Book Cancer Prevention The Causes and Prevention of Cancer Volume 1

Download or read book Cancer Prevention The Causes and Prevention of Cancer Volume 1 written by Graham A. Colditz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Cancer Prevention book series aims to complement the research reported in the journal Cancer Causes and Control. Volumes in this series will summarize the state of the science from causes to prevention of cancer. The scope will be international. The past 20 years has seen an explosion of epidemiologic material on the causes of cancer. Examples include the growing number of studies of physical activity and colon cancer which have emerged and the numerous studies of components of diet such as alcohol and the risk of specific cancers. Major shifts in resource allocation now focus on translation of this new knowledge to actual cancer prevention programs. Researchers, practicing clinicians, and those who write and implement public health policy need this information summarized in an easily accessible format. The abundance of knowledge, increasing understanding of how to communicate risk of cancer to the public, and greater public awareness of cancer, make the coming years ones in which we will see many new attempts at widespread cancer prevention programs. For example, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launched a national colon cancer awareness campaign in early 1999.

Book The Cancer Prevention Book

Download or read book The Cancer Prevention Book written by Rosy Daniel and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2001 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Rosy Daniel, former medical director of the Bristol Cancer Help Centre, has written a comprehensive book on the holistic approach to the prevention of cancer, which is factual, upbeat and completely practical. She describes exactly what cancer is, who is at risk and why prevention and not treatment is the only real solution to the war on cancer. She then guides the reader step by step through removing the risk factors from their lives and she goes on to describe how to work to achieve positive health through the eradication of stress and the use of energy medicines, healthy eating, self-help approaches and exercise, and stresses the crucial importance of the state of mind and spirit on the body. Dr Daniel asserts that it is vital that all those wishing to prevent cancer learn from the examples of those who have had it, and act now to get their lives fully back on track, in order to revive their defence mechanisms and prevent this awful disease. By taking a hard look at the causes of cancer one is left in no doubt whatsoever as to why and how cancer has reached such horrendous epidemic proportions, affecting four in ten of us in our lifetime. This is a highly positive book which will provoke a great deal of thought and highly constructive action in all who read it.

Download or read book Prevention of Skin Cancer written by David Hill and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our series Cancer Prevention - Cancer Control continues to address the causes and prevention of cancer. In this volume, Hill, Elwood, and English bring together a rich resource summarizing the state of science underpinning the primary prevention of skin cancer. While skin cancer causes an increasing burden, particularly in populations of European origin, our understanding of the role of sun exposure together with the genetic components of skin cancer continues to grow. Given the emphasis on evidence-based medicine and public health prevention efforts, it is noteworthy that, although we can all access the same evidence base, countries around the world have had remarkably different responses to the application of this knowledge to prevent skin cancer. The outstanding contribution of the Australian public health community to the scientific understanding of skin cancer etiology and the translation of this knowledge into national prevention efforts uniquely positions the editors to compile this volume focused on the primary prevention of skin cancer. In so doing they draw on an international team of authors to present a “state of the science” summary of skin cancer prevention and to identify those areas where uncertainty remains. To achieve successful prevention of cancer we must translate our scientific knowledge base into effective prevention programs. This book offers the reader keen insights into the depth of our understanding of etiologic pathways for skin cancer. This etiologic science base is complemented by rigorous prevention science placing emphasis on the social context for effective and sustained prevention efforts.

Book Cancer as a Metabolic Disease

Download or read book Cancer as a Metabolic Disease written by Thomas Seyfried and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-18 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses controversies related to the origins of cancer and provides solutions to cancer management and prevention. It expands upon Otto Warburg's well-known theory that all cancer is a disease of energy metabolism. However, Warburg did not link his theory to the "hallmarks of cancer" and thus his theory was discredited. This book aims to provide evidence, through case studies, that cancer is primarily a metabolic disease requring metabolic solutions for its management and prevention. Support for this position is derived from critical assessment of current cancer theories. Brain cancer case studies are presented as a proof of principle for metabolic solutions to disease management, but similarities are drawn to other types of cancer, including breast and colon, due to the same cellular mutations that they demonstrate.

Book Cervical Cancer From Etiology to Prevention

Download or read book Cervical Cancer From Etiology to Prevention written by Thomas E. Rohan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-01-31 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last few years have seen enormous progress in terms of our understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of cervical cancer (particularly with respect to the role of human papillomaviruses), and this has opened up new avenues for prevention. Additionally, there have been further refinements of existing technologies for cervical cancer control. To read about the state of the art on cervical cancer, health professionals have to locate individual articles and reviews of specific topics. In recognition of this, we propose to produce a book that will bring together in one place reviews of the contribution of descriptive and analytical epidemiological research to our understanding of cervical cancer etiology, as well as research on the application of that knowledge (plus knowledge gained from basic science investigations) to prevention through screening, chemoprevention, and vaccine development. The proposed book will include authoritative reviews by scientists working on the disciplines that are pertinent to the topic of the epidemiology and prevention of cervical cancer.
