J. Simpson, Claus von Bülow, Mia Farrow, Jeffrey MacDonald, Patty Hearst, Mike Tyson, and countless others. In Taking the Stand, Dershowitz describes his evolution as a lawyer—from a C-minus student in Yeshiva High School to the youngest full professor in the history of Harvard Law School. In his #1 New York Times bestselling book Chutzpah, Alan described his Jewish life. In Taking the Stand, he looks at the people and events that have helped to shape his ideas about the law. He describes his formative years as a clerk for the United States Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. In the course of his career, he confronts the challenges of First Amendment law, the ongoing tension between individual freedom and national security, the questionable science often employed to prosecute accused murderers, the evolution of civil rights—and why the abortion rights debate in society hasn’t moved forward since Roe v. Wade. Filled with unforgettable cases and inside legal “baseball,” Taking the Stand is a deeply personal account of one of the legendary legal minds of our time.

Download or read book Understanding Iran s National Security Doctrine written by Manshour Varasteh and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2013-06-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new academic and analytical book tackles the strategy of Iran’s security since the new millennium, when their national security policy was reviewed to secure Iran’s position. This was implemented by the newly elected President Mohammad Khatami and modified during the presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The importance of the period from Khatami to Ahmadinejad is that the clerical establishment of the Iranian regime, in order to maintain stability of the system, chose two strategic doctrines: firstly, they supported Khatami’s ‘Policy of Appeasement’ – Detente – towards the West and tried to conduct reform within the system. Secondly, hard-line conservative Ahmadinejad was brought to power based on the ‘Policy of Confrontation’ and advocated conservative ideology, which resulted in more clashes with Western governments. This book explains the doctrine of Iran’s national security in the 21st century, examining the factors related to the formulation of their national security strategy. It aims to provide a clear understanding of the nature of the clerical system’s goals, their behavior patterns in a domestic environment, and the international community. This can only be made by taking into account their particular aim and the circumstances that prevailed when decisions were made and policies were formed. There are many books written on Iran which analyses the different aspects of the mullah’s regime, but there are currently no books that focus on its national security doctrine. Manshour Varasteh has written Understanding Iran’s National Security Doctrine to give a better understanding of the clerical regime’s ambitious politics. On this basis, it is hoped this book will shed some light on the politics of Iran. It will appeal to those interested in Iran’s politics.

Book excerpt: "The mess hall was 60×30 meters; it had a stage, from which 12 ropes hung and underneath each rope there was a chair. The groups of prisoners they brought in would rush to jump on the chair; they had very high moral. They would shout, "Hail to the MEK!, before they were executed... What if there was a story that had never been told, a story that spanned almost five decades, a story that involved the great conflict between the superpowers, a story that would enchant the reader with great drama, pain, suffering, and resilience, and was literally a story that could change the world? And what if it was all completely true? The People's Mujahadeen of Iran, or Mujuhadeen e Khalk, (PMOI/MEK) are the least understood resistance force in the world, they are also the most-maligned, due to overt campaigns against them by Iran's Mullahs and even the West. Almost no one knows their true story. This is a tale of resistance against the Shah during the 1970s, to betrayal by the American government in the last decade. The story involves the Reagan administration to the Biden White House, who is Hell-bent on giving Iran nuclear weapons. It is a narrative of shocking abuse, mass murder, and a refusal to yield to evil, no matter the cost. It is a story that will open the eyes of the reader and could literally change the world with regime change in Iran in the recognizable future. The book is full of emotion, drama, and first-person accounts of the horror of torture and execution. It is also a narrative of the amazing determination these people have shown as they have persevered through decades of defamation by the West, and persecution by the Mullahs. The story tells of a movement to bring tolerant Islam to the world, run by a woman...the horror! We will tell the 40 year story of the PMOI/MEK in this timely, shocking, heartbreaking description of the brave group of people determined to bring freedom to Iran, where over 120,000 have been executed by the regime.
