Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time of increasing concern about ethics at the top, The Serving Leader calls for leadership that is both more moral and more effective than the ruthless, bottom-line approach that has brought disgrace to once-mighty organizations. The book takes a practical "action approach" to servant leadership-a concept espoused by Ken Blanchard, Stephen Covey and many others. In this second book in The Ken Blanchard series, the authors use a compelling story based on real people to make its five principles of servant leadership accessible to a wide audience. "An amazing new kind of book that will challenge and inspire." -Harvey Mackay, author of Swim with the Sharks without Being Eaten Alive

Download or read book Dare to Serve written by Cheryl Bachelder and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2015-03-16 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A new perspective on servant leadership—challenging us to bring both courage and humility to the table—for the sake of the people and the enterprise.” —John C. Maxwell, New York Times-bestselling author In this updated edition of Dare to Serve, former Popeyes CEO Cheryl Bachelder shows that leading by serving is a rigorous and tough-minded approach that yields the best results. When she was named CEO of Popeyes in 2007, the stock price had slipped from $34 in 2002 to $13. The brand was stagnant, the team was discouraged, and the franchisees were just plain angry. Nine years later, restaurant sales were up 45 percent, restaurant profits had doubled, and the stock price was over $61. Servant leadership is sometimes derided as soft or ineffective, but this book confirms that challenging people to reach a daring destination, while treating them with dignity, creates the conditions for superior performance. The second edition of this bestselling book includes Bachelder’s post-Popeyes observations and new examples of how you can switch your leadership from self to serve. Ever engaging and inspirational, Bachelder takes you firsthand through the transformation of Popeyes and shows how anyone, at any level can become a Dare-to-Serve leader. “Extraordinary! Dare to Serve describes the kind of leadership so desperately needed in the 21st century. A powerful blend of courage and humility, Cheryl Bachelder’s engaging story offers a clear path for leaders to follow, and what makes her message so compelling is the tremendous results she’s produced. I highly recommend this book.” —Stephen M. R. Covey, New York Times-bestselling author of The Speed of Trust

  • Pages : 136 pages

Download or read book Born to Serve written by Thomas Thozi Gwanya and published by . This book was released on 2020-04-29 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book "Born to Serve: A Call to Servant Leadership" I have noted that each one of us is born to fulfil a special and unique purpose in life. Each person must find what that God's plan about one's life is. We will live in a much better world and lead a better life when we are prepared to serve one another. We are born to be leaders in our own homes, extended families, neighbourhood, communities and nation. Servant leadership does not abuse power, does not take advantage of the higher office and thus look down upon those who are being served, those who are followers or dependants. Humility is the prescribed manner of providing a service. A servant leader must be humble and be committed to serve his/ her followers. Some followers, like Peter, will not understand, and perhaps even refuse that their feet be washed by "such big people". Instead they will insist on washing you, or doing things for you. A true servant leader will reject that and insist that "I am here to serve you and not the other way round". When Peter rejected the offer of Jesus to wash his feet, then Jesus nicely explained to him; "If I do not wash you, you will not have part with me". In other words my mandate from the Father who sent me is that I must serve you. Jesus had explained to His disciples that, the manner in which my Father sent me, so do I send you. The manner of rendering the service, the manner of spreading the gospel of Christ shall not deviate from how Jesus did it himself. The one who is a servant is not greater than the one who is being served. The learner is not greater than the teacher. The one who is a servant leader must always take to heart the interests of the one who is being served. The true qualities of a servant leader show up in the manner that the servant leader carries him/ herself; the manner he/ she provides the service, the manner he/ she interacts with the ones served, the manner he/ she follows up to ensure the effectiveness of the service. There is an urgent need for a paradigm shift that those who are providing a service change from being treated or seeing themselves as "masters who must be feared, respected and honoured". The radical change must happen on both sides, the servant's attitude and expectations must change; those who are being served must accept being served by people with authority/ power. As it were they must demand and expect servant leadership. Most public representatives, officials, religious leaders or community workers often treat the recipients of their services with a condescending attitude. It is as though those who are being served must worship those who are servants. Employers themselves must lead by example and demonstrate to their employees how to be a servant leader. It is crucial that we all know what our individual mandate is, and how we are going to fulfil it. Those who are the sent ones must live up to their calling as ambassadors, and thus efficiently and effectively represent the high authority that sent them.

Book The Serving Leader

Download or read book The Serving Leader written by Ken Jennings and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2016-02-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Serving Leader Five Powerful Actions to Transform Your Team, Business, and Community, 10th Anniversary Edition, Revised and Expanded It's people who make organizations great, so how can leaders best help their people achieve that greatness? As Ken Jennings and John Stahl-Wert show in this new edition of their bestseller, you can't just demand greatness—you have to inspire it. The most effective leaders don't just stand in front of their people, they stand behind them too. As one of the characters in the book notes, “You qualify to be first by putting other people first.” This concept sounds paradoxical, but it leads to extraordinary outcomes—and The Serving Leader shows precisely how and why. While Jennings and Stahl-Wert use a compelling fictional story to outline the basics of Serving Leadership, all the characters in it are based on real people, the organizations depicted are based on real organizations—and the results they achieved are what really happened. This edition features a new foreword by Ken Blanchard, a new introduction, and a new chapter checking back in with Mike, the main character, to see what he has learned in the twelve years since he embraced Serving Leadership On one level this is the most practical guide available to implementing Serving Leadership; on a deeper level, it is a book about the personal journey of growth that real leadership requires. Great organizations are great because they're filled with people who freely choose to do their very best. It's a maddeningly simple concept yet stunningly hard to execute. Jennings and Stahl-Wert show leaders how to earn that kind of commitment.

Therefore, if we are called to be servant leaders, it means we are to be humble leaders in the service of God. The author is challenging those who have a responsibility to lead to bear in mind that God's calling is not for higher status, but for those who choose to be humble. Is being in a higher place or having higher status brings you closer to God?God's calling is not about higher status, but it is a serving responsibility. I pray for those who will be finding knowledge in this book to dig deep into the will of God and find how to serve Him.

Book Leaders Eat Last

Download or read book Leaders Eat Last written by Simon Sinek and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-01-07 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestseller by the acclaimed, bestselling author of Start With Why and Together is Better. Now with an expanded chapter and appendix on leading millennials, based on Simon Sinek's viral video "Millenials in the workplace" (150+ million views). Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled. This is not a crazy, idealized notion. Today, in many successful organizations, great leaders create environments in which people naturally work together to do remarkable things. In his work with organizations around the world, Simon Sinek noticed that some teams trust each other so deeply that they would literally put their lives on the line for each other. Other teams, no matter what incentives are offered, are doomed to infighting, fragmentation and failure. Why? The answer became clear during a conversation with a Marine Corps general. "Officers eat last," he said. Sinek watched as the most junior Marines ate first while the most senior Marines took their place at the back of the line. What's symbolic in the chow hall is deadly serious on the battlefield: Great leaders sacrifice their own comfort--even their own survival--for the good of those in their care. Too many workplaces are driven by cynicism, paranoia, and self-interest. But the best ones foster trust and cooperation because their leaders build what Sinek calls a "Circle of Safety" that separates the security inside the team from the challenges outside. Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories that range from the military to big business, from government to investment banking.

Book Start with Why

Download or read book Start with Why written by Simon Sinek and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-12-27 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inspirational bestseller that ignited a movement and asked us to find our WHY Discover the book that is captivating millions on TikTok and that served as the basis for one of the most popular TED Talks of all time—with more than 56 million views and counting. Over a decade ago, Simon Sinek started a movement that inspired millions to demand purpose at work, to ask what was the WHY of their organization. Since then, millions have been touched by the power of his ideas, and these ideas remain as relevant and timely as ever. START WITH WHY asks (and answers) the questions: why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their success over and over? People like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers had little in common, but they all started with WHY. They realized that people won't truly buy into a product, service, movement, or idea until they understand the WHY behind it. START WITH WHY shows that the leaders who have had the greatest influence in the world all think, act and communicate the same way—and it's the opposite of what everyone else does. Sinek calls this powerful idea The Golden Circle, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be led, and people can be inspired. And it all starts with WHY.
