Book Equilibrium Capillary Surfaces

Download or read book Equilibrium Capillary Surfaces written by Robert Finn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capillarity phenomena are all about us; anyone who has seen a drop of dew on a plant leaf or the spray from a waterfall has observed them. Apart from their frequently remarked poetic qualities, phenomena of this sort are so familiar as to escape special notice. In this sense the rise of liquid in a narrow tube is a more dramatic event that demands and at first defied explanation; recorded observations of this and similar occur rences can be traced back to times of antiquity, and for lack of expla nation came to be described by words deriving from the Latin word "capillus", meaning hair. It was not until the eighteenth century that an awareness developed that these and many other phenomena are all manifestations of some thing that happens whenever two different materials are situated adjacent to each other and do not mix. If one (at least) of the materials is a fluid, which forms with another fluid (or gas) a free surface interface, then the interface will be referred to as a capillary surface.

Book Lubricant transport towards tribocontact in capillary surface structures

Download or read book Lubricant transport towards tribocontact in capillary surface structures written by Klima, Joachim and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To counter lubricant shortage at a frictional contact (starvation), lubrication liquids, e.g. oils, are actively transported from a distant location towards the undersupplied tribocontact. This is done via small channels or generally via structures cut into a flat surface. In this way one can use capillary force as a cheap and reliable driver of the lubricant flow. Numerical modeling and experiments show that this method can be considered a promising new option to enhance tribocontact operation.

Illustrating the major technical maneuvers for common operations and applications, Capillary Electrophoresis Technology outlines the theoretical concepts and mathematical expressions of capillary electrophoresis; describes advances in instrumentation hardware and detection systems. It explains the advantages and limitations of the different variants of capillary electrophoresis; and provides extra coverage of areas in which capillary electrophoresis has grown increasingly popular, including the identification and characterization of small molecules and macromolecules. Written by experts in the field, this book is aimed at analytical and clinical chemists and biochemists, chemical engineers, biologists, pharmacists, biotechnologists and students in these disciplines.

Book Physical Methods of Chemistry Investigations of Surfaces and Interfaces

Download or read book Physical Methods of Chemistry Investigations of Surfaces and Interfaces written by Bryant W. Rossiter and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1993-01-12 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each volume of this series heralds profound changes in both the perception and practice of chemistry. This edition presents the state of the art of all important methods of instrumental chemical analysis, measurement and control. Contributions offer introductions together with sufficient detail to give a clear understanding of basic theory and apparatus involved and an appreciation of the value, potential and limitations of the respective techniques. The emphasis of the subjects treated is on method rather than results, thus aiding the investigator in applying the techniques successfully in the laboratory.

Book Capillary Electrophoresis

Download or read book Capillary Electrophoresis written by S.F.Y. Li and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-07-31 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) has had a very significant impact on the field of analytical chemistry in recent years as the technique is capable of very high resolution separations, requiring only small amounts of samples and reagents. Furthermore, it can be readily adapted to automatic sample handling and real time data processing. Many new methodologies based on CE have been reported. Rapid, reproducible separations of extremely small amounts of chemicals and biochemicals, including peptides, proteins, nucleotides, DNA, enantiomers, carbohydrates, vitamins, inorganic ions, pharmaceuticals and environmental pollutants have been demonstrated. A wide range of applications have been developed in greatly diverse fields, such as chemical, biotechnological, environmental and pharmaceutical analysis. This book covers all aspects of CE, from the principles and technical aspects to the most important applications. It is intended to meet the growing need for a thorough and balanced treatment of CE. The book will serve as a comprehensive reference work. Both the experienced analyst and the newcomer will find the text useful.

Book Analysis of Nucleic Acids by Capillary Electrophoresis

Download or read book Analysis of Nucleic Acids by Capillary Electrophoresis written by Christoph Heller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book on capillary electrophoresis is unique in its focus on the separation of nucleic acids. The importance of electrophoretic separation in every molecular biology laboratory justifies this specialization, which is also reflected in the development of instrumentation. This book is aimed to help to implement this rather new and promising technology in the biological laboratories and to help to overcome typical problems that can occur when starting with a new technique. It should also trigger further development in the field. It covers the theoretical background as well as practical examples of usual applications. The authors are all experts in their field, having many years of experience with capillary electrophoresis and their application to nucleic acids.

Book Surface Tension in Microsystems

Download or read book Surface Tension in Microsystems written by Pierre Lambert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes how surface tension effects can be used by engineers to provide mechanical functions in miniaturized products (1 mm). Even if precursors of this field such as Jurin or Laplace already date back to the 18th century, describing surface tension effects from a mechanical perspective is very recent.brThe originality of this book is to consider the effects of capillary bridges on solids, including forces and torques exerted both statically and dynamically by the liquid along the 6 degrees-of-freedom.brIt provides a comprehensive approach to various applications, such as capillary adhesion (axial force), centering force in packaging and micro-assembly (lateral force) and recent developments such as a capillary motor (torque).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capillary electrophoresis (CE) has become an established method with widespread recognition as an analytical technique of choice in numerous analytical laboratories, including industrial and academic sectors. Pharmaceutical and biochemical research and quality control are the most important CE applications. This book provides a comparative assessment of related techniques on mode selection, method development, detection, and quantitative analysis and estimation of pharmacokinetic parameters and broadens the understanding of modern CE applications, developments, and prospects. It introduces the fundamentals of CE and clearly outlines the procedures used to mitigate several barriers, such as detection limits, signal detection, changing capillary environment, resolution separation of analytes, and hyphenation of mass spectrometry with CE, for a range of analytical problems. Each chapter outlines a specific electrophoretic variant with detailed instructions and some standard operating procedures. In this respect, the book meets its desired goal of rendering assistance to lovers of electrophoresis.
