Book The Potential Supply of Crude Oil and Natural Gas Reserves in the Alberta Basin

Download or read book The Potential Supply of Crude Oil and Natural Gas Reserves in the Alberta Basin written by Russell S. Uhler and published by Economic Council of Canada : Canadian Government Pub. Centre, Supply and Services Canada. This book was released on 1986 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, the potential supply of primary conventional lightand medium oil and natural gas reserves is examined from adifferent perspective. Interest focuses on the remainingpotential in those geological formations in which oil and gashave already been discovered and for which there exists a pasthistory of drilling results. Moreover, the supply of reserves isbelieved to depend upon the economic conditions that are faced by the industry, and thus a primary objective of the study is todetermine how the supply of reserves responds to changes in theseeconomic conditions.

Book The Energy Squeeze

Download or read book The Energy Squeeze written by Bruce Willson and published by James Lorimer & Company. This book was released on 1980-01-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When this book was published in 1980, the Energy Crisis of the 1970s continued to cast a long shadow across Canadian society. Its bleak analysis of the energy future shows just how deep that shadow was--and is. Wilson's tough, uncompromising study remains important reading for anyone who wants to understand what's at stake in the politics of energy and what needs to be done by government and industry to ensure that the economy of the future will continue to run when non-renewable sources of energy run out. The Energy Squeeze combines detailed analysis of Canada's energy future with prescriptions for action--nationalized supply and pricing, for example--that reflect the crisis atmosphere of the early 1980s.

Download or read book Reserves of Hydrocarbons in Alberta written by James N. Tanner and published by Calgary, Alta. : Canadian Energy Research Institute. This book was released on 1986 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed as a handbook for those engaged in the use and analysis ofpetroleum and natural gas reserves data. A discussion of the mechanics ofreserves estimation and the techniques and definitions underlying the assessment of hydrocarbon reserves is included. The study focuses onAlberta's hydrocarbon reserves estimates generated by the Alberta EnergyResources Conservation Board and the Canadian Petroleum Association sincethe beginning of hydrocarbon exploration in the province. Historical differences between the two estimate series are identified and discussed, with explanations for the differences provided where possible, although noattempt is made to assess the relative accuracy or quality of the series.

Book North American Oil Sands

Download or read book North American Oil Sands written by Marc Humphries and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to future reliable oil supplies, Canada¿s oil sands will likely account for a greater share of U.S. oil imports. In 2008 oil sands accounted for 46% of Canada¿s total oil production and oil sands production is increasing as conventional oil production declines. Since 2004, when a substantial portion of Canada¿s oil sands were deemed economic, Canada has ranked second behind Saudi Arabia in oil reserves. As oil sands production in Canada is predicted to increase to 2.8 million barrels per day by 2015, environ. issues are a cause for concern. Contents of this report: (1) Intro.; (2) World Oil Sands Reserves and Resources: What Are Oil Sands?; U.S. and Canada Oil Sand Resources; (3) History of Development. Charts and tables.

Book Environmental Review of Onshore Canadian Oil and Gas Drilling and Production Activities

Download or read book Environmental Review of Onshore Canadian Oil and Gas Drilling and Production Activities written by Canada. Environmental Protection Programs Directorate and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current and proposed Canadian onshore oil and gas drilling and production activities are reviewed with respect to their potential for environmental effects. Canadian petroleum geology and related hydrogeology are described to provide a framework for discussion of the impact of oil and gas drilling and recovery operations, including tar sands development, and waste disposal practices. Environmental legislation applicable to oil and gas industry activities is also reviewed. Major environmental concerns identified include the potential for soil and groundwater contamination by drilling fluids, solid wastes, chemical additives, oils and brines, produced sands, and liquid wastes. The potential for contamination depends on handling and disposal practices and the geologic and hydrogeologic characteristics of the drilling and production site. Although fairly comprehensive legislation is in place, its effectiveness in the long-term has not been assessed, and no specific legislation exists for in situ tar sands development. Areas where knowledge is lacking and research is required have been identified.
