Download or read book End of Its Rope written by Brandon L. Garrett and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It isn’t enough to celebrate the death penalty’s demise. We must learn from it. When Henry McCollum was condemned to death in 1984 in rural North Carolina, death sentences were commonplace. In 2014, DNA tests set McCollum free. By then, death sentences were as rare as lethal lightning strikes. To most observers this national trend came as a surprise. What changed? Brandon Garrett hand-collected and analyzed national data, looking for causes and implications of this turnaround. End of Its Rope explains what he found, and why the story of who killed the death penalty, and how, can be the catalyst for criminal justice reform. No single factor put the death penalty on the road to extinction, Garrett concludes. Death row exonerations fostered rising awareness of errors in death penalty cases, at the same time that a decline in murder rates eroded law-and-order arguments. Defense lawyers radically improved how they litigate death cases when given adequate resources. More troubling, many states replaced the death penalty with what amounts to a virtual death sentence—life without possibility of parole. Today, the death penalty hangs on in a few scattered counties where prosecutors cling to entrenched habits and patterns of racial bias. The failed death penalty experiment teaches us how inept lawyering, overzealous prosecution, race discrimination, wrongful convictions, and excessive punishments undermine the pursuit of justice. Garrett makes a strong closing case for what a future criminal justice system might look like if these injustices were remedied.

Uh huh, “I thought I was in control, had the power in my hands, indubitably”! Hah! My reckoning was beckoning. Have a glance over “A Silly Saga” on page 31. For those that have heard of an old adage about shedding tears internally, perhaps “A Glimpse into...Her Tears” on page 50 will provide insight into a different perspective. If you are of the opinion that accomplishments are only measured by greatness, think again because “Surging...ever forward, Reaching...for the sky”, maybe “It’s the Little Things” on page 95 will provide a twitch to your thinking. In a quandary as to “where you may fit “in the general scheme of things scan over “Reined in mental rambling (10) on page 161. News flash! You are richer than you know! Turn to “Richer than Midas” on page 224 for a little insight to my thinking. Hey, lighten up and brighten up; “Yeah go ahead be bold! You know you want to...and I know you can! Let the you lying within”, oops I nearly neglected to tell you “The Ebullience and Essence of You” on page 263 is waiting to be read.

Book You ve Lost Your Mind Now Find Your Soul

This book was released on 2019-07-19 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wasn’t always Dr. Sandy. I once was a lost little girl seeking for anyone to love and care about me. I didn’t feel human and felt like I was from another planet. I just didn’t belong. I went through this cycle for many years until I discovered that I was Soul. This discovery led me to get my graduate and then doctoral degrees. It led me down a path I had been taught in childhood, but had forgotten. That was the path of medicine woman and shaman, and then I became an esoteric-metaphysical minister. You see, in order to find your soul you really do have to lose your mind. I did and I questioned everything. What is God? Who are humans really? What are we supposed to be doing here? I found that as humans we are becoming plagued in a stagnant pattern of pain, illness and suffering everywhere in the world. This is not how it is meant to be. I found that living through our Soul-Self allows us to see the world more clearly and accurately and can remove the patterns of suffering and struggle. The world is changing and many people have forgotten how to be fully human, however many are awakening, knowing, sensing and feeling there is something more. If you are one of those people open these pages and discover how to raise your consciousness and heighten your awareness. Discover how we should be fully aware of the ego-mind that will lead us to believe we are either greater than great or just no good. Even when we are neither we believe it anyway. That is the power of ego. What you will discover is how to pay much more attention to your soul-consciousness, by getting out of our heads and begin living from the place of soul. We’ve forgotten who we are. Being fully human requires reigning in the ego and becoming the Divine Beings we truly are. Soul is Divine after all.
