Based upon CAMDEX-R, CAMDEX-DS has been modified for use with intellectual disability. In order to differentiate decline due to dementia or other mental disorders from pre-existing impairment, particular emphasis has been placed on establishing change from the individual's best level of functioning. The pack is comprised of a structured informant interview, a direct assessment of the patient/participant (CAMCOG), and guidance for diagnosis and post-diagnosis intervention, providing a reliable way to identify dementia (and to differentiate it from other common disorders). It may be used in community settings by mental health professionals as part of the diagnostic process, or to formalize diagnosis in the context of research. Use of the CAMCOG provides the means for ongoing neuropsychological evaluation and informs future support and intervention strategies.

More generally, our book covers a broad scope of human-research approaches (behavioral assessment, neuroimaging, electromagnetic techniques, brain connectivity, peripheral measures), animal methodologies (genetics, epigenetics, proteomics, metabolomics, other molecular biology tools), species (all human and non-human animals, sporadic, and genetic versions), and article types (original research, review, and opinion papers). Through this wide-ranging proposal, we hope to introduce a fresh approach to the challenges and opportunities of research on neurodegeneration in South America.

At the time, Jody was working as Director of the Centre for Mindfulness, Research and Practice at Bangor University, UK. The stroke affected her psychologically and physically, and over time has impacted her neurological functioning. Mindfulness has been key to how she has sought to manage these life-changing and life-threatening events. The book describes Jody's personal experience of two strokes and a more recent diagnosis of vascular dementia, how she adapted short mindfulness practices to support herself, how she has sought to manage the impact of stroke and make meaning from it, and the impact of stroke on Jody's family, work and wider relationships. It is illustrated with Jody's own line drawings. This book is written chronologically, starting at a point just before Jody's first stroke and finishing at a point called 'The Ending and the Beginning'. There are seven sections, with four short chapters in each section and mindfulness approaches and practices woven in. Each chapter has a black ink illustration that seeks to illuminate the metaphor being explored. Jody's text is supplemented and enhanced by material contributed by Frances Vaughan, an expert in neuropsychology and a former colleague of Jody's at Bangor University. Several assumptions of the life expectancy and dementia incidence were combined in multi-state projections. Results of the future number of people with dementia in 2050 range from 2.0 to 3.3 million. Also the costs of dementia, one of the most expensive diseases, were projected.

What are the characteristics of perseverative errors and how do they relate to non-perseverative sound and word errors? The papers share a common goal, namely to understand the origin of the phenomenon 'perseveration' in healthy subjects and clients with brain damage and injury. An overarching claim throughout the papers is that perseveration reflects the client's primary language processing deficits.
