Section 1 examines the broad theme of how and what ITS contributes to the economy and how one makes a business case for ITS. Section 2 includes three chapters on ITS applications in mass transit. Section 3 explores ITS applications in the automobile/highway system. Section 4 considers integrative issues including how ITS is perceived and how it can be positioned to improve surface transportation. This volume will be especially useful to researchers and policy makers working in transportation, transportation engineering, and the economic analysis of transportation systems.

Download or read book European Transport Policy and Sustainable Mobility written by Jonas Akerman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2000-10-26 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now widely accepted that transport is becoming increasingly unsustainable and that strong policy intervention is required to reduce both the growth in transport demand and the environmental costs of transport. This book challenges conventional approaches to transport by moving away from trend based analysis towards the use of scenarios to identify alternative sustainable transport futures. It both summaries the development of EU transport policy and presents a critique. The policy context is widened to include the global changes taking place in economics, society and technology. It develops new methodologies for policy making for the next 25 years.

Download or read book Urban Transport XXII written by C.A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2016-07-14 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing studies from all over the world Urban Transport XXII consists of papers presented at the 22nd International Conference on Urban Transport and the Environment. The conference has been successfully held annually since it first started in Southampton in 1995. Transportation in urban areas, with its related environmental and social impacts, is a topic of significant concern for policymakers in both municipal and central government and for the urban citizens who need effective and efficient transport systems. Urban transport systems require considerable studies to devise and then safeguard their operational use, maintenance and safety. Transportation systems produce significant environmental impacts and can enhance or degrade the quality of life in urban centres. A distinctive element of the Urban Transport and the Environment series is the interaction between academic and practical perspectives where theories and ideas are debated and their practical applications rigorously tested. Clearly the issue of providing effective and efficient transport systems in the urban setting remains an acute challenge with financial, political and environmental constraints limiting the ability of transport system planners and operators to deliver the high quality outcomes expected by the public. Topics covered include: Environmental impact; Environmentally friendly transport modes; Transport strategies; Public transport systems; Transport modelling; Urban transport simulation; Transport safety and security; Infrastructure; Intermodel transport systems; Port and airport cities; Land use and transport integration; Transport policy and regulations; Experiences from emerging countries; Non-motorized transport models; Intelligent transport systems; Electromobility; Mobility and urban space; Sustainability and resilience; Emerging transport systems; Energy efficiency.
Download or read book The Economics of the Modernisation of Direct Real Estate and the National Estate a Singapore Perspective written by Kim Hin David HO and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2022-05-11 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Economics of The Modernisation of Direct Real Estate and The National Estate - A Singapore Perspective Chapter 1 takes a close look the vector auto regression (VAR) model, offering a dynamic system of solely direct real estate variables, for international direct real estate investors and policy makers, to enable their decision-making. Chapter 2 examines the association of residential price and aggregate consumption. A cross-spectra analysis is helps to so validate, because of its model-free characteristics Chapter 3 is concerned with the underlying housing market dynamics and housing price time-series variation, via the Singapore (SG) generalized dynamic factor model (GDFM). Chapter 4 is concerned with the in-depth market analysis and empirical analysis of the structural behavior of the important SG private housing sector. Chapter 5 acknowledges that an in-depth sector analysis and an empirical analysis are imperative to better understand the structural behavior of the SG office sector. Chapter 6 is concerned with the Main Upgrading Programme (MUP), a highly targeted subsidized Housing Development Board (HDB) policy, since the 1990s. Chapter 7 recognizes the ‘National Estate’, denoting SG’s built environment, due to physical planning, integrated urban design, and the direct influence of the SG government in providing physical infrastructure via government ministries, statutory boards and public authorities. Chapter 8 offers the book’s conclusion.

Download or read book The new Local Enterprise Partnerships written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Business, Innovation and Skills Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2010-12-09 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report indicates broad support for the creation of Local Enterprise Partnerships as a way of addressing local growth. In particular the potential of LEPs to offer a greater focus on local economic needs, and build on the affinity between business, local government and other partners at a local level is recognised. Whilst it is right that LEPs should compete at certain levels it is equally important for them to collaborate, particularly with the Regional Development Agencies, where it makes economic sense. Local Enterprise Partnerships are being introduced quickly and at a time of greatly constrained public funding. There is concern that in the short term LEPs will need know how and powers and in some cases financial resources to make a positive difference. Government will need to be willing to devolve power to LEPs and in certain cases be willing to support LEPs at inception. If LEPs are to be a success, the Department's transition team will need to focus in three areas: retain RDA know-how, realising the full potential of RDA assets, and leveraging potential EU funding
