Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This antiquarian book contains Alexandre Dumas's 1846 novel, "Captain Paul". A romantic romp of brave heroes, devious villains, desperate battles, and true love, this epic tale of high adventure and daring-do is highly recommended for fans of Dumas's work, and would make for a fantastic addition to any bookshelf. The novel is loosely based on the exploits of John Paul Jones, a captain in the American Navy during the revolutionary war. Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870) was a famous French writer. He is best remembered for his exciting romantic sagas, including "The Three Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Cristo". Despite making a great deal of money from his writing, Dumas was almost perpetually penniless thanks to his veritably extravagant lifestyle. His novels have been translated into nearly a hundred different languages, and have inspired over 200 motion pictures. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing this antiquarian book in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

Book Captain Paul and the Three Wise Men

Download or read book Captain Paul and the Three Wise Men written by Sir Grinsalot and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-09-24 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At risk of losing their lives in a storm at sea, a layed-back piece of seaweed and an adventurous young flying fish become good friends. While in peril, they learn the secrets found in the sun, moon, planets and stars. Can this have anything to do with the Three Wise Men seen in displays during the Winter Holidays? Meantime based on a true story, a very well-known actor recently played the role of a Sea Captain. The importance of a ships Master became quite clear in that movie. Pirates know that the merchant cargo ships do not carry guns and weapons, so they were able to gain control of the huge ship. The giant ship that Capt. Paul masters is also a target of pirates. So what does this have to do with the Three Wise Men? Where the three Wise Men pirates? What do Capt. Paul and the Three Wise Men have in common? Just like a ships Master, the Three Wise Men knew how to employ the sun, moon, planets and stars to forcast conditions and recognize coming events. Astrologers believe that the sun, moon, planets and stars determine peoples actions, peoples personality and even the course of history. Does this mean Capt. Paul practiced astrology? Were the Three Wise Men astrologers? Why is it possible to accurately forecast conditions and recognize coming events using the sun, moon, planets and the stars? Not everyone agrees on why or how it is possible. Captain Paul explains the orderly design in the heavenly objects. It allowed the Three Wise Men to find the first Christmas. That same orderly design allowed ancient mariners to navigate to far away lands. The same principals allow modern GPS systems to tell drivers how to get to where they are going. Buildings and ships are created in an orderly design by engineers. Who designed the orderly system that allowed the ancient mariners to navigate, and astrologers to interpret the Zodiak? Two new friends discover that whatever created that orderly system, is the same Creator who makes sure there is air to breath and food to eat. They learn that relying on the creation rather than the Creator can result in devastation. The seaweed and flying fish want to tell others that they learned how created things can perish, but the Creator can always provide the things we need. Read and find out if they ever get that chance?

Book Noisy River the Saga of Captain Paul Dowlin

Download or read book Noisy River the Saga of Captain Paul Dowlin written by Kenneth E. Dowlin and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ruidoso, Spanish for noisy river, is the name given to the burbling stream tumbling out of the White Mountains in New Mexico. These mountains and much of the plains to the east were inhabited by natives known as the Mescalero who have tribal ties to the Apache. It was alongside this busy stream that Paul Dowlin, an ancestor of Irish immigrants who migrated to the United States even before the Revolutionary war, found his destiny. He was born and lived in eastern Pennsylvania for over 30 years. His yearning for adventure and advancement led him to make his way across the country in 1859. Soon after his arrival in New Mexico Territory he joined the newly formed New Mexico Volunteers to resist the invasion by the Confederate forces and supporters. The fighting in the Civil War in New Mexico was brief; but the battles against the native tribes took much longer. Dowlin served directly under the command of Kit Carson, the commander of the New Mexico Volunteer Army in the Civil War battles and the major campaigns against the Mescalero, Navajo and other tribes. After separation from the army Dowlin was able to acquire land and build a thriving settlement in what became Lincoln County, New Mexico. At one time he was one of the largest tax payers in the county and one of the political leaders of the county and the state. He was always cordial to all people including the Mescalero, the Mexican descendants in the area, and the late coming Americans. The question is: Why was he shot and killed in 1877? He was unarmed and knew his killer. Ken Dowlin, a descendent of Captain Paul Dowlin has woven facts derived from 4 years of research in libraries, museums, archives, and site visits into family stories that were passed down from generation to generation. His education, career, and lifelong learning has provided him with the necessary skills to produce a historical novel based on facts and family stories.

Book excerpt: “An indispensable guide for anyone who wants to live to age 100—by making sure there’s a livable world when you get there.” —Dan Buettner, New York Times–bestselling author of The Blue Zones Do you consider yourself an environmental ally? Maybe you recycle your household goods, ride a bike, and avoid too much air travel. But did you know that the primary driver of climate change isn’t plastics, or cars, or airplanes? Did you know that it’s actually our industrialized food system? In this fascinating new book, authors Nil Zacharias and Gene Stone share new research, intriguing infographics, and compelling arguments that support what scientists across the world are beginning to affirm and uphold: By making even minimal dietary changes, anyone can have a positive, lasting impact on our planet. If you love the planet, the only way to save it is by switching out meat for plant-based meals, one bite at a time. “This fascinating, easy-to-read book will give you still another reason to eat plants and not animals: you will be doing a world of good—literally!” —Rip Esselstyn, #1 New York Times–bestselling author of Plant-Strong “Eating plants is not just good for your own health, it’s imperative for the health of the planet. This well-argued, well-written book makes it clear why everyone should consider a plant-based diet today.” —Michael Greger, MD, New York Times–bestselling author of How Not to Die “Possibly the single most important environmental book I’ve read in years. A must for everyone.” —Kathy Freston, New York Times–bestselling author of The Lean

Book Chasing Captain America

Download or read book Chasing Captain America written by E. Paul Zehr and published by ECW Press. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Could we create a real-life superhero by changing human biology itself? The form and function of the human body, once entirely delimited by nature, are now fluid concepts thanks to recent advances in biomedical science and engineering. Professor, author, and comic book enthusiast E. Paul Zehr uses Marvel’s Captain America — an ordinary man turned into an extraordinary hero, thanks to a military science experiment — as an entry-point to this brave new world of science, no longer limited to the realm of fiction. With our ever-expanding scientific and technological prowess, human biological adaptability is now in our fallible human hands. Thanks to the convergence of biology, engineering, and technology, we can now alter our abilities through surgery, pharmaceutical enhancement, technological fusion, and genetic engineering. Written in an accessible manner, Chasing Captain America explores these areas and more, asking what the real limits of being human are, how far we should bend those limits, and how we may be forced to reshape human biology if we are to colonize planets like Mars.
