No doubt there was great rejoicing in M. Desmoulins' small whitewashed house in the Rue Grand Pont. It is only once in a lifetime that a father can celebrate the birth of his eldest son. The following day, March 3rd, the little boy was baptised in the Church of St. Pierre and St. Paul, and received the names of Lucie-Simplice-Camille-Benoist. Years later, in writing to his father, he was to say with Republican enthusiasm: "Did you guess that I should be a Roman, when you christened me Lucius, Sulpicius, Camillus?" The little white house with the slated roof stands, or, at least, stood quite recently, in the street "in front of the Place d'Armes."
