An 1100 bp portion of the mitochondrial genome, including most of the cytochrome b gene, was sequenced for 221 individuals from 46 populations. Results indicate that the broad-scale geographic distribution of genetic diversity in the California treefrog is due in large part to the separation of populations into different major watersheds and mountain ranges.
