed. The similarities and differences of obstructive and central apneas are then considered. The book looks beyond the concept of sleep apnea to daytime CSR and periodic breathing during effort and contrasts the opposing views of CSR as a compensatory phenomenon or as detrimental to the failing heart. The diagnostic tools currently in use for the detection of CSR are thoroughly reviewed, with guidance on interpretation of findings. The book concludes by describing the various forms of treatment that are available for CSR and by explaining how to select patients for treatment.

Book Device Therapy in Heart Failure

Download or read book Device Therapy in Heart Failure written by William H. Maisel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heart failure affects over 5 million patients in the United States alone, and is a chronic and debilitating disease. In Device Therapy in Heart Failure, William H. Maisel and a panel of authorities on the use and implementation of device based therapies provide a comprehensive overview of the current and developing technologies that are used to treat heart failure. Individual chapters provide an in-depth analysis of devices such as CRT’s and ICD’s, while broader topics such as the pathophysiology of heart failure and its current medical therapies are also discussed. Book Cardiac Pacing and Monitoring

Download or read book Cardiac Pacing and Monitoring written by Mart Min and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Different artificial tools, such as heart-pacing devices, wearable and implantable monitors, engineered heart valves and stents, and many other cardiac devices, are in use in medical practice. Recent developments in the methods of cardiac pacing along with appropriate selection of equipment are the purpose of this book. Implantable heart rate management devices and wearable cardiac monitors are discussed. Indications for using specific types of cardiac pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy devices, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) are of interest and their contraindications are considered. Special attention is paid to using leadless devices. The subcutaneous ICD obviates the need for transvenous leads and leadless pacemakers are entirely implantable into the right ventricle. Finally, applications of user-friendly wearable devices for the detection of atrial arrhythmia are debated.

Download or read book Arrhythmias in Heart Failure written by William G. Stevenson, M.D. and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 2002-05-14 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prevalence of heart failure is increasing, in part due to the aging population and longer survival of patients with heart disease. As heart failure management has progressed, so has the understanding of the role of arrhythmias in heart failure, and of the impact of therapies to treat them. For many clinical scenarios, a rational arrhythmia management strategy has emerged. Equally important to these strategies is the growing recognition of certain treatments that, although seemingly effective at one point in time, are now recognized as having greater potential for harm. This monograph provides the clinician with current fundamentals of arrhythmias in heart failure as they relate to a variety of clinical scenarios. Although a simple strategy for decision making cannot always be derived, clinicians will find the information useful for assessing and managing arrhythmias and arrhythmia risk in their patients with heart failure.
